Championes, championes, oh eh oh eh oh eh! rclxm9.gif Thank you very much!

Yes, our Easter monday match was live on sky sports so I'm not surprised they showed the highlights on sky news! Unfortunately, I got my internet back right After full time so I couldn't stream it sad.gif

Haven't seen the highlights yet, so I'll take your word for it. In all honesty who cares?! We're champions!

Apparently my neighbourhood just got unifi. Since I'm so sick of streamyx I'm probably going to give them a go (although I hear they are also run by TM and not very reliable). This means I get their TV service too, right? I'll let you guys know how it compares to astro if I do get it.

But people..we have to be careful for what we wish for..when we start crying out loud in anger for another provider to carry sports such as football and EPL, u should have a proper and strategic plan that benefits the consumer..what most people dont realise is that competition for astro and their exclusive rights could burden the consumer even more..

I have said this time and time again an Im sure most of u already have heard this before..but having two providers could make u pay double for what u want..again I take Singapore for example..they have 2 providers and in recent years, the rights for the EPL have changed hands on numerous occasions..and look what has happened now..u pay one provider for the EPL and u pay another provider for other football leagues and also sports..football fans would hate this..u pay Astro to watch EPL then u also need to pay TM to watch Champions League..

n im not only talking about sports..other examples are already happening now in Malaysia between Astro and TM..some people pay Astro for a content or channel they like there but they also pay TM for something they like there..and how much would that cost u? So do u really think 2 providers is the ultimate answer? Hell no..

People here blame Astro for having exclusive rights to this and that..at the same time people are saying TM should do this and that so that Astro will go bankrupt..how certain are u that TM wont do the monopoly business like Astro are doing once they acquire exclusive rights..? How certain are u those rights acquired wont lead to a price increase..?

My point is, with these 2 business empires and money sucking moguls at play with the gov backing, there is no guarantee that we the consumer will be the beneficiary of having 2 providers and so on..the only thing that could start the wind of change is for the 2 providers to have the same content and rights..and then its up to them to fix the best price that can outdo their rivals..this way, its up to the consumers to pick which provider gives u the best content, package and price without having to worry about the content the other provider has..this would also stop the need for consumers to pay for two providers for content they wish to see..

will this happen? Not likely unless someone from the government actually 'fights' for the 'rights' of the rakyat..until then, we will continue to bow down to both TM and Astro's business masterplan..
*
That's the stupid thing about exclusive rights. Ideally, exclusive rights should be banned so firms can't use them to "force" people to subscribe to their service. If any firm can buy the (non-exclusive) rights to say the EPL, consumers couldn't be held to ransom with ridiculous prices as they would just jump ship and enjoy the same content.

However, I highly doubt that would ever happen... sad.gif

of course..because u still have the normal Byond decoder..but if the astro installer already come and installed the PVR decoder and still cannot use the functions, call them to activate it..

and Im sure u have to pay RM300 rite for the new PVRdecoder..?
*
I swapped my astro max box for it for free. They called me up asking me if I wanted to do it. The only thing is now I have two HD STBs in the house (not that its a bad thing)!

But yes, I think it is MYR300 for the box if you're swapping a normal (non-max) box for it.

A bit off-topic. Anyone remember these? tongue.gif :

On their FAQ it says

"New HD channels and more to come
Discovery World HD, Sundance HD, a Sports HD channel and more movies in HD ".

Does that mean a new HD movie channel?

Did you experience any issue when you power on your B.yond PVR? No
Astro installer also told me not to power off the B.yond PVR. Ignore him

Anyone know what is the reason not to power off the B.yond PVR? There isn't one

It possible if NTV7 is a satellite channel but imposibble if it is a FTA channel

Terrestrial channels in the UK have removable subtitles...although that might be for people with digital FTA terrestrial boxes (which is pretty much everyone now).

Hi all,

For those who had the dilemma of connecting Astro B.yond's coaxial digital out to their receiver that only support optical (Toslink), like I had before...
Just purchase this little device that will convert from coaxial to optical, so no more headache whether to change your receiver.  laugh.gif

Coaxial to Optical Digital Audio Converter

This device even come with DC adapter (support 110~240V AC).
It worked as advertised, but you will need a Toslink cable and a Coaxial cable to connect it.  smile.gif

EDIT: I bought this from Amazon, I don't know if I am allowed to add the link here.
But for those who are interest, just do a search at Amazon.
I bought it for USD17.81

Opps... you also need a US -> UK plug converter...  laugh.gif

Is it really worth getting one of these for surround sound? My 5 speaker system has an optical-in port but I don't really know if its worth getting that box, especially as it needs its own power supply. I've just set my speakers to "intelligent" mode so it kind of creates its own surround sound from the stereo input.

---

One other thing, where can I buy an optical cable (pref. less than 4')? I've looked all through harvey-norman, ace hardware and the electronics section of jusco and no one working there seems to have a clue what an optical cable is. I managed to find one on my own in ace, but it was 12' long and about myr120 so i didn't bother.

How old is your cable? When you first getting Byond set your cable should be changed to new one.
*
One of my two cables is 11 years old. I wasn't asked if I wanted it changed. It works fine anyhow.

Thanks for the info..and thank God Astro picked 833 as the number instead of ch830..would have been stupid to have ASSP HD on ch831 and ASSP HD on ch830..
*
Agree. It would make even more sense though to have ASSP 1 HD on 831 and ASSP 2 HD on 832. Maybe they should move ESPN HD up a few channels (maybe to 835 or something) to leave space for additional ASSP channels hmm.gif .

We are just nit picking now though. The more channels the merrier, regardless of their channel number!

What does annoy me though is having the astro first channels in between the movie and the news channels. I often flick through all the channels from the movies up to sports when looking for something to watch and its annoying to have 10 or so annoying channels in the middle. Is there any way I can hide them perhaps?

WHat would you sports fans think of having these two channels? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GOALTV

My (Brighton supporting) mate south of the border has just subscribed to them as they show Championship (English Div2) matches live! Oh, how I envy him.

They do show some programmes from the channel on astro super sport though I think.

---

Apparently Astro could get the two channels quite easily http://www.abu.org.my/abu/index.cfm/elemen...-deal-of-GOALTV
