I have seen a lot of complaints about them not getting their preferred choice.

If you want to appeal, go ahead.
If you want to make noise, go ahead.
If you want to just sit and wait for a better deal to come, go ahead.

Here, my (and probably some other regulars here as well) advice will be:

Sorry my bad, I wanna ask when did you put in your application? So far, I heard there's someone who put in their form 2 months ago, ended up no single room as well.  doh.gif
LOL. Nice one. You'll be year 2 this year? Staying where?
*
I will be doing my final year coming September. I will be staring in TTS5.

I did mine 6 months before Sept, in the end I pulled back my application for accommodation (so the newbie who took up my slot in the waiting list better thank me la LOL)

I believe the lady in Accommodation Office now is stressing herself out. tongue.gif
*
Let her stress out. Better still until unable to cope and resign!!

tanjinjack TTS5 you rent yourself or you rent via the school accommodation office?
*
I rent together with my friend, privately arranged. It is usually hard to get a group of friends to rent together off-campus for your maiden year here. That's why I always say, pick up any on-campus accommodation whenever possible - it's so convenient!!

The convenience of staying on-campus is priceless. If you do not get the room you want you probably have yourself to blame for

1) Late submission, or
2) You actually picked the room as a 2nd/3rd/4th/5th/6th choice. The rule of thumb is that if you don't want it, don't pick it. If you picked it and given it, just freaking take it.

I hope I won't have problems starting my engine for Year 2. I forgot almost everything from Year 1, and I heard thermo 2 will be hell. I am looking forward to the Dynamics class by Hazem, NOT!.
*
Well, you still have Dr Cosmas for Solid and it's Dr Yousif for Thermo. A lot of people have negative comments about them, but I personally have high praise over them - they are not nasty fellows like Hazem. They could have weird teaching methods/deliveries, but they are more than happy to help anytime if you approach them.
Oh yeah, Hazem, enjoy and forget. (Be glad that Dr Amir took over CAI on Year 3 since 2 years ago, or you'll get another Hazem on Year 3!)

Hey guys have you seen any bicycle repair shops around Semenyih?

A search on google maps only shows the nearest being Kajang town.
*
They certainly have some there. Google Map is never reliable I suppose for small areas like Semenyih.

Tried to scan through when I was along the main road but there's none.

It's probably in the inner roads..

QUOTE(Katrina91 @ Aug 31 2011, 01:19 AM)
Just to share on my case:)

I guess I am considered late to apply for on-campus accommodation, I think I applied it on the information day of Nottingham on 13th August. I was really anxious that time, as I was told by my friend who has submitted her application months ago that she did not get a single and was offered her third choice which is shared room.

I was really really disappointed by that, as I was really really hoping for a single room, lol. So I asked my dad to fetch me to the uni itself on its info day, and it happened that there's a accommodation booth there. So I dropped by, asked the person-in-charged ( I think he's a student helper there) if there's any single room left, begging him to help me in every possible ways.

So what he did was, rang up the accommodation office and said " hey I have a student here who's looking for a single room, is it any available still? If there's, she will be making the payment right away" And of course what I got was a positive answer  rclxms.gif  Yay, really thrilled, got offer single ensuite bathroom and am alocated to langkawi hall.

So my advice to other students who really really looking for a single room or your first choice, you can probably drop by the office itself if possible, and bring along your parents if can, I guess that'd be more efficient in getting your problems solved.

*Just sharing*
*
Somebody, who have queued up for the single ensuite room via postal/email application got robbed off because you are able to pay right away. Talk about Malaysian management.

Thank you.

Just my personal view.

Because SPM standard is quite low compared to IELTS, TOEFL and even MUET, so how can they put SPM as one of the english language requirement?
*
If your competition is not asking for all those English requirement, where it is seen as a hassle by most applicants, you need to include some alternative that allows them to skip the international English tests.
To be honest, an A1 in SPM will roughly sit out a 6.5 or above in IELTS as well. So, it's roughly the same. Can't tell about the C for 1119 though.

