Anyone knows what should I be enrolling for the first and second semester?
Should I take Physics or Chemistry OR Process System Analysis or Engineering Materials.
I kinda hate Chemistry or I just prefer Physics over it. Not sure what kinda engineering should I be applying though. Either Chemical, Electrical or Mechanical.
Lookin' forward to prompt reply. Just noticed my entourage never mentioned anything about allocating classes. DAMN. Thanks in advance.

If you're unsure of whether to pick chemical engineering or not, take PSA (process system analysis) for your 1st semester.
That subject is pretty much sum up what chemical engineering is all about. (told by my tutor)

If you're made up your mind to apply for chemical engineering, pick Chemistry (CHM1011) for 1st sem and PSA in your 2nd sem.

You can apply for EE even you took PSA and Chemistry in your 1st year, IIRC. As for Mechanical, sorry I don't know much about it.

*Between, CHM1011 is optional for chemical engineering, that's what being told by A/Prof Chan Eng Seng from last sem <- (unless they have changed it)

CHM1011 is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED because you will have to take Chemistry (CHM1022) in your 2nd year <- (continuation of CHM1011)

nope...
monash dun really stress about programming...
more to concepts and paradigm...
the programming part is more as a tool only...
for example, some assignment you can use any programming language you want just as long as you meet the requirements =p

as for assessments, it all depends on which unit u are taking...
i nvr had any 50/50 units when i was there...
mostly 60/40 and 70/30 with the exams having higher weights...
and u need to pass both ur exams n assignments else it is still a fail...

BCS have around 17-18 students this sem if i am nt mistaken...
it is quite a good number cause it is rare to get BCS students in most uni since honestly, it isn't an easy course lol...
this sem was much better than when i was taking BCS back then lol...
we had like just 10+ and quite a number of them swap to BITS after going through FIT1008 lolx

math would be hard later on...
for comp science, u are technically floating in math n logic...
everything can be explained and modeled as a set of functions/ equations...
and most of the time, our math dun have numbers in it...

programming i have answered in the pm =p

LOL, I'm the type of person who is very lazy to practice math. If I practiced my math, I could get >85% for calculus in pre-u, if I didn't, sure <60% laugh.gif

But I like logic and application, just too bad my chemistry is very bad and I didn't understand physics in pre-u otherwise I might be doing engineering now rclxub.gif

Comp science all about math? Then how about the use of software and stuffs? yawn.gif

Added on February 24, 2012, 2:04 pmOh ya guys! I have a question here...are there any possibilities where a person change his course after 1st sem he found out that he doesn't really like the course he currently persue ing?

math 1 = something like pre-u math
math 2 = more to the logical math side where u rarely see any numbers... will be the basic for u in most core comp science units later on as it would be expanded aso

programming here is different since it is use as a means to learn about concepts and paradigms...
most units allow u to code in any language u want even...
and its all bout practice for programming...
doing ur labs by urself is almsot a guarantee pass if u can do it urself =p

At least I can chill a bit for math 1, pre-u math wasn't too bad.

I used to like and be good at physics, then something happened in pre-u, maybe bad lecturer or lack of practice or what because physics was my lowest grade in pre-u (74% shakehead.gif)

Good to know comp science students are in demand. I like the variety of jobs we can do as a comp science graduate.

Hi, third year ECSE student here.

http://www.eng.monash.edu.my/engineering-a...rgraduates.html
The link above shows what you need to take for each field of engineering offered at Sunway Campus.

If you are torn between chemical, electrical and mechanical engineering, why not choose PSA for sem 1 and decide whether chemical engineering is your thing by the end of it. By taking PSA, you will most likely know whether you like chemical engineering.

By semester 2, if you decide to go into the chemical field, take CHM1011 and if you decide to go into the mechanical field, take ENG1050 Engineering Materials. There are no fixed electives for ECSE, but some may find ENG1030 Electrical system to be a little challenging.

You can still change units at the beginning of semester 2, but please do consult the person in charge of enrollment at the engineering office to double check this fact.

Hope this helps, cheers.
And oh, WELCOME TO MONASH =D

Eh bro, my timetable won't allocate my math lecture. It says auto-allocated but the orange block doesn't appear on the timetable and I can't select either of the 3 options available. Same thing for another unit, I forgot comp lab or tutorial. Getting a bit worried here.

Also, my Mondays start from 9am to 2pm straight. I will die of cold and hunger long before then sad.gif
