The Countess reckons instead of just going round and round, it's better to ask those with real exposure at higher levels.

you all might want try getting in touch with real people who already achieved managerial level and above who can share their real experience with you. It is very important to know various methods to work your way to the top, NETWORK and also learn something about office politics (like it or not, it exists in every office, can't run away)

I've been checking out this forum here and it sounds like the people there got some business linkage that may be of help:

Never rush in getting a job.

Don't feel compelled to get a job asap, think first before landing into the job.

If the interviewer/your future employer looks down on you or say things that are meant to down grade you and questioned your qualification,
never take up the job.

I have friends who are pressured to get a job and despite the harsh things that the interviewer said to him, took up the job. Besides him,
there are a group of others who took up the job with him.
Now they are all under a contract that is unfair to them and are constantly threaten if they are said to have under-performed.

Being stuck in a place you don't enjoy especially having harsh and unkind words said to you is surely not the job you want to land up with.

The interviewer made them believe that they are very lucky ones be choosen and how many others out there who are jobless.
How many of those out there would hoped for this job. How thankful they
should be because the company is willing to take them.

I have a similar experience. The interviewer on one hand told me how qualified and good I am while on the other questioned the marketability of my degree, saying that there isnt much future for me in any field. He told me how difficult it was to find a job and especially for someone with a degree in physics like myself. How futureless I would be out there.

That was my first interview after I graduated. Imagine, anyone who just got of school, desperate out for a job, uncertain about their career path.
Then someone so manipulative came in, talk all these things into their head. You can just easily walked out of the place, thinking about how useless you are in your current state.

And the pay that comes with the job was so little. Thank God I did not take it up. As I was going back, I felt so terrible but I cannot accept that my life is so restricted, that I am helpless in where I am.

Two weeks later I got a job that pays 75% more. All my interviews, I got the job and they all paid equally well. And six months later, I got another job that pays me double!
If I were to listen to that person, I would definately be helpless
and in misery.

So...
NEVER rush.
NEVER let others make you feel helpless and useless.
NEVER give up
Keep on trying
Dont restrict yourself
And BELIEVE IN YOURSELF!

Good luck & stay confident smile.gif

a little sidetrack, a good book for everyone to pick up is The Business Coach. a good read, not for its literature strength, but for its ideas on running a business.

reading this will allow you some ideas on how some of the companies are being run as they are and why. but more importantly it helps you to see systems from different perspectives.

i like the fact that the ideas of the book are relevant in our daily lives, such as having vision and mission, and the concept of test and measure to determine how are we doing at this point of time.

I agree with this one, dun rush, i almost rush few months back, and they offer me low salary with two years bond. waiting for another offer. its almost double the salary the former given.

during the interview, dun be shy to ask ur questions. ask questions to let them see u are interested in the job. learn what body language u should avoid during interview. Its also help alot. smile.gif

thanks for putting out such good words. I always feel that others are landing into job positions while im nowhere to begin with, im graduating this coming august with a degree in management but i always feel like im useless as every time i applied for something i tend to be left out of the group that the employer responded to. Sometimes i get shorlisted, but in the end the whole thing just fades away...like the intern that i applied for at motorola, first i was there with 5 other people in the shorlisted group, but then they just abandon the application status and people started withdrawing, till the dateline there was no answer, no clarification whatsoever.

Sometimes i get offer from people who blame that freshies are worthless coz what they need are experienced graduates and begin to belittle people so much that i begin to believe that the world is so harsh and cruel.

I'll not rush, I'll keep on trying and I'm gonna downplay people who look down on me and makes me feel useless.

thanks smile.gif

I do not like to call people for that reason.  I normally will e-mail someone.  However if I cannot reach someone by phone, I will e-mail the person instead.

No, I don't like to solve problems. When the maths becomes partial differential equations, or some series, it's too abstract and takes too long for me to solve. I could take one day to one week to solve an engineering course problem in the past. I think the good EE is expected to do it within the hour. I guess a good EE must be a Mensa member.

I don't like to do things where I don't receive feedback about my work. Such as I don't know how long I'll take to solve my engineering problem because I don't know whether I'm correctly working towards the answer. I don't like to feel lost, like I didn't know what the right answer was, and how to derive it. I don't like that I was expected to be independent in Uni, because how independent was I expected to be? If I had to figure out myself how solve my textbook problems, then I might as well not go to Uni, might as well have taken a distance learning degree course.

I'm really an unskilled EE. I'm trying to improve my skills by learning my course on my own time, all over again. But I still feel lost, just like in the past.

Well you start to sound like a process engineer. Ever though of becoming one? Basically a process engineer thinks about how the product and part is supposed to be manufactured. Then get everyone together and trash out the ideas. No need solve engineering maths or stuff, you have vendors and suppliers for the nitty gritty, but you will need good understanding of your process capability and have datas that they will need to proposed a solution to your problem.

If all EE engineer in Malaysia is a Mensa member, we will be better than Singapore and Japan put together. icon_rolleyes.gif
