seriously the amex card is really insecure to use, i used it to pay ACCA, sometimes it requires the front digits, sometimes the back. MBB also does not bother to call and verify.

few weeks back i used the Visa to buy hp notebook online 3k+, they also don't bother to call me and verify, straight away approved. Malaysia Boleh!

He go admit to bank that it was his own fault, u think the bank gonna layan his claims? Even for real card fraud where the victim is not at fault oso takes forever n lotsa aggro involved while dealing with the bank.

This is really a big case. I wonder if it safe to reveal card number when applying new credit card or for other purchase? How this is happened? Bata only reveal his card number is it without the security code behind?

It depends on your pattern of usage and RM3K is not much. I have charged more than RM10K many times and AMEX never calls me,

QUOTE(andyfriends @ Jun 4 2011, 10:32 AM)
has this been implemented or still tabelling?
*
It is scheduled to be implemented on 1st January 2011. Go read BNM New Guidline Thread or the link I posted in post#1. It was also front page news in The Star a month or two back.

is it that they need the 4 digits too?

Not only applying for new credit card, merchant staff can just record down our names, number and expiry date easily. Worst, what if a crooked MBB staff got our info.

bata - maybe you should go start a blog like the guy who lost his Macbook. It is really not that hard for the relevant authorities to trace the culprit since he/she bought Air Asia ticket and name and IC number or passport is required. Same goes for Pay Pay, they can check with the merchant on the shipping address.

Please let us know the feedback from AA and Pay Pal.

My usual practice to deter cc fraud:

Ask from my banker a few strips of adhesive transparent sticker ( Bank use it to protect the account holder's signature on the savings passbook), stick it on my signature and cvc at the back of the cc. Cut a small piece of sticker to cover the cvc number only then black out the cvc with permanent marker.
I save my coded cvc separately.
If I forgot the cvc, I just peel off the small sticker to reveal the number then cover it up again with new sticker.

Remember, don't use the normal cellophane tape for the 1st layer sticker. The tape quality and the glue for the normal cellophane tape might not last till the next cc replacement.

Well, I used to have a Maybank Visa Petronas Gold. I used it online to purchased a Dell laptop for my gf (from laptop, delivery address all under her name). Guess what. The transaction went through. We received the laptop. However, when I tried to swipe my card a few days later, it was blocked.

So, I called their CS and she told me they decided to block my card due to that purchase. I was like WTH, you blocked my card after you let the transaction went through?? The CS gave excuse they can't reach my cellphone to confirm the transaction when it happen. Not true at all.

Anyway, I am currently holding Maybank 2 Cards. Can't resist their rebate. Need to be extra vigilant when holding their card.

I am using UOB card too, they will block suspicious amounts charged and call you first. Once you approve only it will go through. Kinda frustrating if you always purchase in high amount but it is good security.

I got my 2 maybank cards too. They even delivered it here to their Cambodia branch of Maybank so I can collect them. Good job!

Erry, AA now does not allow air ticket name change. I tried to do that the last time and was told I am not allowed to transfer my ticket to anyone else. Only can change date of my flight.

It depends which seat or package type. Economy Promo doesn't allow change of name.

bata lodge a police report so as to "qualify" yrself as being a fraud victim.  otherwise, the bank will not bear the losses.

one word...plain stupid for u... wth u wanna admit its ur fault even its ur stupidity ?

some common sense will do my dear ..... why so afraid when ur card get abused by 3rd party ? according to BNM , if the cardholder able to report fraud in reasonable time , the max. liability for each card is RM200 or RM300..around that figure.. but now since u admitted its ur fault , i believe u gonna bear the consequence of RM3.8k smile.gif good luck...

I used the AMEX card for my Dell laptop purchase, probably it was my biggest amount swipe that time, hence AMEX called to verify.

Just called AMEX Plat CS since I was worried about such fraud being easily done. My AMEX details is so easily exposed to tens of cashiers & waiters in a mere week time.

The CS said, any online transaction with AMEX will be called by the bank. I told the CS that I doubt so because they are so many users out there, but the CS insisted that they were doing this with no exceptions to deter fraud cases. I wonder how true is this but I already asked the CS to put a strong note in my AMEX accounts, so they will surely call me up for any online transactions.

@bata,

You mentioned that Maybank called you to inform about the illegal transactions. Anyway can confirm that it is from Maybank CC centre (1300-88-6688) ? This may be a clue on how it happen.

IF the call is not from this number, it could be:

The forumer saw ur number, then from your posting elsewhere in this forum, he got ur hp number. Pretending to be from Maybank, he got more details about your card when he called you. Then, he use the card for the purchases.
