So if you not really bringing it out may i know why choose expensive alienware instead of powerful desktop which you can keep upgrading them?

Also do you hook up your alienware like a desktop to LCD TV/Monitor, surround sound speakers, external keyboard & mouse etc? Coz it'd become more like Desktop already.

well, bringing out in a sense that i don't go out daily with my laptop, but my work requires me to fly around the world, and hence this is why i considered an AW....i need to look at CAD drawings, and sometimes, the file gets so big, that it lags my current laptop badly...i dun use the AW to game 100%, i can also use it for work....

QUOTE(fireboy @ May 7 2011, 07:43 PM)
lol, that's same, as like usb3.0 also can plug-in 2.0 rclxms.gif

i did some walking around just now around WanChai, and there is this computer center beside the southern basketball court (Mtr exit A5, the left building once you've exit the station), there is a dell shop there, but yet again, they don't carry ex-stock there....but honestly, looking at the specs i just gave you, those are older specs...so don't expect much man....

Damn, that's too bad bro. Thanks for all your help though! I'll tell you guys about it, how my quest went when it does, maybe even post here when I'm in HK myself. Thanks for all the help again, really great community here, I hope to be part of the AW owners club too LOL.

Damn I'm all so jealous of y'all...BTW, if I buy on retail I won't get the custom nameplate right? Where exactly is the plate located? And is it nice?

EDIT: All this talk about the m14x is making me second-guess purchasing an m11x. Any m11x owner care to give me some reassurance about its CPU power and screen size? I own an 11in Asus netbook, so I'm hoping I won't be bothered by the small size. I also have a Q6600 desktop with a GeForce 9600GT GPU (a 2 year old desktop) which still plays all the latest games at high settings so I have a primary computer.

I plan to use the m11x for word processing, gaming and multimedia on-the-go. So far the reviews I've seen show that the m11x can play SC2, Crysis at med-high settings which I don't mind at all, and yet I see some people always complaining about its 'lack of power'. Anyone care to give me some reassurance? biggrin.gif

don't worry about it, it takes dell either 2 to 3 weeks to complete the manufacturing of the laptop, so eventually, you might get it when you go to ur dad's workplace...hehe

There might be little discomfort changing from big screen (>15) to a small screen (<15) at first, but i can assure you it will get better from time to time, i finally get through it after 2 weeks of using it when i first borrowed the M11x from my sis. But i am sure it is slightly bigger than your 11inch Asus netbook.

So far i am very satisfied with its battery and CPU power, it can hold up to 6~7 hours of normal usage (Programming, web surfing, movie) and 4~5 hours of intense usage (gaming), they claimed it can hold up to 8 hours but i have yet to experience it. I have no problem multi-tasking and running all my engineering softwares and i actually lurve it more than my m17x because of its mobility potential, where it enables me to move around my campus with ease!!

Since you already have a desktop for your primary gaming, M11x is more than enough for your "word processing, gaming and multimedia on-the-go".
It depends on your preference and budget seriously, no point getting something you don't like right?

M11x: less gaming potential, more mobility
M14x: more gaming potential, less mobility

Its your choice. blush.gif

Meh, that's enough biggrin.gif I need the mobility more because of my job, it's too much of a hassle lugging around a heavy weight. If I can still play the latest games on high settings that good enough for me biggrin.gif

Normally how many years before an Alienware becomes obsolete like normal laptop already catch up with the processor & graphic cards? 3 years can? Or every 2 years need to buy a new one.

Or you can just upgrade the graphic cards like desktop?

High end Alienwares can last very long in terms of specs nod.gif
Take the Doc's Alienware with GTX260 for example, its still better than most of the mainstream mid-level GPUs we get in the market now rclxms.gif
Iirc, they are upgradeable for the M15/17x, and probably the M18x too

got to agree on that....hence why i said in my previous post...Value for Money....you pay for what you get....though i wouldn't count on the apple bandwagon at times....
