Hey everybody, I own a 10 yo Waja auto 1.6. I find my car to be quite underpowered lately, early morning start would easily stall but once leave it alone for a few seconds everything is fine.

The when climbing slope, if I stop halfway up then lift my legs off the brakes, the engine vibrates as if going to stall until I press the gas pedal again.

My mechanic say probably the throttle body going to kong, but he say he'll clean it first and see how. Well, the stalling in the morning has reduced, but the slope scenario still happens now and then. So now is it confirm that I'll have to replace the TB?

Or is there other areas I should look out for to improve my engine's performance?

2000-2002 Waja normally have morning sickness which can be solved by patching the ECU firmware (update firmware), i dont think the TB will KO so easily, just perform 3bond cleaning and retune back the ECU back to the correct stepping rate and its done...

Thanks for the reply. Where can I patch / retune the firmware? at Proton SC? any mechanic you can recommend in KL or Cheras area?

How much will it cost?

Dammit, if only I knew that 6 months ago. Got stranded on the highway after the fuel pump relay died.

Man oh man did that incident cost me....

....but then if the relay died, means no power to the pump also right? then how come it didn't work also?

Got a bit of problem with my Waja again.

This evening I tried to start the car (engine still warm), there was no sound, no ignition, nothing. turn my keys back to acc and try again, it starts like normal.

Earlier a few weeks ago, I notice a few times when I start the engine there is a slight delay between turning the key and the engine starting.

It's not a big problem right now, but I would like to nip it in the bud before it becomes something serious.

if like this then waja wont be your choice... buy a vios.... when u dont understand about waja then it will be a huge problem... because if u buy a used waja, u have to prepare to spend another few k for 2 years....

buy for commute and die like the rest....hmmm Wira should be affordable and parts is cheap too...
*
Quoted for agreement.

Prepare to spend a few more thousand bucks and a few weekends at the workshop. Do your research before buying. When I bought my 2nd hand Waja I got so fed up I almost traded it in for a Saga FL. But now not much problem and I'll probably stick with it for a few more years (After spending a bomb for the "lessons".)

When it is not being temperamental, I am grateful I didn't trade it for a Saga.

To be honest, I would humbly advise you to keep your BLM instead.

Anyway, since the seller is someone you know, see if you can get any maintenance record on the car, especially what components were replaced and when they were replaced, and for what reason.

Morning~~~ wave.gif Is the engine cover useful or not? should i remove it?

According to Elton (Thundergod)...can remove. Last night he Threebond for me, just took it off and tell me to put in my trunk. Better heat dissipation I think he said.

err dunno. my milage is 370k km and light mod only. and manual of course. light mods like decat, straight flow exhaust, free flow wire mesh drop in air filter. maybe city driving will drop abit to 12-14km/l since there are a lot more idling.
*
I remember not so long ago your new exhaust gave you pretty horrifying FC. How did you rectify it?

My auto also doing around 10km/l. I keep seeing people here saying 11 or 12 km/l, gonna have to get my ride looked at soon.

Still trying to save up to reflash the ECU.

Someone mentioned about the transmission thingy earlier. I think you need to reset it. Just take off the power then the gear transmission will not up shift fast

Oh. I can get around 11-12Km/l.  15 to me is hard.
*
I hear that all the time, but I also hear that the ECU is constantly learning, so you don't have to reset it just change your driving style.

Which one is true??

QUOTE(shiyau @ Sep 27 2011, 11:16 PM)
It was me.. just reset ecu then it'd be ok?
Anyway, gonna get my gear oil changed as it's really long din change alr..
*
How long? should change every 20k wey.

For my current tank will try being super light-footed. see how much i can squeeze out from town driving laugh.gif
*
I tried that also, 70% of the time going just barely 2k rpm. In the end, didn't help much. Think it made it worse summore coz I think going too slow on straights not fuel efficient.

Unless you usually ride it 4k rpm and your definition of super "light-footed" is 3k rclxms.gif

@dares i'm going to change soon.. eneos.. good? Btw.. how many litres needed for gear oil on waja?
*
I think my mech used Eneos last time...dunno lah I never keep track of the brand until now. Last time I just go there and tell them "flush ATF", he answer "OK", then I go sit in aircon room read newspaper doh.gif

Waja 1.6 is 4 litres, IIRC.

lolx.. 4 litres inclusive of flushing the old fluid out? *wondering*

*
Yes, flushing. The mech pumped the old ATF out.

Hmm I'm sure the last time they only put in 4 bottles = 4 litres. Does that mean my gb is under-lubricated?

I'm new here and I keep hearing about Steven's super Waja (Also saw some pics on your cardomain.com page). Now I am REALLY curious. (btw, I won't say adding a computer to your car, among other things, as "just a little bit only" tongue.gif)

what is your mileage? its not recommended to do flushing on auto tranny which already cover a high mileage.
it may break the worn out seal inside. anyway, if you insisted on flushing, you will need close to 6 liter.

And that particular mitsubishi auto tranny is quite sensitive to other fluid. since sp 3 could do the job just fine,
try other brand at your own risk.
*
Eh now I confuse already lah....last time my mech say yes he's flushing the ATF but he only fill in 4 liters after pumping out the fluid. doh.gif

What would a flushing procedure look like? Next time I gotta pay attention ady.

I'm beginning to hear a rattling sound from the engine when accelerating uphill. I'm assuming it's engine pinging/knocking? if it is, how do I fix it?

I'm using RON95, if I have to change to 97 I'd rather sell the car and buy a Viva... mad.gif
