Just read the news that Stevie g won't be coming. Of coz I'm dissapointed but I rather he not come and be 100% fit for the new season than come and not be fully ready when the new season kicks off.

Regardless I'll still go to see my team come 16th

Its already 6 days from the opening of international transfer windows but looking at our current situation its kinda worrying...n too many rumors but only 1 signing so far.. on top of tat all the the deadwoods r still around... Hope could see at least 3 - 5 new players.. Mayb a new LB, LW, ST, CB, RW/AM or even a new backup GK..

Hope DC doesn't wait till the end and the rush to buy! Hope we don't miss our targets as we r looking for value for money but the market is crazy so far... Keeping my fingers crossed by hoping to see some new signings soon and kinda disappointed as we gone miss few players during the tour n there gone b only 1 new face!

I dun understand why we could spend 16 million on jordan henderson who is young and untested yet but could not spend 20 million of downing who has proven himself with aston villa and england on a regular basis.... Pls wake up Liverpool money man... we want to sign quality players now, not potential. Potential needs time but we currently don't have the luxury of time....we need quality and we need it NOW!

I think its because you could offer Jordan a 5 year contract as he is a young player. Downing would most likely get a 3 year contract. From an accounting POV, the annual cost of the signings are very different.

Henderson at 16 million over 5 years is slightly over 3 million a year. Downing at 20 million over 3 years comes up to 6 million a year. That is almost double the accounting cost of Henderson. In absolute terms, this might only be 4 million difference, but from an accounting POV (which would have Financial Fair Play implications), Henderson is half the price of Downing. Of course, this could all change if Downing is offered a 5 year contract, but then, would you wanna offer a player at his peak a 5 year contract and lock in a very high wage? This is most likely Downing last big contract and he would try to milk it as much as he could.

If what u say is true then i lost all respect for Harry. He used to be a good player for both Aus and Leeds. Then he came to Liverpool but was injured too many times to make an impact. I never actually thought he was a money grabbing b*^S$rd. I knew he was paid good wages in Liverpool, but not great and he certainly never get involved in any "ask for more money from Liverpool" kinda thing. I thought he left because he couldn't get first team slot and we couldn't use him as he is injured too often... He's getting on a bit now, lost yards of pace and not even 1/4 as good as he used to be... so how can he justify the all these money he demanded????

QUOTE(aiyish @ Jul 5 2011, 05:20 PM)
I still think its he's agent that wants the money.

His agent famously took 2 mil off the 5mil tranfer fees to Leeds. All I can say is he maybe badly advised but still he suppose to ok'ed the way the agent do his deal. If he's in his prime then I can understand but now???? Just think he wanna milk every single cent he can in his last contract & in his home country doh.gif

As Duke mentioned, he's not the kinda player that loyal to a (our) club which cant exactly blame him as he can choose to be a professional with no emotion attached. But this just showed he's loyal to $$$ only.

not to mention that the possibility of Henderson's price tag going up is more likely to happen compared to Downing.

Lee's sharp exit shames Liverpool

QUOTE
The departure of assistant boss Sammy Lee from his beloved Liverpool appears a lot more brutal than the mutual consent and platitudes of the club announcement last week.

It is understood Lee found out he was no longer part of Kenny Dalglish's regime a day after returning from holiday. In a two-minute phone call from the manager, Lee was left none the wiser about who had made the decision.

The nature of the sacking led to Lee returning to the Melwood training ground as early as 5am the following morning to clear his desk and disappear before anyone else had arrived to start work.
This is a desperate way for one of Liverpool's most popular players to end his association with a club he had rejoined in 2008 as part of Rafa Benitez's backroom staff.

Liverpool have moved quickly to replace Lee - who would never speak out because of his deep Anfield attachment - with former West Ham coach Kevin Keen.

Liverpool called Lee's sacking a 'private matter'.

whoa, so much behind the scene rumours!! who's coming, not going, transfer, not transfer etc.

well gerrard not coming to asia (for treatment/recovery for next season) is great delight to those anti-gerrard lfc forumers shakehead.gif doh.gif

his fans will be gutted but we wish him well.

its so rare to find a passionate player these days. some will give away the chance to find 'glory' (& obviouly a fatter paycheck) to remain to fight for the struggle to new throphies for the club cool2.gif
do they still exist? yes, but not a lot...& to have the supporters doubtiing your qualities & commitment...
sigh... doh.gif

it has been slow for us in the transfer market, understandable. we aren't that attractive, yes no europe, & a few good men have already given us a miss. (even a perportedly better deal but nada)

so, having lfc seemingly being patient & scouting for good deals, is no different from our often maligned spainish dude. whom was pretty worse when there is little or no mullah backing.

its so rare to have players who would view liverpool as the the greatest football club & willingly play for it.

I don't think there is any anti-gerrard lfc forumers here. Just less fond of him that's all. I think it's both good and bad that Gerrard is not coming, bad because I've always wanted to see him play with my own eyes and good because he is getting the rest and recuperating for bigger things when the new season comes on the way.

biggrin.gif well, term used many to highlight the unsavory words (repeatedly too rclxub.gif ) of our kapitan whom some have labelled as ... uh nevermind sad.gif

next season is the more important season for liverpool, its where from the viewpoint of the board, we either play catch up or become also rans & forever be be 'outside' top four. we dont want to be the next leeds nor become what has ever happened to nottingham forest blink.gif

every big football club is spending big to have a bigger quality squad, we had a very good core quality squad & often time & again found ourselves lacking when our squad always thumble during mid season/crucial continueous line-of-games.

trimming wages is important & having a lean squad is only good short term. perhaps not having mid week european (europa) is good as we fight back to chase the money spinning bread-n-butter ala CL for sustaining as a top level club & our persue to win domestic throphies.

It's no mystery why our club's goal appears modest when we said the goal next season was to haul us back into the top (and not 'over-promise' of "setting-to-win" it, but as often we often do fight for it with limited quality players)

I am shocked, no one bothered about how Sammy Lee was treated badly!
