I plan to use it for birding and also motorsport,

1 stop down, meaning f/2.8 --> f/5.6 after TC. Then 1 more stop down? The next q would be, how much did you paid for it? Wanna know what's street price like.
*
birding -> digiscoping biggrin.gif

1 stop, meaning after 2.0x tc becomes f/5.6 and then 1 stop to f/8.
i got mine used for rm1.3k still with lots of warranty, the ori receipt says rm1630.

Aiks... Sudah naik harga?
On fast tele lenses, it's bearable. But if you use the AF-S 300m f/4 which is already known to have a slow AF-S motor, the slowdown is more evident.
400mm maybe fine for motorsport. But not for birding? Please define.  biggrin.gif Feathered or non feathered kind?

For feathered type, Malaysian birds are usually very tiny and very shy. So getting close is quite hard.
Everydying is right. Price? Got it for RM 1.7k for the 2.0x TC EIII.
Yuks. Digiscoping may get you the distance quite cheaply but the quality is horrible.
Whoa, that's a good buy.  rclxms.gif Where did you find it?
*
digiscoping depends how much u willing to spend and whether u hook up pns or dslr.
anyway cheap cheap rm600-rm1k got...get u equivalent of at least 1000mm minimum with the 20x zoom.
nikon optics also got make digiscoping kits, set u back at least rm5k? and sure can get up to 3000mm equivalent cos of the 60x zoom.

i got it used, the guy who bought it got it barely a month ago from d'classic at amcorp mall...the shop thats opposite the starbucks.

i guess those who have sold off their D700 in anticipation of the replacement are probably kicking themselves.
would be pretty funny if nikon actually announced the D800 / D4 replacement by end of this month, and then when all is ok already by next yr and they announce the D400 that its made in japan tongue.gif

Added on August 6, 2011, 2:23 pmi dont see the significance presenting the receipt. coz.. sometime u got the camera from lucky draw n presents. so absolutely no receipt. how u gonna claim for warranty? not fair for them right?
*
never heard of lucky draw stuff having warranty.

but receipt, lets say worse case scenario...
someone reported a serial number as stolen, and it happens to be the body u bring in for service.
with no receipt, how are u going to prove its urs?

Added on August 6, 2011, 3:24 pmbtw, it's interesting that the one of the lenses nasa used in space is considered below avg...24-120 f/3.5-5.6.

Whats the difference between Nikon or Sigma or Tamron lenses?
How come Nikon one is so expensive?
And if use lens beside Nikon reliable mah?
*
because nikon got research & development fees.
sigma and tamron just rip-off & duplicate.

sigma and tamron does their own R&D. they have their own optical formulas as well, but since R&D fees are limited to them, their formulas are not as refined, but still get jobs done.

being 3rd party lenses, they cant put their pricing higher than original makers as then there will be no sales for them.

furthermore, nikon's own nano coating technology is very very expensive, as the same goes with Zeiss'.
*
nikon has a lawsuit against sigma for patent infringment.
and if not mistaken there are sigma / tamron lenses priced higher than the nikon equivalent.

Is it a common prob for D7000 or just happens on u? Im planning to get a D7000 soon...
*
technically, its not a problem, just a issue tongue.gif
most of the time im shooting wide open, so dont notice the oil spots.
but now even at f/5.6 i can see some, so time to send it in again.

Sounds like dust o_O

The other day shooting at Sepang going up to f/22, can see a lot of dust -.- immediately put on the CPL so drop down to about f/13 or so then can't see the dust so obvious already biggrin.gif
*
nope.
i flipped the mirror and saw for myself already.
lots of little black dots everywhere.

D3 also has this issue, so perhaps all the high FPS bodies may have also.

my hoya CPL is just the normal one, around RM100.
i dont use it anymore cos i got no AF lens with 52mm filter anymore tongue.gif

maybe later i buy a 77mm one, but still will be the normal one, maybe kenko.

for me, i dont use CPL often so just get a normal one from a trusted brand is good enough ok already...no need take out more money for fancy hardened glass etc.

Assuming your normal --> really normal ones and not the Pro1D, then the differences is not just it being a hardened glass but optics as well in terms of flaring etc.
*
even the pro1D flares.

btw, just got back from nikon pj, they did a very fast job less than a day.
my repair details says - replaced mirror driving unit, togo pcb, firmware updated and ccd cleaning.
no charges at all.

Wow, done within a day? I thought must leave the cam there?
How to request for fix within a day? Cause sometimes, it's not convenient to go there twice especially for those working in office.

Previously, I send in for camera focus adjustment, it took them 2 days, when I collect, I found nothing was done. After show and explain to the technician, then he adjust on the spot which took around 1 hour or so. Seems OK after that, maybe not 100% perfect cause seems the way they adjust is also based on the lens I have and one of the lens they have?
I thought the adjustment should have a standard value and use some machine for micro efficiency?
*
of cos i left it there la.
around 2pm yesterday so they can check it fully and make decision whether to replace or not.
then this morning at 10am i got sms saying i can come collect...so basically they did it within 5 working hours.

well focus adjustment is lens dependent, thats why D7000 and above can store diff AF fine tune values for up to 12 lenses.
