Only if the admission office is not helpful, i.e. do not want to accept your application.

Yeah was scratching my head over that as well.

I can see the Provost is a bit obsessed with the rankings. He sent an email when the ARWU was released as well. LOL.

And he mentioned about Monash last time, didn't he? But this time? LOL!

1. and 2., if you are not told to bring any extra documents, then you do not need to. Don't worry about forgetting any document though, they want your money and likely they'll still take you and ask you to submit later. I am entering my Year 4, I have yet to send in my passport size photos!
(Beware for the accommodation though, they are bloodily bloodied bloody-like bloody management. Just prepare well for that. Got money their eye will open already)
One more thing, the university don't accept cash for tuition fee payment. Bring a cheque or credit cards (earn extra points!). Accommodation accepts cash though.

4. Yes, they are pretty similar. I even think you should apply to see if you can join Year 2 instead (since you have done 2 years in a reputable university). Have you told the university that you have completed that 2 years? If no, please consider the Mechanical undergraduate admission tutor, Dr Yap or Dr Cheah. Their emails here: http://www.nottingham.edu.my/Engineering/D...ple1/index.aspx

3. You can cook in the shared public kitchen, although I don't think that is a good idea. You'll know. Free internet at 128kbps, more speed with more money. P2P blocked. Try to look for SNS service in the website. Pest wise, ground floor is more problematic, but I don't think you can run away from cockroaches or what. They are always there!

If you do not stay too far from Semenyih (as in within KL or NS area), you could just come on 17th to register, and come again at 20th. It's extremely boring without friends right?

As for textbooks, Year 4 Mechanical Engineering senior is here to tell you, "Textbook? What?" Library is okay.

i think they should upgrade 128kbps internet to higher speed for free in halls. nowadays 128kbps is NOTHING. it's different back 4-5 years before. hope that the management can look at this seriously at we are paying to get good facilities as well.
*
Don't you get its message "Pay to get faster"?
Anyway, it's better than the shared network like other hostels of other institutions where you'll never be able to surf properly when they are irresponsible people going for downloads/PPS 24/7.

hello,

new to the board and alot of helpful info on here!

i just wanted to know what does the uni has to offer for nightlife? i know its a muslim country n there are clubs n stuff in KL but is anything near the campus? is alchohol easily available? i know stupid questions but hey its the whole uni exp im looking for not just studying..any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

Added on September 7, 2011, 4:22 pmanother question...how many students in total are enrolled at the uni?
*
If you check the Google Maps, you'll know it is in the middle of nowhere. The nearest nightlife you are looking for is probably 45 minutes drive away.

We are not the Muslim country although our official religion in Muslim. We are free to have our own beliefs whereas you'll still see Buddhists, Christians, Hindus rather common.

Beer is not hard to get in Semenyih. I am not sure about the likes of Whisky, Vodka though.

EDIT: I think we have about 4000 students, undergraduate and postgraduate combined.

Just wondering how many students will there be per class? A big class will definitely sucks cuz' there's always gonna be people who can't keep their mouth shut.
Let's hope there's no emo lecturers who leave the lecture hall when he/she is being ignored~~

Also anyone can tell me more about the residence? I got Tioman Hall, and I'm just wondering how many floors there are. And the common room gonna be 1 per whole floor?

Cleanliness of the residence too. Do we have to set appointment for cleaner to come?
*
What's the secret code you receive? Should be something like I3A23 (the room I used to be in Redang).

We are pleased to inform you that we have received payment through MayBank on the 12th  August 2011, which amounted to RM1745.00.You are located at Tioman  Hall. Please bring this email along during check-in.

Then they don't tell you lo. Either email them ask them for your room number, or just wait until then.

i'm joining mechanical 1st yr this sem.... and i was just wondering if students are allowed to stay there over the summer break and finish credits of the second yr beforehand???
*
No, not possible. Conducted teachings during summer semester are strictly limited to those modules for Jan intake and foundation students. As such, they are all at Year 1 or lower level.
Anyway, why the rush?

That's good news.  When did you submit your application?

Guys, any feedback on TTS5?  Are the ground floor rooms OK?  My friend was offered a Type A room for RM620 a month.
*
That price, is twice my current rental, also in TTS5. Talk about cutting throat. But no choice also. Hard to find what.

No rush.... it's just that i don't think i'd want 4 months of doing nothing  yawn.gif
neway will there be anything worthwhile if i stay on campus in the summer???
*
Usually, engineering student will find themselves internships to do. Or else you could just go back to your home country (if you have the money for the air ticket). The summer of the university is dead, very dead. Only very few students are there to study and car park is never half-filled. Little to zero activity if you ask me.

but activity back home is in the minus  cry.gif
and are internships possible in the first yr itself ???
*
Might be harder to find, but it is definitely possible. But I need to tell you local companies tend to prefer locals though.
Even then, you may try to apply for research assistantship conducted in the university itself. Funding has been a lot less nowadays but you may still do something without allowance.

Oh yea, regarding the exams. I understand that Thermodynamics and Fluid Mechanics for Mechies hold 20 credit each, so the rest of the papers will be 10 each right? Anyone can tell me how does this system work cuz I never had any experience in British education system other than SPM.

And urm, the final papers for first semester, will it only be the 2 10credit paper in january and next May 6 papers?
*
Yes. 20 credits for your first semester. A bloody 100 credits for your second year.
And it's Thermo-fluid (known as ONE module) contains 20 credits, conducted across 2 semesters.
You still have Solid, Material and Design, 3 more 20 credits year-long module.
Enjoy!

BTW, I went through a different system, no bloody stuff like that.

But ye, so its gonna be really compact then.... 4 years worth of material cramped into 3 years.... GG......
*
Misconception. It's just 3 years worth of material.
Lazy to explain. But our 3 years are others' people 2nd to 4th year. Their 1st year is A-level mostly.

Like that looks better, although your textbook thing might be overlooked now.
Maybe add some words to indicate it's about the Malaysia campus? (Okay okay, I ask too much, but I am thinking whether people will misunderstand it's about the accommodation in the city of Nottingham instead.

what to do for laundry while staying on-campus accommodation?
they have laundry service in the campus? haha
*
They have laundry service which is like RM3 per kg (not sure if there's an increase). You can opt for those coin-fed washing machines though. Not sure about the rate. Never use them. Also got dryer machine as well.

how safe is the on-campus accommodation?did someone stuff got stolen before ?
*
Yes. There are stealing happening but I don't think there's any robbing, snatching, raping or whatsoever. Most stealing happen because the owner is putting those stuff in a way that screams "steal me steal me". Who will put a laptop just next to a window?
