haha.. then i dont bother sending them back the letter and start spending.  rclxms.gif

im using gold, CS number is 1300886688

why?  shocking.gif
*
because I got mine via postlaju and as for number behind the card to update my post on CS numbers in my blog, but that number is already stated as MBB General CS line because I remembered that I commented that 886688 very nice.

Hi Gen-X, the number I see on my MBB card is: 1800-88-1801. You mentioned in your blog that you "found that American Express Customer Service to be second to none." So in another word, I can call the AMEX number as well for the MBB card?
*
Yes, you can for Maybankard 2 Amex - 1800889559. But FYI, some of the Amex CS have been transferred to MBB and vice versa. But I still find AMEX CS "better" even if I press 2 for Gold Card.

QUOTE(alexwsk @ Mar 8 2011, 10:36 PM)
hmm.gif , my previous AMEX Gold CC has the silver stripe as well

mine too, issued in 2009. The two that got excited over the strip is new to AMEX, hahaha

I did ask MB and Citi for temporary CL increase before but failed to get the increase for my Citi card.

The CS told me my CL is already hit the limit for the type of card that I am holding. I can't accept it and wrote a complaint to the bank. Got a response saying that they will investigate the matter. Until now, more than 6 months, still no reply from them.

MB is more straightforward. Got the increase that I wanted without hassle.

Is it possible for Classic card to be given a permanent CL of a Gold card?
*
it might be true. In the case on Clear Card, the max CL is RM30. Click on my link below, there a table from RHB stating Minimum and Max CL. For RHB, Classic card maximum CL RM8K.

Thank you. Aiyah the posting dates different for Amex and Visa/MC.

Card Type, Transaction Date, Posting Date and conversion rate (round up to 4 decimal)

MBB 2 Visa, 4/3, 6/3, 0.1044
AMEX 2, 4/3, 5/3, 0.1055
Diff 1.05%
With 5X points MBB 2 AMEX still better because you get about 2% difference in terms of voucher; thus actual diff about 1%

MBB 2 Visa, 6/3, 8/3, 0.1043
AMEX 2, 6/3, 7/3, 0.1055
Diff 1.15%
With 5X points MBB 2 AMEX still better because you get about 2% difference in terms of voucher

How about MBB Plat and MBB WMC?
With 5X points MBB 2 AMEX still better than MBB Plat 2XTP because in terms of voucher diff 1.5%, so you gain about 0.5% with MBB 2 AMEX.
With MBB WMC, MBB 2 AMEX can go fly kite, hahaha.

like zenquix mentioned, you want save money upfront or wait until you redeem voucher and gain a more? I will go with my MBB Plat and get lower conversion rate upfront.

MBB 2 Visa, 4/3, 6/3, 0.1044
CIMB MC, 4/3, 6/3, 0.1052
Diff 0.766%
No brainer, use MBB2 Visa unless you got CIMB WMC where it gives you 2X points or CIMB VI where it gives you 1% upfront for overseas making the diff about 0.3% only.

Many thanks for the round-up Gen-X.
Many places in Taiwan do not accept AMEX however and some places accept Visa only, not even MasterCard!
Conclusion, I would still go with MBBKard 2 Visa as 1% actual difference is a small price to pay for the inconvenience of exchanging vouchers with TP and compelling you to shop at a specific merchant by a certain deadline. Besides, when you utilise the voucher gained through exchange with TP, you further 'lose out' the potential 5x points that you can get with AMEX. Only exception for MBBKard 2 Amex usage overseas for me is weekend spend with AMEX, if you have yet to achieve the RM50 max cashback.

Speaking of vouchers, I think someone mentioned purchasing Guardian vouchers (available in RM10 denomination) during the (now concluded) AMEX 15% cashback campaign or on Sunday for DA's 5% rebate. Gonna purchase the Guardian/eligible supermarket vouchers on Sunday so that I won't be restricted to getting the DA 5% rebate for spending on Sunday.
*
You are the person that deserved to be thanked for taking the trouble to go use your cards and post it here.
However must note, if you use Maybankard 2 Amex on weekend and amount less than RM1K, Maybankard 2 Amex better than any other card with 7.5% returns.
Excellent idea on getting the Guardian voucher on a Sunday with DA if you do spend RM1K with MBB 2 Amex.

