My wife has been using viber with her Galaxy Tab 7+ when she is in overseas without any problems. Recently, every time she want to use viber, it ask for activation. This only happens while in overseas and this problems occurs after 1 or 2 viber updates.

How viber detects the country location in order for us to key in the correct country code? How to receive the activation code if the phone is not in roaming mode?

FYI, the galaxy tab is on digi data plan only sim card

@TSOM -
Viber uses about 0.25MB per minute of call, and usually less than 1KB per text message.

@spetnaz -
Hmm... interesting.

Receiving the confirmation code is unfortunately only possible when registering with a "real" phone number. Meaning she can use a local real phone number where she is at, use pre-paid, or even use your help to receive the SMS/phone call with the code in your home country.

But this is only a temporary workaround, let's try to find the source of the problem.

You mean the deactivation itself happens ONLY when she's abroad? If she uses Viber on that Tablet for weeks in her home country, the problem never occurs?

Is she running a Custom ROM on her device?

Yes the deactivation happens only when she's abroad. Viber works before this while she was in China & Vietnam. The problem started on her recent trip to vietnam last 2 week. A day before her trip, we did test at home and confirmed that viber is working fine.

I'm sure that i've updated the viber when prompted to do so in the android market before the trip. Could the update was the culprit?

The Galaxy Tab is still with stock rom and unrooted. FYI, my wife only know how to use the tab. All settings, activation, rooting (other phones) is done by me

Thank you for this elaborate information!

Please contact me via Private Message and specify whether or not there's an IMEI number that appears on her Galaxy Tab settings.

Here is a short guide to find the IMEI (if it exists) - http://www.technipages.com/android-find-imei-number.html

Thank you, and I await your message smile.gif

Hi @lewisliaw -

Please check the following:
1. try rebooting your phone, and test it again.
2. It could be that your WiFi router has been configured to block Viber's ports. 1. First, please try uninstalling and reinstalling Viber when connected to different WiFi networks. Does it work now?
2. Also, please make sure the following ports are enabled on your routers or firewalls:
TCP: 5242 + 4244
UDP: 5243 + 9785

(if you are not sure how to enable ports, contact your router manufacturer)

hey u should implement a way to know whether contacts are offline or online.
the biggest disadvantage i found out is that i dont know whether my contacts has viber running or they exit it.. some even uninstall it on their phone, but in my contact i still see they have viber!!

We are considering to add this feature in the future.

Meanwhile, note that you can tell indirectly if your contact is online as follows:

When you make a Viber call, you will first see "Calling". It will change to "Ringing" if your contact is online and their phone is literally ringing.
When you text, "Delivered" means the message has been received on the other side's phone (they're online). If you only see "Sent", it means it's been sent from you, but pending the other side to come online (they're offline at the moment).

In the future we might add an "Online" status message, but we still don't know when this will happen.

** Also, note that Viber automatically disables accounts that have been inactive for 45 days. If people simply uninstalled Viber, unfortunately there is no way for us to know whether they're going to reinstall right away or not, so we can't deactivate the account immediately.

hello Viber team, first of all congrats on the latest update. it has improved a lot smile.gif

However, the send location info is still buggy. When I enable it, it sent out my yesterday's location which is roughly 8km away. this is when GPS enabled. Perhaps this can be improved. maybe by adding 'refresh location details' option under 'menu' in conversation so that Viber will try to get the latest location from gps or tower details

thanks!

Hmm... we haven't encountered this report yet.
Are you sure this is "yesterday's location"?

I understand you're getting the correct location now, yes? What ultimately fixed this issue?

Please note that at this stage we don't support custom ROMs with Viber. Running Viber on a custom ROM results in various side effects (sometimes total lack of functionality), but we can't afford to support all custom ROMs out there. We are continuously working to adapt Viber to more and more ROMS, but meanwhile - you might want to contact the ROM developer for further support - they may be able to resolve this issue.

Meanwhile, may we ask what exactly is the problem you're experiencing when using Viber on Dark Knight 4?

yeap because I left the location "yesterday" and arrived to the new location on the same day. and when i used the app to get "today's" location, it sent out yesterdays's one. what fixed this was to actually load up Google Maps until it get a satellite fix. and all this was when the sky was clear though, i was outside when i used the location feature

What error exactly occurs when you try to install? Please try to elaborate, or even add a quick screenshot...

@azrash -
Please note that Viber does not work with satellite location (GPS), but rather with cellular, tower location.
However, what you're describing is still an error (unless I misunderstood it). I kindly ask you to report this issue to our support team so they could understand its source better and hopefully help you. Here's the link: http://bit.ly/ukGVJ0

Thanks in advance smile.gif

Hmm...
This might be a problem caused by the Custom ROM.

Please try to use the direct link in this page in our official HelpDesk: http://bit.ly/rqbZEw
And let me know if it works smile.gif
