best 14 incher for games atm? below 3.5k

By right the Asus N45sf (i5-2410M + Nvidia GT555m) would be the best at RM2.8k... but then there appears to be some problems with the GPU at the moment, so its either you avoid this model, or wait for associated solutions nod.gif
Coming 2nd would be Lenovo's Y470, i7-2630QM + Nvidia GT550M@RM2999[JBL]

If you can up your budget to RM4.2k, then its the Alienware M14x nod.gif

well, it depends largely on whether you want a 14" laptop or a 15" one hmm.gif
Asus comes with 2 years international warranty though~

yeah, so far it appears to be universal, where the GPU will inevitably downclock whenever its stressed hmm.gif
Asus technicians are aware of this problem... but I dare not guarantee that it will eventually be sorted out... I've own one of this kind of laptops, and after 1 year, there's still no solution to the problem...
If you're in a hurry, go for the Y470 instead; or Asus N55sf (15") nod.gif

as a general query is i7 2630 a value for money...very less applications optimized for it...it will only increase power consumption i think

It not only about optimization... its suitable for multitasking as well nod.gif
If you do a lot of insane multitasking or uses CPU-intensive programs, then it'll be worth it

Okay, got a change of budget. I can afford bout <3k. Any new recommendations, or do dell xps 15z and asus n55sf 's lower specs models still fit the bill?
Guys, need your recommendation for a new laptop for university.

Brand : A reliable one. (good international service as i'll be going overseas for studies )

Price : Below 3k

Size : maybe 14' or 15' ?

Usage : mid level gaming, movies, surfing.

If you guys need any more info, pls ask. Not sure what other info you need to determine a suitable laptop for me. :/ Also, maybe you guys could give me a couple of choices so i could go down to lowyat plaza to have a look at the laptops. THanks in advance guys!

If money aside, which among these would you guys recommend?

HP Pavilion dv6-6114tx Entertainment Notebook PC
XPS15z 2nd generation Intel® Core™ i5-2410M
Asus N55Sf-S2043v [black], i5-2410M + Nvidia GT555m (2GB) + 1600x900@RM2799[Bang & Olufsen]; USB3.0, Sonic Master subwoofer

It depends on your usage.
Intel's B940 is better in terms of processing power compared to the E-450.
But then the integrated GPU in the E-450 (AMD HD6320) is better in terms of GPU power compared to the Intel HD3000 integrated GPU (assuming there's no dedicated GPU)..
So it depends on what you're using the laptop for...
The B940 is more towards work usages, whereas the AMD E-450 is towards gaming + cheaper price

My vote still goes to Asus N55sf because of the better screen resolution as well as the 2 years international warranty nod.gif

Preferable brand: Asus
Budget: RM2500
LCD: 14 - 15"
Others: thin and lightweight
Usage: solidworks, ansys, mid range games.

ur advices will be much appreciated. thanks

For 14"
Asus
N43SL, i5-2410M + Nvidia GT540M@RM2699[2.4kg][Bang & Olufsen] *No USB3.0
N43SL (Jay-Chou edition), i5-2410M + Nvidia GT540M (2GB)@RM2799[Bang & Olufsen], *USB3.0, Colors: Gold/Red

For 15"
N55Sf-S2043v [black], i5-2410M + Nvidia GT555m (2GB) + 1600x900@RM2799[Bang & Olufsen]; USB3.0, Sonic Master subwoofer

*14 and 15" laptops are not thin and not lightweight laugh.gif
If portability is not a problem, it'll be better to go for the N55sf due to the higher-resolution screen, quite handy when you do your work nod.gif
The extra money for the upgrade is well worth it, can consider icon_rolleyes.gif

If you're a girl, portability would probably be more important, in which the Jay Chou series would be a nice pick since its a general all rounder smile.gif
Otherwise, the i5 powered Asus N55Sf (15") will be a great choice as well
