Nope , actli he's new with DSLR ; he meant by event is probably ; just any small (normal) events for example : prize giving awards to church camps events. He said would be troublesome if there's so many people and he is sitting at the back.

I told him ; should walk in-front but he insisted on zoom. So i guess , he really wanted the zoom thingy. haha

At first ; the budget set is below RM3000 ; but for the zoom lens he said that RM3.2-3.3 should be fine ( which is without the kit lenses ).

So i wonder if there's any better alternative , or is this worth it ?

Also , for the UV filter...any advice ? as in how to check whether good quality and so forth ?

Is he asking for a DSLR? If not then maybe you could recommend high end compact camera to your father. The likes of Canon G12, Nikon P700, and EVIL cameras such as Panasonic GF2, perform very well too. smile.gif

D7000 body it self is about RM2990, from what i heard from my friend who's into photography, with kit lens 18-105mm i think should be around RM3900?

But i got a quote of RM4200 which consist of D7000 + 18-105mm + 50mm f1.8d, with 8GB SD Card and Bag.

2 weeks ago Foto Selangor quote same price with same goodies as u've mentioned + tripod.
I recall somebody here told that one shop at Kotaraya can give better price than that.

450D --> D7000 is definitely an upgrade. More robust body, and also more advance sensor.

Today i tried the Sigma 50mm 1.4 EX HSM on my d7000...

everything looks great on the view finder... I dont know if its too soft or not but it couldnt focus on live view which was pretty dissapointing for a rm3k lens =.="

tomorrow ill try to call sigma malaysia and ask if this issue could be fix by doing the lens calibration

Do some simple focus test, make sure no front or back focus issue; Shoot wide open and at close distance, hold camera very steady or put on table. You can shoot battery, the box cover (put like 45 degrees and shoot the word in the middle), etc. You can google focus chart for more accurate test if you want to go the the extreme, or you can google to understand more on how these test were done.

You sure it's a 3K lens?

Anyway, why do you need the Sigma? Do you require f/1.4?

You would be very happy with the Nikon 50mm f/1.8G for much less.

I'm not so worried about the green cast but more so on the weird background bokeh.

What filter are you using?

that was the retail price at rm2998 at the store opposite cannon in mid valley..

but ill be going hong kong this sunday so thats why im doing an extensive research on it...

in hong kong it only cost rm 1400..

Im still deciding... is the 1.4 and 1.8 difference alot?

or should i just get the nikon 50mm 1.4d since the d7000 has a built in motor
