QUOTE(Katrina91 @ Aug 15 2011, 04:51 PM) Oh that's because my friend was from there as well with a single room, around rm 300. Hmm, I never been there before, was just browsing through their brochure on accommodation, it seemed not bad to me. lol. May be pictures are always nicer la. Another friend of mine is studying at IMU, so she rent a master bedroom there in a condominium, around rm 400 excluding utility bills. Kinda feel like the rentals around nottingham are all overpriced, since there's a demand there more than supply. I have a uncle who lived at semenyih last year (around 10km from nott) before he moves to Kedah, he actually rent a whole house with only rm300 p/m. *Not trying to compare here, just feeling a bit heartache on the money that spent on something which are not worth the price, no choice* entryman, I am from Klang. Still, if you are renting a house/room in TTS5, it's still quite expensive unless you got a good landlord. I am lucky to get my house from my friends who left to UK. It's like we have inherited the house with the old rentals and I am paying rather okay inclusive of bills. It's overpriced, and be regret that you don't live near Semenyih. What can you do?

QUOTE(alexander.ch_1992 @ Aug 16 2011, 10:34 AM) Group createddddddd!! http://www.facebook.com/groups/195661860498138/That's the direct link for the group, current it's set as a closed group. So guys just send a request and pm me to let me know it's you, just in case your LYN and and profile pic differs greatly from your FB profile.[edit] For now I'll approve those who are in this LYN thread. So if you got friendgirlfriendboyfriendexgirlfriendexboyfriend or whoever, it wont work. Duwanna end up with BUNCH of non LYN members. That's for entryman, isn't it? LOL! BTW, I think we should keep the facebook groupo a lot more informal, i.e. a space for chit-chatting, organising events (if any) etc. while we try to keep most academic queries on this board? I think it's quite okay if we keep the group closed - take the LYN thread like a registration spot for them to be approved into the group?

QUOTE(DJFoo000 @ Aug 16 2011, 10:16 PM) ^ Surprised that they are still here? I heard Dr Woo was the first person to arrive at UNiM (or the Mech Eng department). Surprised they haven't fired Hazem! As far as I know, Dr Cheah, Dr Ng, Dr Woo and also the Dr Chan (who helps to set up the mech department in China campus) are among the earliest one.

QUOTE(DJFoo000 @ Aug 16 2011, 10:36 PM) I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks he should be barred from teaching. Man he is the reason why we hated EM1. He is my personal tutor summore, and half of the time during tutorials I have to guess what he's talking about. @alex, if you do Mech Eng he'll be teaching you Dynamics. He's known in my class for excessively twisting the flexible mic, creating undesirable noise that is broadcast thru the speakers. Also we can hardly decipher what he is talking about due to his thick accents. I once sent a reply mail to him after he kept on changing instruction about our lab report. The reply mail is purposely "reply to all", all same batch read it, and it's mostly made up of wordings used by him. What I find him lacking is the respect towards students. He thinks that students shall never disobey him. That's what I see in him. There's another time when he asked me out to read out tutorial question (in an attempt to put me into shame?). So, what I did is some extreme twisting of mic, and speak so so so so closely to the mic. His face darkened at once and rushed over to bend my mic away. Wahahaha, I happy what!

You still get to change the books shall you hate one. Added on August 17, 2011, 1:34 pmQUOTE(SGSuser @ Aug 17 2011, 10:54 AM) 2 years already I've never really bought a book for extra readings well only got 1 management book which was compulsory, and a small steam table Even my steam table is also a photostated copy. QUOTE(Envoy @ Aug 17 2011, 05:59 PM) got an offer for accomodation in Pangkor / Kapas Halls good or not ? Personally, for any newcomers, just grab the on-campus accommodation. It's really convenient and a great start for you to get more familiarised with the area. You are not going to do your studies here for 1 year, it's at least a solid 3 years so you still have plenty of chances to do off-campus. But whichever the way, enjoy on-campus while you can.

QUOTE(entryman @ Aug 18 2011, 11:02 AM) If you're talking about the bus requiring a card, I've got no idea since I've never boarded one..... But never in my uni life did I ever present my student card to any guards.. Well, I do, when I drive a car without the sticker, flashing it is the easiest and fastest way to get through them. Hate it that they raise their hands according the the price of the car itself. As for the bus, rules say student ID and coupon must be shown, but I don't think that's quite enforced strictly. Back in my Year 1, I boarded one night one that the guards came up checking and ask everyone to flash their IDs though.

QUOTE(Sahl As @ Aug 18 2011, 12:23 PM) 2 days back i got an e-mail saying i was allotted a single shared ensuite bathroom..... but after the payment for confirmation yesterday, they sent me an email saying that my room no. was I5A72D ....... if the 'D' at the end is what u say it means, then have i been given a single room in the 5 bedroom apartment thing???? and do u think i should contact them enquiring about this?? I think it is alright for you to play dumb and ask them about the the 'secret code'. Be specific that you want to know what each alphabet represents. You can also ask them clarify again if yours is ensuite or not, claiming that it's easy to get confused between the two. A lot a lot of ways to find out.

QUOTE(Sahl As @ Aug 18 2011, 01:52 PM) thnxx for that!!! i'll contact them as soon as i can ....... btw do u know whether minors are allowed to undertake part time employment through the university??? i have taken the BEng/MEng in mechanical engineering this sep but i just turned 17 and was wondering if i could start working over there since the extra $cash$ would be of great help........i am an international student by the way You should contact International Office for more information. I am a local and the day I join the university I am already 18 so I wouldn't have known anything in your case. But I am not convinced that there are plenty of on-campus jobs.

QUOTE(Jjdesu @ Aug 18 2011, 07:41 PM) Is there any case where 1st yr pharmacy student transfer to Nottingham on 2nd year..Provided he achieved excellent result and his exam modules are all based on uk? I think the structure of the programme is already fixed, i.e. 2+2. I am not sure if there is any successful chance like that though. No harm emailing the Director of Studies for Pharmacy though. But then, why want like that?

QUOTE(Sahl As @ Aug 18 2011, 09:54 PM) that's extremely disappointing ....... if not campus employment then what about the Dean's excellence scholarship .... is it offered to the top 10% of each course???? and will it be offered after the 1st semester exams or the second???..... i've seen the sponsorship details and i don't think there is any sponsorship for an indian student such as myself.... except the Kaust sponsorship.. and they haven't really given any details regarding that.........someone please help me out!!!! I think the scholarship is re-assessed every academic year. So you need to get into the top 10% by the end of your 1st year to qualify. Please take the effort to email the staffs here, ask them about the scholarship opportunities for an Indian like you. Also, follow up any local scholarship yourself. Such initiative could return you with a good scholarship package, definitely worth it.

I'm going to turn down their offer as I'm not going to share a bathroom with four other people. Be sure to have good alternative because you still get to have a personal room. Think wise I would say.
