QUOTE(nicholasbeh @ Aug 6 2011, 07:46 PM) hehehe... let see let see... Added on August 7, 2011, 1:06 amfrom all the demo it seem the UI finally fluid and flowing... now we'll see if others can make the same UI improvement as the N9 then sure Nokia will back again into the mobile platform competition (as after the UI then we'll back to the hw capability and features) This post has been edited by sklchan: Aug 7 2011, 01:06 AM |

I wonder whether people would still want to buy this when Nokia is not supporting the OS since it was said they are migrating to WP7.
I have been a Nokia loyalist until I changed to BB Torch to get some fresh perspective and then switched back to my trusty 5800XM. Judging from the videos, this would look like the killer phone. As my opening statement, wonder whether people would still want to buy ? |

I apologize i need to correct you on that if its symbian might be but its running meego. Those that was from the Maemo world know what this OS is capable off with or without the support of the Nokia. Have you seen a phone doing triple boot aka meego + maemo + ntdroid aka android running gingerbread its the Nokia N900. Now imagine the improvement of the Nokia N9

QUOTE(l4nunm4l4y4 @ Aug 7 2011, 01:41 AM) I wonder whether people would still want to buy this when Nokia is not supporting the OS since it was said they are migrating to WP7. True, one fallback is the support, which we cannot be sure, even if they tell us they going to support it. BUT, nowadays, honestly speaking, how many people will use a phone for like maybe... say... 2 years? I think most people already changing phones quite frequently especially technology and standards advances so fast nowadays; After 1 year, your phone is already sooo outdated, there're so many NEW more interesting phone, much better specs, much better features, new innovation? etc. And the prices might also gone cheaper and more interesting "plans". I have been a Nokia loyalist until I changed to BB Torch to get some fresh perspective and then switched back to my trusty 5800XM. Judging from the videos, this would look like the killer phone. As my opening statement, wonder whether people would still want to buy ? Then again, if you're those that seldom change phone, I think most likely you would bother much with the latest specs and so on; For these people, what they want/looking for is something that they REALLY like and want to keep for long term. On this, the support might be very important to them, but I think the more important part is the OS should be stable and is offering good features/functions, with easily add on features/functions by 3rd party. The Maemo (N900) is one example, but does not fullfill the "stable" part and good features/functions, it's a pretty much incomplete OS, many functions/features missing, and NEVER added on due to no more support? The good part is the strong community and flexible OS, it allows many 3rd party to enhance and add features/functionalities to the OS, except those core functions/features. Anyway, regarding N9 (MeeGo Harmattan); I'm not sure how complete is the OS and how long will they support it; I think they would at least support it to a certain extend (and depending on the market respond?); If the community is there, there will be great support for the OS. Finally, for OS part, who knows. There *might* be a community version for actual MeeGo OS? Dual Boot? Triple Boot? The N900 can already boot Android as well as MeeGo since long ago... Commercial apps and games is another concern, which will need market demands and also Nokia to actually help push this. QUOTE(adraxx @ Aug 7 2011, 06:10 AM) Future? Linux is not something new on mobile. What about iOS and Android? Before that, there were also Linux based OS on mobile. |

QUOTE(adraxx @ Aug 6 2011, 03:58 PM) check this out - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=twrUuBTC-oI&feature=related Could be around 1-2GBwonder how much space will the os(meego) take up MeeGo 1.2 image file is around 1.5GB. QUOTE(adraxx @ Aug 6 2011, 04:11 PM) I don't think it's "some developer guy".It should be done by Nokia R&D team to test Android as their potential primary OS.The guy who ported Android for the Nokia Internet Tablets so far concentrating on N900 alone. QUOTE(adraxx @ Aug 7 2011, 06:10 AM) But it did become mainstream for servers.Linux acceptance gaining track with addition of MeeGo.So far there's Android, webOS,MeeGo & another OS being developed by Motorola which based on linux. QUOTE(mrfarhatadib89 @ Aug 7 2011, 12:12 PM) Yes.This is going to be headache for potential owners. |

Because of UI stuff.still wondering why nowaday all the os core file take soo much space... 1.5gb image for a mobile devices damn... If the OS use command prompt to navigate the OS I'm sure the size will be much smaller. |
