When I am flashing rom with different kernel, I have to use SUT and can't use CWM?

I am trying to flash from RC3 to CM7 or MIUI using CWM but all of them stuck at boot screen. When I tried to flash to CM7 that is using the same version of kernel as RC3, it can get pass the boot screen but when I restore my data via CWM, it has some android apps FCs. Anyone know why this happen?

Btw, if I have to use SUT to flash rom when the kernel version is different, why all of the rom from xda forum tell us to use CWM and the file provides by them are zip file?

Added on May 1, 2012, 6:31 pmOne question, will it void the warranty if we use a custom recovery instead of the stock recovery?

Added on May 1, 2012, 8:26 pmBtw, anyone who is using the new kernel v2.6.35.7 have problem with video playback? Some do say an improvement in HD game, but I don't really have those very intense graphic HD game, but when I play Temple Run, it lags more than the old kernel.

ok first things first. flashing to firmwares aka stocks that are usually .nb0 files, use SUT. To revert to ROMs on the .32.9 kernel, i would recommend flashing to .32.9 firmware aka stock CSL or wellcom first, then install cwm, root and then only flash your preferred custom ROM. Vice versa if going to .35.7, flash to the Sharp firmware (.nb0) first via SUT biggrin.gif

did you read the X6 roll up thread, with all the links linked together? it's stickied on top. xda told to flash using CWM because they assume that the kernel version is already same before flashing to a custom rom. It's a pre requisite, must be same kernel version before flashing.

I never checked video playback with .35.7 kernel, but yes I agree with you about Temple Run. even with the stock Sharp rom I already feel the lag. So I am currently back on .32.9 until there is an ICS port that requires me to flash to .35.7 first biggrin.gif

warranty is subjective, I've read on lowyat some people sent in their phones with custom rom and still got their device fixed/replaced lol!

Oh, thank you for the detailed reply.

Yea, just saw the Roll-Up thread. Btw, is there a way to only flash the kernel to another version without using .nb0 files?

Just curious, is it very much harder to compile a .nb0 file rather than a zip file?

compile? .nb0's that are RARed and ZIPed are a lot smaller than their original size, zip file on the other hand are usually custom ROMs ppl compiled together.. that's pretty much what I know..

oh. so it isnt a kernel issue? funny.. i may think of reverting to .35.7 ROMs or edowar's kernel with new kgsl drivers.. cuz that might have hope to play Fifa 12.. right now its too lag to even play lol.

download setcpu and set your screen off profile. screen off i underclock to 468 max 2XX min smartassv2 governor. default is 1.5Ghz max n 2xx min, interactive governor. that should help. most ROMs are batt eaters, for better battery try the CM7 rom.. or bumblebee, but be sure to flash to their respective stock rom first.. cuz for cm7.2, bumblebee, latest requires .6.35.7, u need to flash stock Sharp first.

flashed to CM7.2 31/12 Edowar recommended by cheezzzz. Significant battery improvement compared to rc2. left it overnight the battery dropped bout 2 or 3% only. Usually the battery will drop flat when i was with rc2.

Heat issue also inproved. it only heats up while playing games. unlike rc2 it heats up even on idle. it really seems like very stable. temple run is smooth. so far i'm very satisfied with it.

glad I could help, anyways edo's CM7.2 has low incoming volume, which I guess is same for every other rom on the .32.9 kernel, except maybe the more stock one like Maclite.

I'm kinda poisoned by MIUI's themes lol.. waiting for the ICS roms to be stable cuz on the xda forum progress is insane, elol has the codename ICS up that lacks camera. Most of them are just lacking camera and incoming call volume and wakelock sleep of death.
