Hi guys, I am from the Philippines, and will be visiting HK in the following week. I apologize for posting in a Malaysian forum, but I've read a few threads here and it seems people are knowledgeable here about the HK retailers situation.

I've been trying to buy an Alienware m11x R3 for the past month, but it's too expensive to buy here in the Philippines from retail (super overpriced), and presently have no way to order from the US (corrupt post-office here in the Phils). I'm wondering if electronics retail shops sell the m11x R3 in HK? I'm particularly looking for this 11999 HKD model. Do you guys know the price range for this model in Broadway or any other shop? Thanks!

EDIT: And BTW, how do they go about giving you customized nameplates for retail purchases?

uhh, sorry bro, Broadway does not sell the alienware models by Dell anymore, they are only selling the XPS 17" with 3D there now....they used to sell the M15x there, but i think they took it down because of the new model by Dell....

If you are asking for any retailers selling alienware, i don't think there are any....so your best bet is to find a friend who is staying in HK, buy it online and send it over to his house...
*
Damn, that is tough...I know no one there in HK, will be going there for a vacation. It's so difficult to buy Alienware, they're not making it easy man. And I was hoping some retailers were gonna sell it.

EDIT: And I guess it's also a pipe dream to find sellers available for pick-up instead of delivery because will be staying there for only 5 days.

retailers doesn't do custom nameplates as well, so your best bet is still getting it online....plus, delivery for the alienware ranges from 2 weeks to longer....i dun mind offering my help, but you are only coming up to HK for 5 days...so i doubt that it'll be on time...
*
Yeah, will be staying there from May 15th-19th. I don't mind the nameplates too much, I guess it's not that important compared to getting the laptop itself. I actually emailed the Dell HK Sales, and they suggested Kingshill and Broadway. She wasn't much help though.

if you don't mind, i can help you check out Broadway today around Times Square and the one near Sogo....but i highly doubt that they are selling the Alienware M11x though, and mind you, retailers sell them at a higher price as well....
*
That would be awesome bro! If it ain't too much to ask, I'd really appreciate that. Because if HK won't be an option I'll be looking out for alternatives (like making friends with US people lol).

it's fine...besides, it's near my house anyway, within walking distance...i go there sometimes to check out new electronic stuff anyway...but honestly, i don't think you might get it in Broadway though....
*
It's still great so at least I can rule out Broadway as a possible source. I've heard from friends that they heard there's like a Dell or Alienware distributor in Tsim Sha Tsui? I dunno how true that is she may just be talking a load of bull, but whatever, I guess it won't hurt to try once I get there.

Hi tUps, thanks for the offer, but I don't think I'd be able to give you anything back biggrin.gif

@putochip: Well, not as overpriced as here in the Phils tongue.gif

Before anything else I'd like to thank you guys for the quick and helpful responses, this sounds like an awfully nice community biggrin.gif

But he said delivery to the Phils is already problematic~ shakehead.gif Unless you can fly there and meet him personally~  hmm.gif
*
Yup, it's very problematic. The tax is astronomical, and in the first place I'm gonna need someone to send it to me since Dell doesn't send directly to Phils. And the retailers who sell here overprice too much (RM 5600-6300??).

Doc, i haven't go to broadway just yet, a bit caught up with work, will inform you shortly.

Guys, those with the m17x R3, any issues so far?.....i'm gonna receive my next week, and i'm already trying to stock up games to play...i might buy COD black ops this weekend, and maybe pre-order the witcher 2...
*
Hey bro, no sweat biggrin.gif You're doing me a huge favor already, thanks! Looking forward to some good news.

Damn, it's so frustrating for me here, I've been on Google scourging for solutions to this problem, and I can't find one to suit my needs short of having a trusted friend abroad who'll go home here to the Phils (which I presently don't have). This HK trip is my best chance.

Bro, i've checked out the laptop for you, the specs are above, it's the old model, i think Dell are trying to clear it by selling it to the retail, and Broadway is selling it at a higher price as well. I think it's better if you can order it online, or ask around here, i think there are people selling it, but no idea how it'll be sent over to phil though...wink.gif
*
Hey bro, thanks for your help! The good news is that it DOES exist in HK retail shops. I'm hoping I'll be able to find an R3 looking around the marketplace. How much more overpriced are the older models though? And are they R1s or R2s (I can't see where you place the specs biggrin.gif)?

I'm crossing my fingers I'm gonna find an R3 there...I found a few articles from blogs that some retail scores used to carry m11x models back in October 2010. I'm hoping it stays true up to now.

i did some walking around just now around WanChai, and there is this computer center beside the southern basketball court (Mtr exit A5, the left building once you've exit the station), there is a dell shop there, but yet again, they don't carry ex-stock there....but honestly, looking at the specs i just gave you, those are older specs...so don't expect much man....
*
Damn, that's too bad bro. Thanks for all your help though! I'll tell you guys about it, how my quest went when it does, maybe even post here when I'm in HK myself. Thanks for all the help again, really great community here, I hope to be part of the AW owners club too LOL.

