Checking in as it's been awhile.

Good to see Iconia users still here. I'm so in love with the Full USB port. Copying er, materials has never been easier.

i have a new acer iconia tab a500 but i forgot my gmail password and now i cant login to my iconia. password recovery via gmail didnt work out.

i'm trying to hard reset my iconia and upon rebooting recovery mode, all i get is the android icon with yellow exclamation mark. i'm trying out the quick guide to flashing rom as mentioned in the first page, but i dont see any option to select backup/restore as mentioned in step 4. i didnt have acer recovery installer as well.

how do i unbrick my iconia? appreciate some urgent help. thanks.

I believe that without gmail you also can go to your a500.
Since you have done the hard reset, just wait it boot to welcome setup screen.

no idea that hard reset will remove the root and cwm or not, so that you are not able to go to recovery mode.

I dont think i can bypass the gmail login.

I dont get any welcome setup screen after hard reset. i've updated the firmware to the new firmware OTA before the lockout problem. not sure whether this new firmware cause the recovery to be failed.

Yes, that usb port is a real wonder.

If any Iconian would like to get a keyboard AND mouse to use without a cord, he/she can buy one for less than RM100. I bought a Logitech Wireless Combo MK220 for only RM59 at the latest PC Fair to use with my laptop. Out of curiosity, I slipped the usb dongle onto the A500 and found that the combo works! Mind you, Logitech doesn't say that the product works on Android devices, but it does. A bluetooth keyboard will work but at a much higher cost.

So far, I've found that the usb port works with:
(a) my portable hard disk drive (a Transcend Storjet 320 GB)
(b) a usb corded keyboard
© a usb mouse
(d) a wireless combo keyboard/mouse
and of course
(e) a usb pen drive.

Cheers.

I read on the other forum claim that USB gamepad works on our iconia.
anyone has tried the cheap RM30 USB gamepad? I plan to buy one.

well, i never have experience about password forgot. so never bypass
but i did without sign in any google account and by pass the android phone
i believe it should do for tablet too

i have experience that OTA will remove your gmail account setting when i try update from 3.0.1 to 3.1 last time
but mine will not remove the root and cwm.
well, i'm not sure about from 3.1 to 3.2 have the same things or not

if you really can't get back your gmail account with password reset
you can just apply a new gmail account

Guys, which media player is the best for playing 720p mkv files?
I've tried almost everything, even with Dice play, the playback's still choppy and slow.
I'm still on stock firmware 3.2.1, do I have to install rom like Thor and OC to get it playing smoothly?

I have been using my A500 plugged into my HDTV (720p only) to watch videos. Sound and picture come through great. Only issue is the screen is a little too big for the TV. It isn't the biggest deal in the world except the action buttons at the bottom are blocked. I use a wireless USB mouse to control from the sofa, so I have to guess where the back and home buttons are. Anyone know why it may do this and how to fix? I have tried changing the zoom settings on the TV, but didn't seem to fix. If it is a common issue I will know to live with it (or how to fix). If not it is probably a setting on my TV and I'll dig in more.

Hi,
you may want to try this if your set is a Panasonic Viera:
Click for Menu on the TV remote.
Select TV Setup.
Go down the menu to Picture Overscan. Select Off.
Click the Return button twice.

Let me know if it works on your set.

Guys, what really voids the warranty for A500?
My little sister accidentally dropped the A500.
The screen is still ok, no crack whatsoever, the back cover was opened but can still be attached back(with one small tiny component that I have no idea how to insert it back).
Tablet's working great, just the sound from speaker not really good anymore.
Can I still send it back to Acer and have it fixed?
