15mil for a proven, consistent performer for the past 2 seasons in english leagues over 20mil for a rated-but-yet-to-be-proven player, i'll take the safer route. and jose enrique did provide the width and the crosses for carroll while he's with Newcastle, so the chemistry between them is already there. that in itself is already an added bonus for signing him.  smile.gif

he's on his last year of contract..to pay 15m is surely overprice..yup he's a good proven EPL player..6-8m would be a good price rolleyes.gif

I'm not sure Jose Enrique was that good to be worth $15M, I rated him to be inside the range of $8M-$10M, don't forget hes not english. I agree with leftist, with just $5M topup, we can get a world class left back.

Under KD, Liv win against the top league team, MU, Chelsea, ManCity,
and those game, all deserved to win one based on performance.

Next game is Arsenal.

change it to Rafa also can already. laugh.gif
Truth is, we're always coming out good against those "top teams" but sub-par against "lower" teams.

IMHO as a newcastle fan, 15 mil is worth for jose, AC Milan bid him 13 mil. He can defend and attack at the same time.Good composure and dribbling. If you watch Jose playing, you would know what i'm saying. Maybe you can watch him when NUFC vs Man Utd next week.

he still 25 and has lot of future. He is our best player but as a fan i respect his decision just like carroll. smile.gif

Darn, first game I missed in a long time and we kicked ass. Too much booze *urgh*. No replay after work either.

I'm glad that Carroll has finally opened his account. It must have been a sigh of relief for him, beginning to justify his hefty price tag. Been a fan of Carroll since the season started and I'm convinced he is a good acquisition despite what we paid for him. When fully fit, he is a handful for any defender. I'm also happy to see more and more lads from the Academy get a start, the latest being John Flanaghan. So far this season, we've given starts to Kelly, Shelvey, Wilson, Flanaghan and Spearing in the Premier League. When was the last time so we gave so many of the young lads the opportunity?

Jose Enrique? I just think that we need more marquee signings if we are to prove that we are seriously thinking of challenging for the title. I don't mean big egos with big reputations but players who have proven themselves on the bigger stage. No disrespect to Enrique but he's hardly made any waves since signing for Newcastle some 4 seasons ago. The fact that we have virtually no competition in our bid to secure him tells me that not many rate the lad. Oh well, let's hope he turns out to be an uncut diamond. At 25, he's still relatively young.

On a totally unrelated note, since when did posters start using the term, "butthurt"? What exactly is it applied? Sounds like someone got sodomised if you ask me. Posters seem to apply it to various scenarios. You give someone a word, and they'll toss it in whenever they like. Just like how still don't understand how to use "The Kop" correctly. Seems to be the word of the day though, since so many are using it.

Good to hear that. Thanks for the review. I must admit I don't get to watch him much but I'll start paying attention now. I hear he is a good, strong tackler as well. Nice to see that you aren't anti-Carroll like some of your mates were. I still think it was Mike Ashley's decision to cash in on him. Don't think Carroll would leave unless there was a very strong reason to. He's Geordie through and through just like Shearer was.

If a full back worth 20 mil, Carroll 35 mil seems a bargain now.

EPL players price tag is becoming higher and higher.

Unlucky Suarez not to score but I am amazed by the link up between Suarez-Kuyt-Carrol-Meireles.... Great link up and understanding.

On another note, I am amazed Aurelio didn't break his own leg when he went in on Adam Johnson in the game... Ouch tongue.gif

Saw 2nd half of the game, missed all the goals sad.gif. Here's what I think.

I think we outplayed City in all positions. All the players in red played their hearts out.

Spearing + Lucas, controlled the middle of the park. As usual, Lucas has been consistent with breaking down opponent's attacks and play a simple pass to Kuyt or Meireles to start the attack. Spearing did well. Although small, he did some well timed tackles and challenged Yaya Toure in a few occasions for the ball.

Skrtel + Carra, calm and composed. With Spearing and Lucas covering them, there's nothing much left for them to do. At least for the 2nd half which I saw. Carra just can't stop hoofing the ball though.

Aurelio, didn't do much really in the 2nd half. Involved in the 1st and 2nd goal if I'm not mistaken.

John Flanagan, seems pretty confident. A lot smaller than Kelly, but does overlaps with confident. Links up well with Kuyt. Good defensively as well.

Kuyt + Meireles. Meireles was playing wide on the left and links up pretty well with the front 2. Kuyt as usual, works his socks off right, up, down, centre. Both of them, however, missed a few chances in the 2nd half.

Carroll + Suarez, potentially the most feared strike partnership for next season, did well in the 2nd half. Still room for improvement in terms of understanding each other's movements. Suarez lost a bit of touch in the 2nd half. Commentator said he was way better in the 1st half. As always, no one stopped him as he dribbled into the box in a few occasions. Carroll on the other hand, was a handful for defenders. Markers seem to panic every time we have a corner. Now, finally, we're productive from corners.

Record are meant to be broken, if MU able to break the record, so be it. Our priority now is Europe, so we should focus on getting 3 points against Arsenal
*
agree. we dont intentionally play to lose as how we were purportedly to the loss last year to chelsea (so that they dont drop points on their path to the title)

we are fighting for points & a place in europe as in last season & every season the club strives.

it wont be easy to slay arsenal but liverpool believes in themselves now more than ever in entire season. so gunners got to better watch their backs tongue.gif

Let's not forget, we won the game with quite a number of our key players injured. That just make the victory sweeter biggrin.gif

Missed the match, too tired to wake up yawn.gif

Typical of liverpool, fired up for the big games so expected a win.

Anyway we should buy coentrao instead of enrique.coentrao made the highly rated sanchez in this game ineffective.

Enrique is worth it imo. Not sure we should be paying 15mil considering he has only like 1 year left on contract ? I rated him back then before he went to Newcastle and i think a lot of people were surprised when he did end up at Newcastle. I know we all want to see a world class fullback i.e. Coentrao, but realistically we have major rebuilding to do in summer. Maybe 5-10mil top up could land us a better fullback but at the same that amount of money can be used to strengthen other areas of the pitch. We need another CB, a left mid and another CM.

I think the price of players in the big three leagues have escalated dramatically. With the knowledge that big sides now have big backers, clubs will demand a small ransom for players. Case in point, Ian Holloway's $16 million pound valuation of Charlie Adam, a player they signed two seasons earlier for a mere $500,000 pounds. Oil Sheiks, Steel magnates, and other businessmen are so willing to throw money about, they hardly bother to negotiate the fee of a player. "How much you want? Ah ok lah, take and go play far far".

Well there are conspiracy theorists everywhere isn't there? We lost intentionally to Chelsea and there were even some serious suggestions that Carra deliberately went in on Nani, hoping that he'd be crocked for the rest of the season, therefore derailing the championship aspirations of them mancs. People will find any reason to blame someone other than themselves.

I have to admit that since we have nothing to play for, I'm tempted to harbour thoughts of doing everything possible to prevent the mancs from winning no.19, even if it means losing to a title contender. In the end though, we should focus on ourselves. We cannot help that our rivals are winning titles. We cannot help that they will surpass our proud achievement but we can improve our own fortunes. It will be a bitter pill to swallow should the mancs win the Premiership this season. Heck, they even looks odds on to do the treble. If it does happen though, a huge weight will be lifted off our shoulders. We don't have to keep looking behind us anymore, waiting for the day them mancs will catch up and eventually overtake us.
