you probably got the email on what to bring already right? tongue.gif
AND GUYS! i wanna ask if i need stuff like hotspot shield to go on fb games and stuff. coz i will be living off campus and the oni wifi im probably gonna get is from uni. o.o
*
I think it's not a big issue. You should be more afraid about them blocking (or throttling) file host websites (mediafire, hotfile, bitshare etc.) or p2p more.
Maybe you can consider plan from Maxis, Digi etc. instead. Mobile, you can use it everywhere.

QUOTE(Balok @ Apr 18 2012, 11:58 AM)
Was considering how to actually join the study abroad program unsure.gif

there's inter campus exchange and U21 & University wide exchange.

i've been told if i take Finance, Account and Management, the requirement to join the campus exchange program is to get 60% passing rate and availability, which is really really hard.

however i wasn't informed about the U21 exchange program unsure.gif anyone can brighten my understanding here? unsure.gif thanks

was thinking to experience in different environment smile.gif thanks
*
Not sure about U21 exchange (never heard of it in this campus). Exchange programme is more competitive, but with decent results, you should be able to go.

QUOTE(Nightwalkerz @ Apr 18 2012, 01:41 PM)
Oh. So the guard will the not stop me from entering the uni, provided i have the student id card ?
Okay, hopefully need not take. I got 1A for 1119 and A+ for English (SPM). Btw, whats the requirement for engineering students to spend their 1 year in UK's Nottingham?
*
1A for 1119 is sufficient. Inform the admission office about your result and you should be exempted from taking IELTS.

QUOTE(jacktay94 @ Apr 18 2012, 06:49 PM)
AND GUYS! IMPORTANT AND URGENT! PLS REPLY! CAN I BOARD THE BUS TMR AFTER I REGISTER? OR DO I NID TO WAIT FOR MY STUDENT ID?
*
Just board. Even when kena check ID, show him the I-am-a-new-student face and says "I am new student". At this period, it's easy to cheat like that.

QUOTE(AzIsOkay @ Apr 18 2012, 09:26 PM)
So , if a student staying on or off campus and do not have car , will it be such a huge deal ?
*
Big deal for off-campus. Unless you stay in TTS5, else you'll need to walk for quite some distance to other TTS from the uni bridge (the link of campus to TTS). If you don't want to walk, then you'll have to rely on the bus to travel from your room to uni - and that is inconvenient if you need to work until very late! And you need to wake up slightly earlier to catch the 830 bus for 9am class.

QUOTE(Arcy @ Apr 18 2012, 09:42 PM)
just board it. haha. the bus drivers never check our IDs. only once in a blue moon, b4 entering the uni, the security guard will check the student IDs of those sitting at the front of the bus.

Added on April 18, 2012, 9:46 pm

quite a number of lecturers in UNMC are pretty lousy too you know..but i guess that's part and parcel of university life.

Added on April 18, 2012, 9:49 pm

Jan intake get to stay for 4 semesters? but but i heard they only get to stay for their 1st yr, about 9 mths only, from Jan-Sept.

Added on April 18, 2012, 9:55 pm
i was told otherwise. transfer is EXTREMELY difficult to get. only the cream of the crop manage to. exchange is easier. also, for exchange program, you get to pay the same local fees whereas for transfer you'll hv to pay the UK fees
*
Yes. Their logic is, the "one year" they mean is calender year (12 months) instead of academic year (9 months). Thus, you'll have to spend THREE semesters on-campus. Since on your 3rd semester, you are half way through your Year 2 already, they will just allow you to stay for the 4th semester - takkan ask you move on middle of the year meh. But then I am not sure as with the growing demand of on-campus spots, the management may be even more *******. Yeah, stupid thing I know. Just be prepared and ask properly before you decide to go on-campus though.

And to clarify about exchange and transfer thingy!

Exchange is the harder choice, you need to be at 60% to qualify and you can spend at most 2 semesters in the sister campus. I was told that some courses only allow 1 semester, but I don't know which course! Spots are limited and you need to work hard to get it shall the number of applications exceed the available spots. For the past few years, the allocated spots for engineering students are not fully filled up - but this may change for the increasing number of students now.

Transfer, as I see it, is a lot more easier. Spots are limited, but by your money. As long as you have 55% (or maybe even lower also work) and enough money to pay for your tuition fee for the remaining years, you'll be able to do the transfer. Exception goes to those courses where it's only offered in Malaysia but not the UK campus (e.g. Mechatronics).
It is to be noted that there is some sort of tuition fee reduction for transfer students. For engineering students, you may be eligible for a 2,000GBP (or 1,000? Forgot already) reduction for your tuition fee annually. As far as I know, reduction for subsequent years are based on your academic result there already.

All these are my observations, could be wrong, or outdated when you are reading it. And cases I cite are/were true for engineering students only, might or might not be applicable for other faculties.

The card is only every used for 4 things:

1) Identification
. (the only time you will really ever need to use it is during examination, you can use you IC also though.)
. (other times, the guard usually won't ask for your card, not sure about sport complex facilities)

2) Photostat-ing
. (Near the photostat machine is a small electronic box where you tap you card on top of it.)
. (it will then display your credit and deduct if as needed)

3) Borrowing books

4) Shuttle bus

It's a compulsory subject that you must take if you are a Malaysian and are doing your studies in an institution located in Malaysia.