Damn I'm all so jealous of y'all...BTW, if I buy on retail I won't get the custom nameplate right? Where exactly is the plate located? And is it nice?

EDIT: All this talk about the m14x is making me second-guess purchasing an m11x. Any m11x owner care to give me some reassurance about its CPU power and screen size? I own an 11in Asus netbook, so I'm hoping I won't be bothered by the small size. I also have a Q6600 desktop with a GeForce 9600GT GPU (a 2 year old desktop) which still plays all the latest games at high settings so I have a primary computer.

I plan to use the m11x for word processing, gaming and multimedia on-the-go. So far the reviews I've seen show that the m11x can play SC2, Crysis at med-high settings which I don't mind at all, and yet I see some people always complaining about its 'lack of power'. Anyone care to give me some reassurance? biggrin.gif

There might be little discomfort changing from big screen (>15) to a small screen (<15) at first, but i can assure you it will get better from time to time, i finally get through it after 2 weeks of using it when i first borrowed the M11x from my sis. But i am sure it is slightly bigger than your 11inch Asus netbook.

So far i am very satisfied with its battery and CPU power, it can hold up to 6~7 hours of normal usage (Programming, web surfing, movie) and 4~5 hours of intense usage (gaming), they claimed it can hold up to 8 hours but i have yet to experience it. I have no problem multi-tasking and running all my engineering softwares and i actually lurve it more than my m17x because of its mobility potential, where it enables me to move around my campus with ease!!

Since you already have a desktop for your primary gaming, M11x is more than enough for your "word processing, gaming and multimedia on-the-go".
It depends on your preference and budget seriously, no point getting something you don't like right?

M11x:  less gaming potential, more mobility
M14x:  more gaming potential, less mobility

Its your choice.  blush.gif
*
Meh, that's enough biggrin.gif I need the mobility more because of my job, it's too much of a hassle lugging around a heavy weight. If I can still play the latest games on high settings that good enough for me biggrin.gif

well....i never actually sold anything on the forums yet, but from how i see things, you customize your laptop, and send the cart to me, i deal with the hoo-haa's then i find a way to courier it back to you when it is delivered to me...but overall, i'm not too sure about the taxes and customs regulations for M'sia, since i never actually send things back to KL...

as per my knowledge, all items couriered into Malaysia will have like a 17% tax or something like that?...i'm not too sure about the overall details, but that is what i've heard from DHL actually.

but yea, as Alvin said, it's gonna be more expensive to repair it and stuff, and overall, it takes a much longer time for you to get it.
*
Bah, it's so tempting to just ask you to buy me an m11x there bro. But whenever I hear and read horror stories of the corruption and thievery of the Philippine Customs I quiver in fear and disgust tongue.gif

ok so, i dont mind purchasing for those who want it but i cannot guarantee your doubts and the dell complete care would cover in malaysia (ps was told it will by the dell sales rep in US and canada). but i can assure u that the item will be shipped perfectly.

plus i wouldnt order from dell USA cos its more expensive than dell canada unless you are a serviceman (extra discount) in the US or u want the customized nameplate.

if you do want to order from US, its outta my reach.

overall this m18x is CAD2000 cheaper than the area51 m17x and the m17x i bought :/

I've seen a lot of 'requests' from forumers to buy them AW products then have it sent over to their country, not just you bro. How exactly does this work? biggrin.gif

Bah...I'm beginning to lose hope over this HK trip. Thanks a lot for the effort bro, much appreciated! biggrin.gif

Transfer fund to him > he ordered as you wish > ship to your country > enjoy?

Bear in mind that :
- Additional cost for shipping.
- Additional cost for tax (for certain country, Malaysia is excluded)
- Unsure warranty coverage.
- Additional fees for GreaseMonkey90 brows.gif

Oh, that's cool. It's great that people here exist that do that, though here in the Philippines doing that is asking to be scammed =P Off-topic, are you really a doctor? biggrin.gif I'm actually presently a bum trying to study for licensure exams biggrin.gif

Licensure examination to practicing medicine in Malaysia or Philippine?

Heard that examination is quite an easy for Malaysia; provided that you undergo extensive practical with solid theory (which is a must for every graduate). It will be easier if you are under MARA or JPA coverage too.

In the Philippines biggrin.gif Licensure exams on August, must start studying now LOL. Unfortunately my m11x dilemma is distracting me biggrin.gif

it's cool.....but dun give up hope...i think there's a way for you to get AW either way...but with you say how screw up the security issues in Phil....you have to be careful with it bro....

Yeah, I know. Am trying to contact a friend of a friend in the US, just in case. Hope all goes well LOL.
