On the topic of tires, I would like to get some feedback.

Do you guys put NEW tires in FRONT or BEHIND?
*
I'll put in front if I were you. Had an experience turning while on raining day with tyre thread less than 50%, there is no traction at all, even tho steering have been turn but the car is still going straight. It's not fun...

FF car are very hard to oversteer/drift, unless going at high speed.

i did read the link, but they never mention what car, what speed. kinda hard to judge the relevance to own car and situation.

and not come out with own story, it's from experience. understeer when cornering + raining even tho at low speed. oversteer only happen when cornering + raining + speeding, which people shouldn't be speeding in the 1st place if raining.

and of coz, the best is still to change all 4 tyre.

3.0L car with high torque, dunno can be comparable with half engine capacity that we using.

but no 1 tyre company said like that, guess we need to change mindset? tongue.gif

saw a lot of big cars using falken. and small car using michelin.

i wonder if sometimes they stretch their budget too much.

and nothing beats a camry 2.4 using a botak yokohama C drive. sleep.gif
*
Falken also got top line model.

i remember last time 5th Gear have made braking test with worn tyre thread but still a bit higher than UK's minimum safety thread, and it still couldn't stop the car fast enough on wet surface. but here we even use the tyre till botak. sweat.gif

QUOTE(ZeroSP @ Feb 4 2012, 07:43 PM)
So the GYF1 A2 is really so good in both wet and dry eh? Last time when I decided between PS3 and GYF1 A1 (That time only A1) I went for PS3 because got better deal...

How about the sidewall comparison? Since PS3 is known to have softer sidewall that is not good for heavy corner whacking...
*
A soft sidewall actually helps to make the contact area of the thread stays the same when cornering. A hard sidewall means the opposite sidewall's thread area actually lift up when cornering, means there is less grip when hard cornering. And uneven wear will easier to occur for harder sidewall compare to softer sidewall.

For hard cornering it is always better to use very low profile tyre, but of coz that means it will be very expensive. So we only have choice of higher profile tyre of either hard or soft sidewall, less contact point (less grip) without feeling of flexing or more contact point (better grip) with some feeling of flexing.

Hi,

Would like to get some advice from sifus here.

My car (Gen-2 CPS), one of the its rim has been damaged (uneven cover on the tyre), which cause its tyre pressure keep on dropping overtime.
about 2kpi/day.

Since it is stock rim and stock tyre (almost 4yrs usage, almost 5 yrs from production date, it does consider old right?), I am thinking to change all 4 rims and the tyres as well. Should i?

Can i change to the original rim size +1 inch ? and the tyres +1inch as well? Is it stock come with 15"? any setback if i do this way?

Any suggestion/input on my above issue would be greatly appreciated. (rim, tyres, shop recommendation, etc.) Thanks.  notworthy.gif
*
of coz can up 1 inch. See the First page, got the rim size calculator. Check your tyre profile and then see the calculator what profile will match your car if up 1 inch.

Check the calculator, not just simply hantam some tyre profile. Will affect more than just the price...

So if I pump my PS3 215/45/17 to 34 PSI? A bit over? I just simply add on 2 PSI from recommended 32.
*
You can check your tyre sidewall for the max psi, I think 2 psi still in acceptable range. But do take note that higher psi than your car recommended pressures means your tyre will actually wear out faster.

but I wanna know how bad is it really. so that I know how hard to push it.
*
It's for the thread to last long, so won't be really good at wet and grips.

Best is to try push it slowly until you feel it can't take it anymore.

Falken also got the better model of ZE912.. All Season Performance Tire.. Some mixed review, tested on my wira 195/50/R15 not bad..

Pro: Rain or no rain, grip is good compare to local or chap ayam brand trye.

Con: Got a bit sound during high speed driving..
*
The car I saw is fitted with Falken FK452. But I don't think even this two tyres can be compared with its original tyre, PZero Rosso.

Among the list here:

Bridgestone GR90 - RM320 Bridgestone Art, Old Klang Road (Mar 11)
Continental CC5 - RM264 Senawang (Jun 11)
Continental CC5 - RM240 - Btg Kali
Falken ZE322 - RM260 - Btg Kali
Falken ZE912 - RM220 - Btg Kali
Goodyear Assurance - RM255
Michelin XM1 - RM260
Michelin XM2 - RM275
Silverstone M5 - RM190 - Silverstone Btg Kali (Sep 11)

Which one is the best tyre suited for a comfortable ride?

michelin XM2 is not bad...very silent yet good grip on dry..on wet dunno yet...used for myvi...185/60/14....
*
Tried XM2 on wet, good grip. Yes, agree on silent part, on highway can't hear the sounds.

QUOTE(gladfly @ Mar 16 2012, 06:11 PM)
I beg to differ...had PS3 and now on GY Assy 2. IMO GY is better than PS3...in NVH and in wet. Dry performance probably the same
*
But F1 Assy 2 lining for water look more smaller than PS3, doubt it will give better water clearance.

Other tyre to consider beside AD08R
Dunlop Direzza ZII,Bridgestone RE11A,BF Goodrich Rival,Hankook RS3,Toyo R1R
Most cutting edge tyre for 2013 would be Direzza ZII,RE11A,AD08R and Rival
2013 really is the high performance tyre year
*
Except for R1R, good luck finding the other tyre.

There are some people that directly import those tyre, but the price would be... And if buy such tyre better put at another set of rim otherwise it would be wasted if only for daily driving.

t changed my preve shoes from stock gt radial champiro bax2
done 20,000 km exactly.  in my opinion the Tyre performed considerably well.  able to accommodate need of my travel which mostly city Drive with occasional long drive. noise level 5.5/10. grip 7.5/10 thread wear 7/10. I didn't dare push the car fast and hard over corners but I did few times and it didn't fail me. wet grip 6.5/10 (not spirited during rain) I had zero skidding episodes.  and it managed emergency braking well. zero punctures.  didn't regret using up the tire for one year considering it didn't hurt my wallet and kept me safe. keep in mind I'm just average driver. changing tire before the noise and grip worsen. the ratings I gave above is at 20k mileage.

currently just changed into good year f1 directional 5. so far it's smooth.  haven't finish run in yet.  will update soon.
*
Your GT Radial only lasted 20k km? That's seems very fast. Normally tyre can last 30+k km till 60k km for average user.

195/50/16 very hard to get??
Alternative size i will recommend:
215/45/16
205/50/16
205/45/17
215/40/17

Any of those above size will have very close rolling diameter to stock so your speedometer will still be accurate smile.gif
*
Got 215/45/16 in Malaysia meh??? Nvr see this size before.

195/50/16 very limited choice. Last time looking for this size only Continental, Goodyear and Hankook have it.

Hi BROsssss,

Need your guys advise..

I planning to change my tires. Currently i'm using 175/65/R14 for my vios.

but i'm in dilemma whether to change to 185/60/R14..

May i know will there have any difference within this 2 tire profile??
*
Can change no problem. A lot of people have changed to 185/60/14. This size give better grip and more stability due to bigger width.
