QUOTE(alisabki @ Jun 26 2011, 11:08 AM)
hi, can u tell me why A500 is better than TF?
*
I have a handson test about half hour each only on the Transformer, Xoom and Iconia before deciding to buy the Iconia. I'd not say which is better . As in all gadgets, all has its pros and cons. We normally buy a specific one if we can accept its cons and find its pro is more important

I choose the Iconia : FULL USB port, micro SD and 32 GB memory - RM 1499 with free case n 2 years warranty

The Transformer has a nicer display ( not important feature as I find the Iconia is acceptable if you don't compare ). The USB and microSD is not on unit but on the keyboard dock. If I want to buy the Transformer I have to buy the keyboard dock - total costs RM 1799. I will not be using the keyboard at all as if I wish to carry a tablet with a keyboard, I am better off carrying my MacBook Air 11" which offers more solutions. So I will be wasting another RM 300 without any use. If I don't buy the keyboard dock, next time if I want to sell it - it'd be difficult as everyone expects to have the keyboard dock which is its major selling point

anyone still have problem self-shutdown after a long sleep?

i bought the iconia because of USB support and bigger memory 32gb compared to others plus all in one package plus senq price of rm1499 plus sleeve and warranty... dont want keyboard because olredi got sandy bridge i5 laptop.

using it for my expenses, Doc purposes, movie watching and angry bird.. hehehe

Did you upgrade to 3.01 ( Acer_A500_1.141.04_COM_GEN1 ) : check it at settings/about tablet

If you have not , just do it at Settings/About tablet/System Update - the download will take about 15-20 mins
Before you do the update, make sure any original default apps which are removed/or freeze are installed back. If not you will not have a successful update

I did read some users having such shutdown issues and was solved with the update

This is not true, but TF does have microSD slot on the tablet itself. On the dock, and it have full size SDcard slot instead smile.gif

Thanks for clarifying this point

i like this a500 base on the spec and price it is selling but then at 10.1 screen is a bit large to carry around beside the person. I just brought a SGS tab for my father as a present and after setting it up for senior citizen UI, i gave it to my father. The SGS tab size is is nice to carry around but it is getting a bit old school IMO. And SGS tab is the same price with A500 which is more advance not to mention android 3.1 .
Can u guys/user offer opinion whether it is troublesome to carry it around as normal use to support yr android phone or maybe i just have to wait for the SGS tab2 or the acer A101 which i feel maybe more convenient?
*
Nothing beats the portability and convenience of the 7". The SGS tab is my highly recommended 7" tablet after comparing it with my other HTC Flyer 7". I only use the Iconia at home, mostly in bed before sleep - lazying at the sofa

@exkaizen - add me to user list please.

I choose iconia mainly to read news, threads, books, magazine, etc. As 10' vertical  is just nice for reading. Some times I play media files mounting to USB, external harddrives.

Besides, when bore I play limited casual games such as air attacks, fruit ninja stuff.

The only complaint I have is its weight,  as I read a lot so can imagine holding a 800gm electronic stuff too long.
*
I was holding a 1 kg ipad for 8 months. Than it was consider a light tablet.
Down the road probably in a year we will see 600 GM 10 inch tablets - the continual growth of miniaturisatiin

wow...SGT is better than Flyer? why?  hmm.gif
because of phone function?
*
Flyer for those who love htc sense ui and its proprietary pen system, both I don't use at all. Also is more expensive. It is still officially selling for rm2499 vs rm1499 for Gtab. You can get AP sets about rm2k
basically beside these major difference, both performance about similar no significant differences
I don't find the flyer 1.5 ghz chip vs Gtab 1 ghz any difference. Maybe better for games but I don't play games
The phone function in the Gtab is indeed a bonus
At a price difference of rm1000 definately the tab is a better buy

how about SGSII compare with SGT?
I don't love to play games too...  laugh.gif
*
One is a smartphone and one a tablet. Just from performance point of view, UI slickness, browsing : SGS II if I give 10 points, the Gtab will score a 5. It is like driving a 2000 cc Honda Accord car after getting off a 1000 cc perodua

I have updated to 3.01. the shutdown occured a lot less. so in order for me not to feel the problem... i set the sleep time after 10minutes... if i dont use it for more than 10minute... i just shut it down.. hopefully the 3.1 update will settle this problem. otherwise happy with this iconia

Added on June 26, 2011, 7:32 pmbenny888,
u have used a lot of tablets including ipad, flyer. tab plus iconia. in ur opinion... whats your main user experience between ipad/ipad2 with iconia. currenly ipad selling for rm899, ipad2 16gb wifi rm1499 same as iconia... hope u can explain. (i mean not the spec ie 16gb vs 32gb stuff.. more on the experience using it) tq

