Hello all! I'll be starting at Monash this February under the BA (Global) course. I've been obsessively trawling the net for any info on Monash student life for the past few months. Thought I should bite the bullet and ask here

What are good, cheap food found near the campus without having to drive a car? Also, and this is a particular concern of my father's lol, are there any hazing rituals done during Orientation? I'm an older student and I really can't be arsed to attend Orientation but it's a good way to make friends I suppose so I'm conflicted.

What's the percentage of International students like on campus? Particularly for the Arts courses?

What's a good bank to use? I'll be going to Malaysia soon to open an account before I officially move there.

Is there a big fiction section in the campus library?

What are the streets like in the evening around the campus area? Is it a good idea to go jogging out of campus?

@johnconnor I've been Googling blogs on Monash student life for the past few months and trust me man, it's really hard to find one dedicated to just about Monash. You'll find a few separate entries but for that you need to narrow down your search to the specifics.

For example, I recently searched for dance clubs at Monash. Google spat out quite a bit of interesting links to blogs and Youtube videos so it helped me a lot in figuring out if I want to join this club when I get to Monash in Feb.

I've even found a particularly interesting blog by an Australian girl who went on exchange to Sunway and she provided some interesting socio-cultural commentary on student and general KL life. That's the closest thing to a blog dedicated to Monash student life I think. Unfortunately it contains only about 6 months worth of entries.

I'm leaving my country in a few hours to drive up to KL. Holy shite I'm so nervous! Hope Orientation will be good. Hope the girls in my unit at SMR are nice.

Orientation info is up on the uni website! Arts is at 10am awesome!

I'm probably going with my roommate. It's really boring without a car so any opportunity to get out of the residence is a plus.

Orientation had useful information. The refreshments were slightly better for the international student briefing than the lunch we had.

Oh don't forget there's 50% off for all frappes at Starbucks from 6-8pm up till the 29th!

I just opened my Authcate account yesterday. Today I can't access the monash portal but I can log in to the Webdrive. Anyone else experienced this?

Monopoly was really fun today, even more so cos we won :DDD hahaha. Anyone else really excited for the start of the semester next week?
