need help/opinion. going to replace kia sportage kumho 215/65/16 with continental conticrosscontact LX (made in romania) at shop near pj oldtown. but price is RM420! (shop said promotion price) michelin xm2 is selling RM540. other dunlop brands around RM370. Is this shop selling expensive? any other recommendation for other shops? thanks

Falken ZE-522?? He should have gone with the Azenis models....>_>"
*
522 was one of the lousiest tires around. especially in wet.
st-115 which am currently evaluating had been quite promising. mixed reaction in wet thou.
treadwear is 280 but due to the soft compound, it wear out about the same time with the 220 rated re-001.

QUOTE(turbocharged @ Dec 22 2011, 09:01 AM)
saw a lot of big cars using falken. and small car using michelin.

i wonder if sometimes they stretch their budget too much.
and nothing beats a camry 2.4 using a botak yokohama C drive. sleep.gif
*
how about a scirocco with corsa tires? or an alphard with forceum?
i should have take the picture of 'em.

QUOTE(kcng @ Dec 22 2011, 11:45 AM)
and believe me, some ppl actually bring their tyres to the max everytime they drive...
a certain RRR here

QUOTE(yngwie @ Dec 22 2011, 07:55 AM)
well, it depends.  whistling.gif
actually, quite a number of us prefer wet condition  brows.gif
btw, new tires placement is much depends on the driving style and car setup ; ie, running wheels.
exactly!
they only realize how important the grip and traction are when they venture into other
ppl's car / drain.
fine example ; a friend of mine insisted on falken 522 against my advice. recently, he ventured into a drain
and then he realize it was the tires that didn't stop in time. not his twinpot  doh.gif

and if we ever noticed, quite a lot of cars out there are running with cheap tires which even beat the slicks in
tread looks, in other term, ' botak' doh.gif

ive seen people running tires that have their internal metal wires exposed LOL!

Avanza... can afford Avanza but no tyres?

Some are too stingy, some go a bit far (P Zero on a 320i?). But I'd rather have everyone use too good tyres.

Better than in Switzerland. A friend is complaining that the traffic is very slow there atm, crashes all the time because they all use cheap Chinese tyres on their big Mercs, BMWs, Audis, ... hmm.gif

It's not about constantly using the tyres to their limits. But what if you just drive along on the highway, maybe at 100, it's wet and suddently you have to brake very hard. Do you want the tyres to loose grip, if you don't have ABS even totally lose control and spin? No. So get the best you can afford, and don't wait too long with changing them (slicks are useless when it's wet).

I could see the wires, they just didn't turn up on the photo. Do take a photo when you see worse offenders smile.gif Police should saman them, other countries do that too (afaik <1.6mm in summer and <4mm in winter). I mean... another reason to hassle the population and to get money, how can they not make use of that?

225/45/R17 is around 600+.

Luckily for me I'm not using the car for around 3 months so I'm gonna get it changed only around Feb or March as no one will be driving the car. tongue.gif Good time to start saving I guess

my short review on the yokohama c drive 2 copy pasted from the technical talk forums:

Just gotten all 4 tires finally replaced for my Nissan Sentra, and as you may have guessed it, it is the Yokohama C drive 2.
Here is my short review on it:

- SUPERB NVH reduction. can barely hear road noise despite going over 120-140km/h
- grip is really good too, which is understandable from the soft compound, was driving pretty aggressively during the test run
- can't comment for wet grip as i wouldn't dare risking the car and it wasn't wet/raining at the time

Also, i have did some recording (you may ignore the video lol) on both pre/post tire change for a more solid benchmark to reduce/eliminate any placebo effects (You know, spanking new rather expensive tires and all)
and below is the sound spectrum comparison:

QUOTE
Attached Image

Pre test tires are Continental CC-1 mid/late 2006 production stock tires from the day the car was purchased
Post test tires are Yokohama C Drive 2 mid/late (week 2x 2011) brand new from shop

time of pretest is around 7ish AM 14th Jan 2012
time of posttest is around 3ish AM 15th Jan 2012

avg speeds of pre test is between 100km/h to 130km/h
avg speeds of post test is between 110km/h to 150km/h

granted, both tires and times are rather biased for an accurate/solid benchmark, however the NVH of the new tires are just god damn remarkable. Hell, if you google up reviews/feedbacks on the c drive 2, so far i just cannot seem to find anything bad about it save the tread wear, which again, is understandable for the benefits it provides being a soft compound tire.

not to mention, wind resistance/engine noise are present in both testing, and overall is louder than the tire/road noise. and that makes it even harder to gauge for a more accurate benchmark

for the actual sound sample/recording, you may refer to below links on my server (again, you may ignore the video as i have to leave my handphone on the passenger seat
http://www.quazacolt.com/continental_cc1.3gp

http://www.quazacolt.com/yokohama_cdrive2.3gp

feel free to feedback/ask any questions, thanks smile.gif
hope you enjoy my review.

environment and tires condition aside, on paper, c.drive2 is definitely much better than cc1.
if your previous tires are of michelin primacy or ze-912, the comparison may not differ much.
enjoy your new tires. drive safely.

Potenza RE002 user here, have used 3 sets of previous RE001 before & 1set of PS3.

RE002 hard sidewall is better than PS3 for dry traction. But again, PS3 steering response is lighter, cripser, sharper than RE002. RE002 still suffer from wet driving...once the tarmc dry up..it is kicking and alive again !

well, the re002 was made in indonesia. sidewall a tad softer than the re001 it replaced.
drove a friend's car fitted with re002 recently. never really had a chance to push due to heavy rain but its wet grip isn't up to my expectation(after the re001).
less aqua planning thou. taking corners isn't as fun as re001.

verdict ; am not gonna fit it to my ride smile.gif
