Angela Lee:
I don't see how in any way protein contributes to cancer. Not at all. If you're talking red meat being associated with colon cancer then yes. But up to today, I haven't read in any medical book that lists high protein diet as a risk factor for cancer. So no, the onus is not on me to search for proof because I think what you're spewing is crap. I'd happily eat my words (and my hat) if you can point me to a reputable peer review journal that supports this finding you claim to be true. |

QUOTE(BATMAN99 @ Apr 22 2011, 10:56 PM) Hi people out there, I've been worried about this situation long time ago, and I always think of what else I can do to gain weight/ to grow stronger. Anyway today I decided to create a thread here as I know many of you are experienced in fitness topic, and I believe I can start doing something that will help myself after getting advices from you all today. IMHO, you need more self esteem than weight.I'm 18 this year, my height is about 174cm and with 50kg of weight. My weight has never changed after my form 3 year. No idea but no matter how much I eat, I still looked the same. The worst part is when I take off my cloth, I can see the "bone" both above my chest. It's not only I can see, I can even touch it because it's like just wrapped with a thin skin. And for my waist, it's only 26" Ok guys, I think that's what I could think of to describe my situation now. I really keen to learn and know more to change my body shape, but I was always clueless. So people! Hopefully I can get some guidance and advice here, million thanks!!! Well anyways, I'm in the same boat as you under weight. Trust me when I tell you aren't eating much, if you eat 2000 calories every 4 hours (assumption) it won't be as effective as eating 500 calories every hour. Try eating every 1-2 hours, hit the gym do some overall muscle workouts such as Squats, Deadlifts, Bench press, Pull-up, Chin-up, Leg Press. While your at that, invest some money into mass gainer or weight gainer. I'd suggest mass gainer. With strict discipline and proper rest, you'll grow in no time. |

There is a very rare medical condition in which no matter how much food has been consumed the person's weight remains unchanged. |

QUOTE(wts6819 @ May 2 2011, 10:20 AM) Don't be sarcastic. Sure. Your statement & info might lead misunderstanding to other forum members. Give a supporting details then people will learn from it. Take protein = Take exercise/workout. There are many classifications of proteins in medicine. The things being said about red meat leading to cancer is a misconception. Most people tend to relate red meat=bad (another misconception). Because you would need to examine what the cow/pig eat in their diet (the origin of the meat source). If the cow eat grass all their life, then the risk of cancer associated with protein is significantly less (or close to none) because the protein has a different chemical composition. Different kinds of proteins serve different functions in the body. However, It is not good to take too much protein by thinking doing a lot of exercise/workout will help you build muscles (another misconception) and then neglect the other associating risk of chronic illnesses. That's why the key word is "too much". The body is not designed to take up "too much" of anything - basically too much protein makes digestion more difficult. Then your body would spend a lot of energy digesting the protein you consume and the chemicals that are used for digesting the proteins would be "low" which is also important for digesting the fatty layer of the cancer cells - making immune cells unable to penetrate those cells to destroy them. Some proteins also act as a perfect environment for cancer cell growth and division. One have to be careful. The key is the maintaining the homeostasis of the body - too much of something disrupts it. As with any chronic illnesses, disruption of homeostasis in a long term leads to certain pathologies (e.g., cancer, disease of the bones). Just think of the body as a whole not as an individual organ. Added on May 2, 2011, 11:49 am QUOTE(leaderfrontier @ May 2 2011, 10:43 AM) Nop yet,but soon. You should see the doctor about your condition poor guy. Milo won't make you underweight. Anyway, everyday morning, just drink a cup of Milo,do this contribute to underweight? Was it like that since you were born, or has it happened just recently? This post has been edited by Angela Lee: May 2 2011, 11:49 AM |

QUOTE(leaderfrontier @ May 2 2011, 11:05 AM) Actually,it did not happened suddenly, maybe I should sad:The rate of weight increase per year is low If you are still growing, your weight should go up steadily. Otherwise your weight won't change that much. Most people have trouble losing weight; I guess you are a lucky one having difficulty gaining weight You just need to make sure that your body has enough energy to keep you going, then you should do fine |

hmmm, if weight aren't increasing, check if you have apetite. If your apetite is big and yet no weight gain and you gobble down a lot of food, then you might have tape worm or your metabolism could be very high.

But anyway,do you have any idea on gaining weight? The body doesn't change simply as we wish! An only successful method which I have witnessed is to do regular exercise and eat well. But this can take up to 6 months to change. The body tends to "want" to get bigger and stronger when you exercise. Your food intake will be naturally higher as well. Have you tried doing regular exercise? |

QUOTE(leaderfrontier @ May 2 2011, 12:37 PM) Certainly!! It helps a lot. Because your muscle cells need to acquire the energy to function for a greater demand through your physical activity. Physical activity is the only direct way to help you gain muscle and body mass, but of course, this has to accompany proper diet and nutrition (e.g., good protein) :-) it makes you good looking! |