This is outrageous.  The message the university is sending out is that those who can drop in personally and use their parents' muscle is at an advantage over those who applied early and followed proper procedure.  How typically corrupt.  Most international students can't apply in person and some of us are mature enough to have cut ourselves off mummy's apron strings.  The last time I checked, this is Nottingham University, not Nottingham Sixth Form College.  And whatever happened to giving priority to international students and students who live far away from campus?  If Katrina's dad can "fetch" (sic) her to the campus, I'm guessing that she lives somewhere in KL or Selangor.
*
Maybe you can try to write a complain letter (although I got no idea who you should email to). Maybe write to a general purpose email, and cc the accommodation office. Quote this thread if you think it is necessary.

Guys take a look at this link. So called original developers of the whole TTS Project.

http://www.btslandcapital.com/

Compare to what we're having right now.  blink.gif  LOL.
*
Attention to iOS users, do not attempt to enter that link. It won't work because you all cannot flash!
Quite some fancy flash there, although really hate those flash that come with voices and the off sound toggle is somewhere hard to find.

Speaking of the project and how they phrase it, it is seriously misleading until you have seen the TTS itself.
But hey, maybe one day it really develops into that?

I am actually thinking that all of you should send in complain letters to the highest management. But currently I am unsure who is in charge of the welfare part of the university. Maybe you all can just send to our CEO?

LOL That's outsourcing Malaysian style. The accommodation was outsourced to a private management company. I guess the proper channel is thru the SA?

Accommodation is undoubtedly the worst part in terms of management in this university (apart from the cafe, which I heard is making big strides in improvements).

Oh yeah, any info for returning students? Like, what do we do? Do we skip Week Zero? Do we need to re-register?
*
No. Definitely not the SA. Get the highest management. If you go through SA, you are likely to give up before they take your matters seriously. SA is mostly administrated the Malaysian way as well.

I do nothing when I return, just attend classes like normal. Of course, you need to pay tuition fee!

Why are we keep on getting complaints like this? Should we be really voicing the issues out to the higher up? It should be taken care of. The change of management should result in a smoother and better operation but what I see is some even deteriorated work.

Thanks for that but I started calling them more than three works ago and the line is always engaged.  sad.gif They were so welcoming and assuring when I went for their recruitment talk but now they don't seem to be able to deliver.  It's all a marketing ploy to suck our money.
*
I will want to back our university up on the academic end though and the poor service in accommodation has always been a talk among us (I am sure you can find plenty of posts complaining about accommodation management in the previous versions of the thread.)

They do suck money, so do all other private institutions in Malaysia. May I say, "Welcome to the private education industry in Malaysia"?
At least, we deliver top-notch education in Malaysia.

hi guys, wondering what is the january intake for civil engineering about? Can I still apply for september intake now ? If I were to apply for january intake what should I do?
*
It is meant for those who can only apply after their main Sept intake. Jan intake is different as you will still need to complete a semester during a summer semester.
Put it this way. Jan-May 1st semester. Jun-Aug 2nd semester. Then you do Year 2.
Your friends who join the Sept intake before you, do: Sept-Dec 1st semester, Jan-May 2nd semester. And for them, the Jun-Aug is an awfully long summer semester where some of them take the chance to do internship or travel. After which they will do your Year 2 together with you (Jan intake) - you have caught up to them.

In anyway, just apply for Sept intake whenever possible.

If the admission office doesn't want to take your application, bring your result to the Undergraduate Admission Tutors of Civil Engineering (probably can find out on our website), they will be more than happy to help you out in the application for that result!

They are people. LOL, there will be 1 (or maybe 2) lecturer(s) being allocated as the undergraduate admission tutor. Their job is to screen the applicants especially for those borderline cases. That being said, they have the power to admit or disallow anyone.