Also, for comparison with credit card exchange rate purposes, I did withdraw NT$3,000.00 on 7/3/2011 through my UOB Debit MasterCard via Cirrus-linked ATM as I only had RM and AUS$ currency notes with me which could only be exchanged at the Bank of Taiwan, which location was not convenient doh.gif  RM12 service charge was worth it, considering that money changers/bank imposes NT$30 flat commission fee and also transportation costs.
*
Yeap, I agree with you on UOB Debit Card for withdrawal of cash. When I used it in 2009 in US, the exchange rate was the same as the one quoted in the internet but there is a RM12 admin fee which works out to be 1.2% for every RM1000K withdrawal. Withdraw RM500 and the rate becomes 2.4%.

click below link to see my table prepared in 2009 for various transactions with various credit cards vs UOB Debit card where the conversion was 1:1. UOB Debit card rate the best without considering the RM12 fee. To note that Alliance rate no longer competitive as of date.

Pity Gen-X for having to answer the question so many times and finally he writes them up in a blog! (I still admire that effort .... I read the blog too)

The thing is LYN forum is a great place for info when I want to buy something, but it can take me hours to read all the posts in a particular thread e.g. I want to buy a particular Plasma TV so I go to thread on LCD/Plasma and read like page 1 to page 80 and it takes me hours. Some of the post not even related to the topic like what I am doing now.

Then for example, wshoh mentioned about UOB Debit Card above, with my post at my blog, it is so easy for me to find the info and just paste the link here. And if you read my latest post on Fortune card, I just copied some of my comments here and post in at my blog instead of me going to look for it when we are in V88 when someone ask about it. So I can understand why some come and post and want quick answer on a particular CC, and that's where my post in my blog comes in. What I cannot tahan is the same person asking same question over and over again.

Maybe LYN should start an entire section or sub-section just for CC and we can then have a topic for each credit card like in Phone section where each phone has its own thread. Any Mod reading this?

Of course, I do most of my propriety research here at LYN and learn from everyone's posts here and put in wrtting to share with all Malaysians. So here I go again

Today, I received a letter titled A Gift for You from Maybank. Well, it is the pre-approved Gold MB 2 Visa+Amex cards.
In the letter says I need to fill up an application from and submit a copy of my ID  when collecting the cards at the designated branch. I want to know if any of you have collected your pre-approved MB2 cards. Share with me if you need to fill up the form, etc.

The card accounts have auto-registered with my MB2U. Will I be charged the GST if I don't collect them? Actually, I am not interested with the cards because I am planning to apply for Platinum MB 2 Master next month.

Is the card shown already in M2U? Your gift did not state free GST waiver like others?

18th Feb 2011- Applied via fax. No call from them.

4th Mar 2011- I called the CS to check on my status and was notified that signature and supp applicant ic were missing. re-faxed on the spot.

7th Mar 2011- Called CS. Was told that they still not receiving the missing documents. This time I scanned and emailed.

8th Mar 2011- Called CS. Was told that they actually want a clear copy of my IC. Scanned and emailed again on the spot.  sad.gif

8th Mar 2011 - Received a call 1 hour after I emailed my IC that they still short of a supplementary application form. Download, fill up, scanned and email to them. mad.gif

Walauu.. they gave me wrong info and requested documents one at a time.  vmad.gif

9th Mar 2011- Received call from CS around 4.11pm that my MBB2Amex cards was approved and will be courier out latest this Friday (11th Mar 2011).
Lesson learned:

1) Don't use fax submission. Because the processing people can't see the IC and CC clearly and documents went missing.
2) Scanned and email is the fastest and most effective.  But I always have reservation and uncomfortable of leaving a copy of my IC image file stored in a public server.   sweat.gif
*
odd that they did not call you after you fax. Well, after the 4th, only 6 days to get approved, good what. Lesson - follow up after a week after you submit application and kiasu call back CS frequently to check (get CS name and follow up with same CS best). For those who want to check, call Toll Free 1800 88 9559.

may i know wat is this meaning 3% and 2 %

Revolvers (pay min or partial)
•3% rebate, capped at RM50 rebate per card per month.

Transactors (pay in full)
•2% rebate, capped at RM20 rebate per card per month
*
revolving credit means you use the credit i.e. you don't settle in full. No point because instead of getting some thing in return, you working for the bank paying them interest.

just pay in full and get 2% cash back

hmmm i read about the Ambank Carz Card.

Plat is not too bad:

AmBank CARz Platinum MasterCard
Revolvers (pay min or partial)
•5% rebate, capped at RM80 rebate per card per month.