Different user has different needs for their tablets. I bought the iPad than for its portability as there were no other light notebooks around. I have used the ipad for 8 months but I replaced it with the new MacBook Air 11" as it was similar in size/weight and could do so much more than the ipad

The iPad is great as a consumer consumption gadget , not as a work creation gadget. I was looking for a tablet that can give me these 2 features and it was met in the Android Galaxy Tab 7" . I could do so much more efficient stuffs on it vs the iPad. It was really portable - I can just slip it inside my baggy long pants side pockets and even my 3/4 shorts side pockets

I bought the Iconia just to get a feel of Honeycomb. My tablet of choice is still the 7" for its portability

I have posted my comments about the ipad vs the Galaxy Tab at the official Galaxy Tab thread : http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/1845083 , read post # 2 Q 21
and you will understand why the ipad is not suitable for MY usage , not necessary yours

the ipad remains a great stand alone gaming gadget and its great app store ; other than that its other features - browsing, email, office , file management loses out to the Android tablets. Well iOS5 has much improvements - lets await for it on ipad2 and ipad 3 than

Ok After molesting the A500 in Seng Heng the unit follow me home!
Add me in smile.gif
Next is the works, i read the 3G modem thing on the front page and is there any easier way to do the setup for the 3G modem? First i thought it was an apk as written on the link description then after reading it using adb it gave me headache.
i have a Huawei E1762 which can be use with A500,only problem its a Maxis open unit. Anybody try b4 this unit or i should flash the modem to normal rom in order to work?
Please advise
Thanks in advance.
*
Just run the 3g apk file will do. It will create mobile network in your settings/wireless network. Those ADB push methods were the earlier development, just ignore it
Those propritary telco modems might have issue you can try. Flashing the modem could do it

Uncle Benny, is this mean that I can run my celcom bb USB with this tablet to access Internet? If can, waooo....my be my choice. Xoom 3G seem too expensive for me now...huhuuhuhuh
*
Use the celcom huawei alternative e173 model will work. The celcom supplied usb modem built in celcom software might have issue but if you flsdh this modem to stock rom it will definitely work. This celcom modem is in the approved modem list for iconia. So another way buy the original huawei e173 n plug in your celcom card

Sorry guys I gave you wrong info. You flasH the 3g usb zip file in recovery. It is not an apk file. After flash you will see mobile networks at settings/wireless networks

Added on June 26, 2011, 9:12 pmhttp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1118639

The list of huawei compatible modems. E1550 is one of them

Added on June 26, 2011, 9:14 pmPendekar if you want you can try flash your usb modem to stock rom. Disadvantage when you plug in PC is not auto anymore, just key in manually the celcom apn settings. Alternative buy another huawei generic modem not tied to any telco

For those who are willing to try. Unlock your huawei e1550 modem

But a few ppl do report that using usb modem consume lots of battery life. (drain i mean)
*
Definitely and the modem gets warm /slight hot very fast. It will drain average at least 10-20% your notebook battery every hour depending on how strong /weak the 3G signals. I use the YES HUddle - is even worse - it gets HOT, I mean really HOT just an hour using it - the YES huddle can last only 5 hours

TIPS from Cyberkewl lowyat forumer at his EEE Pad thread: QUOTE

So you've downloaded a bunch of nice HD wallpapers with just about the right resolution for your honeycomb tablet, but then when you try to set the wallpaper in the honeycomb gallery, you realised that the crop tool isn't doing such a great job at cropping your wallpaper especially for landscape view. So what do you do? I'll introduce you a very nice application that does the dirty work for you and have screenshots of the original wallpaper that i've downloaded with the one that i've loaded up after using the tool. Check out the article here:

All recovery solutions need root as access to system files needed - this is applicable to ALL smartphones

You cannot see the external micro sdcard from pc. This affects all bc tablets . Wait for Google to address it or some solutions from xda

I am using dna 16gb class 10 and 32gb class 10. Cheaper than others, no issues with
it. Have yet to read about problems from other users at the lowyat forums
However many bad reports on patriot cards esp on incompatible issues

Installing these official update will remove root and recovery. The present solutions will not work on this official builds.

To root it back:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1138228

OR use this modified zip with root builtin:

those interest in HC 3.1 just use the actual released leaked. I have given up using the cooked ones as the more they cook it the more bugs. if you wish to try the cook roms use their initial release eg Picasso below 1.6, Dexter p1-8, honey villian1.
must say the official leak is very stable n yet to see serious bugs. s snsppier than 3.01

YES no need ; your recovery will remain too. If you flash the original leak, you will lose root and recovery.
