Can I know is there much difference in the foundation in engineering in April and July. I know contents are the same. I mean most july intake students, will they find some difficulties?. Since April intake has 12 weeks of lesson, but July intake only 10. And is maths in FIE hard? I only managed a B+ in add maths for SPM.

July intake has only around 1 week break between Sem 0 and sem 1. The sem 0 for July intake is shorter that April intake's but its only Sem 0, so there's not much difference. As for maths, sem 0 foundation maths is a bit easy. Calculus in sem 1 and sem 2 are a bit harder. But you are constantly advised to put more effort and time on math subjects. And make sure to do your weekly tutorials on time. You will have opportunities to clear out any difficulties during the tutorial classes. It depends on you. If you feel like you need to put more effort, and you actually do it, you will be fine.

Enjoy.

Thanks for your feedback. smile.gif Okay, so the tough parts only starts in sem 1 onwards?. What's tutorials? Session where we clear our doubts? How big is the tutorial class?. I suppose u alrd done your FIE? Doing which engineering course now?

Yes, sem 0 is considered to be a bit easier other sems. Tutorials classes are 1 hour classes held every week, during which the teacher discuss the previous week tutorials(exercises). The tutorial classes are held in smaller groups, like 20 students or so. Quizzes are held during tutorial classes. You will have about 3 quizzes for each math subject.

I am still doing my FIE. I was last year April intake, and my final sem is ending in end of may. I'll be doing either E&E or Mechatronic.
*
Okay okay. What happens if I can't answer the quiz? Hahaha. Lecturers will placed the students into which tutorial class?. Alright smile.gif. You are doing the Meng I supposed? So upon graduation, you will be recognised as masters graduate?

Quiz only test you on topics you have already learned. If u did your exercises, you shouldn't have much problem. Students are put into diferrrent tutorial classes acording to ur class grouping assigned to you. You don't have to worry about that.

The MEng question is THE question of almost every engineering student in this school. However I'm not so sure of the answer yet. One of the vetaran seniors in the forum posted a detailed explanation on this. Try searching in this forum or previous versions of this forum. But you'll have plenty of time to think about this.

Alright. I most likely will join July intake for FIE. Btw, does nottingham has a volleyball team? smile.gif

Thanks for the info smile.gif. Would like to join the volleyball team. Btw, engineering students do their industrial training for how long and where?

Internship is done during the summer break, which starts from early June till mid September. The minimum requirement (at least for mechanical) is 10 weeks, but most people did 12 weeks, which is equivalent to 3 months. Finding industrial placement is the responsibility of the student. At times, you'll receive emails from the lecturer in charge about some companies wanting interns and you have to follow up yourself.
*
Alright. Thanks! smile.gif. What if one fails to secure internship?

That is the exact reason why students are encouraged to do it in between Year 2 and Year 3. So in the worst case they can still try again in between Year 3 and Year 4. Else, they cannot graduate!
It's up to the student actually, whether he/she wants to find an internship, get it done to ensure graduation, or don't do it, and no need graduate.
*
Ok. TQ smile.gif. Btw, what books to buy for FIE? Do we need to buy before class commence or lecturers will give us note and tell us what books to buy?

I used to be like you - worried too much about those. No worries, just be mentally and physically prepared, go to class, usually there is no lectures in the first week, only housekeeping stuff.  smile.gif And normally we have an outline about the modules, from there, you know what are your core textbooks, etc etc. Our library has most of the books as well. Hope this helps.

No curfew but you can't throw a party, and cannot make noise after 12am. SIEN!
IELTS is independent of courses you take. Check on the website (or the admission office if you are still confused) if your 1119 score is a substitute for it or not.
*
Oh. So the guard will the not stop me from entering the uni, provided i have the student id card ?
Okay, hopefully need not take. I got 1A for 1119 and A+ for English (SPM). Btw, whats the requirement for engineering students to spend their 1 year in UK's Nottingham?

The question here is, do they really document well the attendance? Or they just simply keep the whole sheet - and when people asked for it - "hey, this boy this time is in class bo?" - only they look it up from the sheets they keep. I believe that's the way the so-called attendance system works.
Why a change when they don't think it's broken.
No life awaiting for you. Nottingham has no life!

You have endured almost 5 years?. And gonna graduate soon lah smile.gif. Btw, did u feel your time in uni flies or passes by slowly after all the years u spent in nottingham. I'm only 18, will only graduate in 23. Seems very long to me. hahah

it is not really long to be honest, 5 years is just going to pass w/o much notice, my everyday life is just rush here rush there, and now, next week is already starting to have exams(im april intake for foundation in engineering this year), 1 month just passed like that...
*
True enough, but as we see it. 5 years, ppl always think is very long. hahaha. Oh, Semester 0 is it tough? You gonna have almost 2 months holiday soon right? How big is the class? Do they split the classes into smaller groups?

for lecture class, usually it is big, class will be split to smaller for tutorials, labs ,and study skill class etc etc...

Life gonna be busy once you get into University. But enjoy the time you have during your university, once graduate and start working, you will miss study life, because day after day you're doing the same things when you're working and not many holidays at that time biggrin.gif

Added on May 25, 2012, 2:46 amIt seems like many people are going for engineering, how's business students life then? Anyone here sharing his or her experiences?

Yeap, i know. Anyway, thanks for advice. Engineer= 5 years of hardcore studying. What course are u studying in UNMC?

It's...
Year 1: Hmm, course isn't that easy, never mind, it should get better next year.
Year 2: Hmm, this is tougher, I suppose Year 3 is easier as we have less modules to deal with.
Year 3: Oh my, why are they so many modules' assignments when I need to rush for my coursework? Now I experienced this before, Year 4 should be easier.
Year 4: What is all this shit assignment that takes up 1 week to complete. Nah, graduating soon, whatever!

Added on May 26, 2012, 2:55 pm

It's actually just about 3.5 years as I joined during January 2009 in a minor intake (with the intake count of 6 people in my course - still we managed a record of 50% people falling asleep in the class!).
It certainly flies - I always tell myself that I want to do "this" next sem/year, but repeat the same saying on the next sem/year itself. But still, I get to spend my time with a group of close friends which I find really really comfortable with - and I can tell it's going to be fun when one of us gets married and we get to be his "brother"!
*

[/quote]

Thanks for the overview. haha. I get it, the brotherhood kicks in when u mix with the same close friends for a long time smile.gif. Anyway, alot of engineering student drop out each year? or they retake papers when they fail? Is it common in UNMC?