I am considering this - IF I can be a revolver if i pay full oustanding less 1 sen. that would be considered a partial payment right that would cause minimal fees but pays out 5% (3% extra) max 80*12 = 960 RM p.a.

Need to check with Ambank tomorrow. If can then this would be pretty great as a pump petrol only card.

Edit: I am stupid - paying all but 1 sen would mean Finance Free period is also not applicable right? How does this work then? I never had any credit card debt before. I just use it as a free credit tool. Would it make sense to persue this stream of thought or will the finance charges cancel out the benefits?
*
You are right, you are stupid IF you don't pay in full as you'll be utilizing the revolving credit and pay interest on new transactions. That's what greed does to you, hahaha Just do as you always have been, don't have credit card debt.

To all: Most important thing as far as credit card is concerned - always pay in full before Due Date to avoid any interest and penalty charges to you account. As PJusa said, use it as FREE credit tool.

QUOTE(PJusa @ Mar 11 2011, 12:02 AM)
With regards to the Ambank Carz thing - correct me if i am wrong

Assuming you pump petrol for 1600 uniformly spread over the month to maximise the 80 RM and pay in full less 1 sen and with a clean payment record i pay 11.85% interest on the 1600 RM because i dont have the 20 interest free days. (i will omit the 1sen outstanding)

evenly spread means i have to pay interest for 20 days on RM 800 (11,85%/365*20 = 0,65% interest). i then have to pay RM 5,20 in finance charges right?

so i have to pay RM 5,20 to gain RM 60 - profit RM 54,80

would this calculation be correct? if so then being a revolver isnt too bad.
*
Wah, still thinking of Ambank Carz card ar?

First of all since you don't have the card yet, your interest charges is 17.5% being a new card holder.

Secondly, the 20 days interest free is only applicable if you don't have a single sen outstanding balance and this period mentioned is between Statement Date and Payment Due Date.

Like zenquix said, it has escalating effect. Once you have outstanding balance, the 20 days interest free period is no longer applicable and interest will be imposed onto your previous transactions and new transactions immediately until payment in full is made (for new transactions can be up to 50 days or more until next payment Due Date) but new interest charges after Statement Date not reflected in statement so if you only pay what is stated in the Statement, you still utilizing the credit and interest still imposed and it just continue until you settle every single sen.

I know you are posting merely for discussion but and many greedy people may read your post thinking they be making money and just follow what you say without studying the matter further unlike you. You yourself I believe have been using CC for long time but don't understand how interest is charged.

You may be right, if you use the card just for petrol, you may make a "profit" from making use of the credit to gain the RM80 or whatever but you should deduct RM20 (max rebate if settle in full) to see final gain (or loss).

The only reason why AMbank Carz card was mentioned in the first place was because beyond wanted to know what card gives points for people who can only qualify based on annual income for RM24K. If this card was so good, everybody would be rushing to get it. The smart ones here go for MBB Dua tongue.gif

If you want more rebate for petrol, you and your wife (if applicable) can get principal cards from OCBC Titanium and also Maybankard 2 Amex and with 4 cards, you can get RM200 a month cash back plus 5X TP with MBB Dua.

To add - assuming you use CC for petrol only. Best combination MBB 2 Amex (2.5% + 5%) + Esso Smiles (1.5%) = 9% thumbup.gif

Gen-X,

thanks for the info. if i assume i spread the amount evenly over 50 days and use it solely for petrol i pay around 13 RM interest. keeping the 20 RM i could get anyway in mind you could gain something like RM 47. if you add the 20 RM then you can get 67 RM per month from the card which is slightly more than the normal 50 RM cap. probably not worth the effort though. i guess its easier to use MBB 2 instead.

i was just really just curious about the revolving issue since i have never seen an offer like that before. personally i never used the credit line offered by the cards before (as mentioned) so i never had to bother about how the finance charges work. using cc with debt never was an option so there was no need to bother about it at all. i just found the offer from ambank enticing and wanted to see if a cardholder *could* actually benefit from this 5% offer if the card is used "properly".

the suggestion for esso sounds great. shall see how much petrol we really pump per month to calculate. other spending is well taken care of with alliance bank and ocbc titanium.

sidenote: i seriously wish the banks would stop put a ceiling on the cash back amount. it would make my life a lot easier (and i would not have such a hard time remembering when the rebate is maxed out) and profitable to the issuing bank who gets all the spending (are you listening alliance bank??).

