Any tried the new ContiMaxContact 5? New series of tire from Continental. Better than ContiPremiumContact 2, and it is silica compound claimed by the tire shop owner.

how much is your budget?
15" is dirt cheap. even the ps3 is below 280. refer to previous posts for more choice.
as usual, ppl will frequent tek ming in sunway or klang jalan kapar area for wider choice.

So the GYF1 A2 is really so good in both wet and dry eh? Last time when I decided between PS3 and GYF1 A1 (That time only A1) I went for PS3 because got better deal...

How about the sidewall comparison? Since PS3 is known to have softer sidewall that is not good for heavy corner whacking...

Hi,

Would like to get some advice from sifus here.

My car (Gen-2 CPS), one of the its rim has been damaged (uneven cover on the tyre), which cause its tyre pressure keep on dropping overtime.
about 2kpi/day.

Since it is stock rim and stock tyre (almost 4yrs usage, almost 5 yrs from production date, it does consider old right?), I am thinking to change all 4 rims and the tyres as well. Should i?

Can i change to the original rim size +1 inch ? and the tyres +1inch as well? Is it stock come with 15"? any setback if i do this way?

Any suggestion/input on my above issue would be greatly appreciated. (rim, tyres, shop recommendation, etc.) Thanks. notworthy.gif

A soft sidewall actually helps to make the contact area of the thread stays the same when cornering. A hard sidewall means the opposite sidewall's thread area actually lift up when cornering, means there is less grip when hard cornering. And uneven wear will easier to occur for harder sidewall compare to softer sidewall.

For hard cornering it is always better to use very low profile tyre, but of coz that means it will be very expensive. So we only have choice of higher profile tyre of either hard or soft sidewall, less contact point (less grip) without feeling of flexing or more contact point (better grip) with some feeling of flexing.

of coz can up 1 inch. See the First page, got the rim size calculator. Check your tyre profile and then see the calculator what profile will match your car if up 1 inch.

we have the same car. Gen2 cps. I'm also close to 4 year. I barely understand your question. Our stock rim is 15 inch. Now i'm using 16 inch rim. When you use 16 inch then tyres also have to be that size. Not only gen2 use 16 inch rim but alot of gen2 on the road now using 17 inch. My suggestion is for you to stay with 15 inch. The 15 inch tyres are cheaper. 16 17 inch tyres are expensive. If you use bigger rims but cant afford the price then just ditch your plan for bigger rims. For example michelin ps3 for 16 inch is priced rm150-200 per tyre more than the same 15 inch. Times that to four tyres.

just thinking to upsize to 16" because of better grip and better look..
yup, the price different is quite big.. sad.gif
haha, to achieve something then have to pay the price for it.. smile.gif

Some recommend me 205 45 R16 of michelin ps3. Will it be a lot diff between 205 45 R16 and 205 50 R16 ? can it last like 40k mileage?
for me, grip(safety), performance(dry+wet), on the other hand noise and comfort can be compromise smile.gif

Check the calculator, not just simply hantam some tyre profile. Will affect more than just the price...

Hi, all sifu smile.gif

How do you think of goodyear NCT5 tyre for 205/45/R16 ?

I was quoted RM240 / tyre.

Total is RM240 x 4 = RM960 - RM100 (trade in 4 old tyre) = RM860.

Is it a good deal?

Thanks

a soft sidewall can be compromise by pumping higher pressure and vice versa. this is done to achieved the optimum compromise between the surface and car /
tires behaviour. softer sidewall with inaccurate pressure tend to flex during hard cornering, thus, may caused an inaccurate steering feedback. even so when running on other than low profile tires. also, a lower profile tires return a better / more direct steering feel / feedback.
its important to choose the tires that suit our driving preference / vehicle type and perhaps, surface.

So if I pump my PS3 215/45/17 to 34 PSI? A bit over? I just simply add on 2 PSI from recommended 32.

You can check your tyre sidewall for the max psi, I think 2 psi still in acceptable range. But do take note that higher psi than your car recommended pressures means your tyre will actually wear out faster.
