I'm having problem loading all sites.
Even Lowyat.net need reloading several times to open completely.
Speedtest to US completely fail.
All have been happening since 16 Sept around 12.30AM

There's been no announcement anywhere.

My youtube streaming stops halfway, no incoming data though I can still browse other websites, youtube included.

Same thing happened if I download anything from fileserve etc. 10-12% then download interrupted.

Is it streamyx or my modem/router is dying?

I don't think it's my modem coz I still can browse at full speed.
*
Yep, happening to me as well, as it's pissing me off. Youtube streams will stop partway (not even half), while anything from fileserve, megaupload, etc., will disconnect shortly after starting / restarting. This "phenomenon" is particularly evident in the evenings and overnight, but less prevalent during the day (or so my sister tells me). Some of my online tests show packet loss. This is definitely a streamyx problem. Been holding back from calling 100, because i just get irritated talking to those idiots, but my patience is wearing thin. vmad.gif

It's one thing to not be able to download from MU / Fileserve / etc. I'm having problems updating my firewall and antivirus files. This is getting ridiculous! Don't tell me the earthquake in Jakarta story???

I've just come back from Australia after finishin my degree, and I'd almost forgotten just how bad Streamyx is.

The house I was living in had a 'mere' ADSL2+ line, and you know what download speeds I was getting? 500kbps to 1mbps regularly. Of course it was capped at a 120GB limit per month, and only after exceeding it did our speeds drop to about 70 to 100 kbps.

And now I'm back here, using Streamyx's 1MB line, and my average speed is 40 to 50 kbps...

Their throttled speeds are better than my average Streamyx speeds...

And now I find that Fiber is slowly coming up, and after asking around my friends report speeds ranging from 100kbps to 700kbps.

Our Fiber connection... is worse than their ADSL2...

I'm sick of living here... I want to go back to Australia.

hahaha... I can understand how you feel, previously download a movie in few mins, now the time is x2s or x3s. Thus some people do not come back and continue to work oversea after they graduate. People used to their life style there after spending few years in Uni. Australia is 10 mbs if I am not wrong..

Or can go to our neighbor country.... 20 mbs package can get real downloading speed of 1.4 or 1.5 mbps. You won't have much time left to watch the movie because you will be busy in unzipping lots of downloaded files and moving them to external drive. And it has no cap in download limit. brows.gif The only bad point is you have to invest $$ in 2 TB hard drive every 1 or 2 month.

Good luck and be happy.... thumbup.gif

I'm sorry, but I will have to interrupt you guys..

First, I will state the connection I had in Australia. I had ADSL 2+ as well... I had a SNR of 6dB +/- that allows me to connect at 18-22 mbits to the servers which was considered very good. With that, I got about 300-500kb/sec download speed often via torrents, with the few rare moments where I got 800kb/sec - 1mb/sec.. the only time I saw speeds of 1mb/sec or more was when I was downloading from an Australian file server..

Not to mention ADSL 2+ you're limited to 1mbit upload.. so you can't seed for nuts, leaving those private tracker sites which requires you to have a good upload ratio out of the question..

Secondly, vanchrian, what ISP were you using in Australia? Most ISP shapes your connection to 128kbits or 256kbits after you pass your quota.. meaning 10-20kbytes/sec download speed..

Thirdly, I have no comment about your friend's fiber connection, but my UniFi VIP10 hits 1.2mbytes often when downloading via torrents.. often and stable.. after being impressed with that speed, I upped my package to VIP20 and now am able to do 2.4mbytes..

I was in Adelaide, my landlord had subscribed us to TPG. My landlord was a pretty nice guy actually. After we hit the limit once, he changed our subcription to the Unlimited one, and only charged us an additional 2 AUD per week on our rent.

Actually I'm not asking for us to be as good as them. All I'm asking for is for my 1mbps connection to actually perform like a 1mbps connection.

Speedtest is reporting my download rates at an average of 0.4mbps, and yet my max download rate from anywhere, within or without Malaysia, is 40 to 50 kbps. I've been living with 40+- kbps since that earthquake many years ago that affected the internet of the entire Asian continent, only mine never recovered.

So... is there anything I can do? Will calling up TMNet actually help?