Just like I said, I know you posting for discussion purposes but this thread is unlike other threads in this section where forumers do actually discuss in detail about pros and cons on a particular subject. Many who come here are noob and don't bother to check further when someone post a reply. And when people like hye and me point out a fact, they think we flaming them doh.gif

Maybe hye and myself must learn how to be less direct and be less helpful and learn how to use notworthy.gif when we don't mean it, haha. JK

There are cards that have unlimited cash back like SCB Plat Business, HLB Fortune, OCBC platinum, CIMB VI and many debit cards but the cash back for general transactions is 1% or less. I use to use my AMEX Gold Charged Card a lot where I get 3X MR with turbo (= 1.5% cash back) for whatever transaction BUT with MBB 2 AMEX 5X TP, the charge card can put in drawer.

Since boon is back, can you like look into my suggestion where we can have a sub-section like Stocks where we can have a thread for a specific card and from there we can discuss the pro and cons in detail. E.g. would be great for OCBC Titanium where ronnie can list all the places he visit giving 1% or 5%; thread for overseas transactions; thread on pay pal; thread on free movie tickets; thread on travel insurance; thread on forever ending question on CL and etc.

This is a great tip, thanks  rclxms.gif  Just realised PayPal option for the above!
Exactly what I am going to do now for my Maxis bill  thumbup.gif  Had planned to pay with my MBBKard 2 Amex on weekend at Maxis KLCC and now I can do it from the comfort of my home/office/anywhere, anytime during the weekend to enjoy the 5% rebate! If only the payment could be set to a future date (like online banking), it would be perfect! Just created a Maxis-PayPal account smile.gif

[B]BTW, for those GSC fans who do not hold a CIMB/DA Visa premium card but have an UOB Debit MasterCard, do note that you do enjoy 5% SmartCash rebate.

In addition, I reiterate my earlier suggestion (with modifications) in v14 CC thread:

1. (a) Add to title: "Please read the 1st post AND Gen-X's blog before posting".
(b) To also consider adding Credit Card payment methods. Since most people look forward to saving money, perhaps IBG as a payment option can be highlighted.

2. Reserve the 2nd post of Credit Card v16 for FAQs.

3. Suggested card for 1st time CC applicants with Degree: DA (Direct Access @ CIMB) (apart from OCBC Titanium MasterCard and MBBKard 2).

*
Yah, we can learn a lot too as in the example of pay pal + AMEX and thank you for highlighting UOB Debit Card.

And you are absolutely right on earlier about payment using online. Wanted to pay my MBB CC bills yesterday bit the stupid cheque deposit machine can only input 1 account number whereas I wrote the cheque for multiple accounts. Today wrote 3 different cheque but the machine offline! Thinking of using online to pay MBB credit cards since I have 6 accounts with them.

Maybe the section should be Titled Credit Debit, Charge and Reward Cards where we can talk about all types of cards that benefit us.

As for adding read Gen-X post first to title, thank you but not appropriate. Good enough that link to my blog is posted in first page. But if got got sub-section, then I can have my own thread listing my posts, haha if approved by Mod lah.

As for Degree holder, I suggest go for CIMB instead of DA, because some merchants don't know DA=CIMB. Got to tell them see behind of card.

Hi Gen X,

So in short, when v go overseas, which 1 is worth to use? amex or visa/master?
*
I already mentioned based on zenquix's and wshoh's transactions, MBB 2 AMEX better when considering the returns in voucher but you have to pay upfront. Those of us who use the card for personal expenses would rather go with MBB Visa/MC to enjoy the lower conversion rate. However if you are using the card overseas on a weekend and spending less than RM1K and assuming you will benefit from the 5% cash back, then MBB 2 Amex better. Actually I am just about to finish my article on this for my blog and should post it tomorrow.

Do you ever read your statements or look behind your card where to the CS number is stated? Anyway, click below link for most credit cards CS contact numbers.

As for installment plan, I guess you asking about CIMB i-plan, when youcall CS tell them you want to convert your transaction amounting to RMXXX on DD/MM/YY to installment and they will check if your transaction is in the sydtem and if yes they will convert it for you. And you have to do it before your statement date.

Sorry I overlooked it as I'm not always in this topic.
Maybe you can request it at front desk and see how many people supports the idea.

The idea of finance, business and investment section is actually meant more towards finance. But seeing how the credit card community grow, maybe we could have one if the admin agrees.

So pls post in front desk for the admin to consider.

According to the CS, now the policy had changed and it can be used for non-halal transactions (such as non-halal section in supermarkets, alcohol etc) except gambling purposes (like casinos).
