I did mine 6 months before Sept, in the end I pulled back my application for accommodation (so the newbie who took up my slot in the waiting list better thank me la LOL)

I believe the lady in Accommodation Office now is stressing herself out.

The convenience of staying on-campus is priceless. If you do not get the room you want you probably have yourself to blame for

1) Late submission, or
2) You actually picked the room as a 2nd/3rd/4th/5th/6th choice. The rule of thumb is that if you don't want it, don't pick it. If you picked it and given it, just freaking take it.

I hope I won't have problems starting my engine for Year 2. I forgot almost everything from Year 1, and I heard thermo 2 will be hell. I am looking forward to the Dynamics class by Hazem, NOT!.

Just to share on my case:)

I guess I am considered late to apply for on-campus accommodation, I think I applied it on the information day of Nottingham on 13th August. I was really anxious that time, as I was told by my friend who has submitted her application months ago that she did not get a single and was offered her third choice which is shared room.

I was really really disappointed by that, as I was really really hoping for a single room, lol. So I asked my dad to fetch me to the uni itself on its info day, and it happened that there's a accommodation booth there. So I dropped by, asked the person-in-charged ( I think he's a student helper there) if there's any single room left, begging him to help me in every possible ways.

So what he did was, rang up the accommodation office and said " hey I have a student here who's looking for a single room, is it any available still? If there's, she will be making the payment right away" And of course what I got was a positive answer    Yay, really thrilled, got offer single ensuite bathroom and am alocated to langkawi hall.

So my advice to other students who really really looking for a single room or your first choice, you can probably drop by the office itself if possible, and bring along your parents if can, I guess that'd be more efficient in getting your problems solved.

Because SPM standard is quite low compared to IELTS, TOEFL and even MUET, so how can they put SPM as one of the english language requirement?

This is outrageous.  The message the university is sending out is that those who can drop in personally and use their parents' muscle is at an advantage over those who applied early and followed proper procedure.  How typically corrupt.  Most international students can't apply in person and some of us are mature enough to have cut ourselves off mummy's apron strings.  The last time I checked, this is Nottingham University, not Nottingham Sixth Form College.  And whatever happened to giving priority to international students and students who live far away from campus?  If Katrina's dad can "fetch" (sic) her to the campus, I'm guessing that she lives somewhere in KL or Selangor.

LOL That's outsourcing Malaysian style. The accommodation was outsourced to a private management company. I guess the proper channel is thru the SA?

Accommodation is undoubtedly the worst part in terms of management in this university (apart from the cafe, which I heard is making big strides in improvements).

Oh yeah, any info for returning students? Like, what do we do? Do we skip Week Zero? Do we need to re-register?

Thanks for that but I started calling them more than three works ago and the line is always engaged.  They were so welcoming and assuring when I went for their recruitment talk but now they don't seem to be able to deliver.  It's all a marketing ploy to suck our money.
