1. Read the whole thread. All the advice in the world is here.
2. Read the whole thread again.
3. Read other threads.
4. If there's still a question you need to ask, then ask.

Your marimo isn't made of plastic, it's a living being and will change shape depending on its conditions. If you read the first page of this thread you'd know marimo maintenance involves rolling it once in awhile.

If the patch was already partially disconnected, I think that's ok. If not, you're probably smothering it.

Thanks.. Because Ive bought it from a pet shop and the sales assistant there says no need to squeeze the marimo to clean it but just change the water and after that i found out in the net that it is a need. So, I assume they did not clean it for a long period of time :/.. Poor marimo, this is because, the water became dirty easily when i first bought .. so i kept on changing the water cry.gif

The need to squeeze depends on the size. Squeezing is to facilitate the exchange of water inside the marimo and the expulsion of waste.

Like I told a previous poster, don't overdo it.

doh.gif Sorry, previously I was scared of breaking up the marimo if I massaged it too hard but after that i followed your advice and tried massaging it harder and changing the water a few times. When massaging it a slight murky greenish water was emited but after a few massages the water inside it was finally fully clean biggrin.gif

I've even read somewhere on the internet where not pearling doesn't always mean it's unhealthy too. But still I haven't seen it pearl since I bought it  tongue.gif  Maybe need to wait a few weeks for it to recover from the "ride" in the packaging?  thumbup.gif Hope it can pearl soon  unsure.gif

try Desk Lamp, ceiling lamp won't give marimo to pearl
Beam the Light from ur Desk Lamp (u know, study lamp?) to ur tank.

if u're afraid to squeeze it so hard, then roll the marimo on the small towel/tissue, the dirty water will automaticly absorbed by the towel/tissue

Just make sure it's not the incadescent type, which burns a metal filament to give off light. There's too much heat from that, especially in a tropical climate.

I find rolling and squeezing marimo while *inside* water is a lot gentler too.

I din squeeze all the water out. Just a little. After the bath, i soak it in water & did fridge spa. Then i place into my fish tank. Almost a week now & sometimes it floats, sometimes it sinks. Cute..smile.gif

I have been growing Marimo for quite some time. Recently, I introduced a new pet - red algae ball. It is quite different from Marimo, as it grows faster and they are softer.
