QUOTE(Duke Red @ Mar 21 2011, 11:59 AM)
Not the best of performances last night but in the end it's 3 points in the bag and given that this is only Sunderland's 4th home loss the whole season, it is some achievement. If Dalglish's track record is anything to go by, we would be 2nd in the table had he been in charge from the beginning of the season. His record since taking over is on par with Arsenal's. Despite some of the negativity I've seen being thrown around in there especially after the losses to West Ham and Braga, there is a lot to be optimistic about.

Were we lucky last night? Lucky to get the penalty? Hell yeah. Kevin Frend got it right and his assistant got it wrong, it was clear as day. Were we lucky to win? Not if you ask me. Sunderland did have a lot of possession but does anyone remember Reina making a save? We created the best chances of the match despite Sunderland having more of the ball. Carroll won everything in the air but his touch on the ground was a little heavy. Possibly a symptom from being out injured for so long. Super bit of work from Suarez. He saw that Mignolet had shifted his body weight to the right anticipation the ball to be played across goal, and instinctively poked the ball in the near post.
*
Ya, yesterday is not a good performance, but barely done enough to win the game, my opinion.

When saw the live game time, I don't know how on earth, the ball can go into the net. When I saw Suarez cut inside and go on byline, I taught this is impossible angle to score, need to cut back and pass to someone else if not would be crowede out, boom, come from nowhere, ball inside the net.

Next game is away to West Brom where the players will be greeted by their former boss! Spurs will be away to Wigan.

If things go our way at the Hawthorns, we could end up right behind Spurs next weekend!

Spurs still got to play Arsenal (H), Chelsea (A), pay a visit to Anfield and then play Man City (A).  It will be a very tough fight to get 5th, but it certainly is not impossible..
*
If Liv can string some consecutive win in the rest 8 games, even CL also possible.
8 points difference to catch up.

Although personally don't expect Liv to be in Europe next season, you cannot rule out until mathematically impossible.

Under KD, Liv managed to get 14 points out of 18 before.

Liv will be facing both Spurs and ManCity.

Steve Clarke has confirmed that Liverpool hope to have Steven Gerrard,
Martin Kelly, Fabio Aurelio and Jonjo Shelvey back in full training next week.

Aurelio got good cross, can put in in swinger cross, which defender generally has difficult time for such a cross, perfect match for Carroll aerial ability to score goal.

No offense but kygriakos has caused us the defeat.

This is true.

2 huge mistake, 2 penalty, 2-1.
End of story.

sry lads west brom definitely deserved the win....they control the ball, the possession, well abit from the ref but no doubt the penalty is justified..well a bad day for us.....
*
2 penalties -> 2 goals come from individual error.

Rule of thumb for CB, never let the ball bounce. This is the most basic.

Poor display.

I taught when Skrtel scored, can grind out result with poor display.
But shocking defending that lead to penalties is hugely disappointed, no wonder Reina feel angry about it.

No need to blame the ref, deserved the beating with this kind of display.

Spearing is not a creativity midfielder, so does Lucas + no width from midfield, no overlapping from fullback + individual error on penalty sum up the day.

not trying to be a genius here but i find that we are resorting to Route 1 again ?

how come during the 1st 25 mins of the game we were trying Route 1 and it was obvious it didnt work and made Suarez 'lonely'. Why didnt we change tactics and play the ball on the ground ?

it you wanted to cross the ball to A.C i can understand but like all way from defence and hoofing it up ....
*
Simple answer, yesterday match very obvious miss the playmaker.
In midfield area, you need one player that can dictate the game, sending pass, organise the midfield area.

So need to by pass the midfield

actually, it's not that Liverpool is jinx with bottom clubs but during this time of season, Liverpool happened to encounter relegation battler clubs which fighting for survival in EPL. it is not a surprise to see they work their socks of every match. it is always tough to win against Relegation battler clubs.
*
Actually, Liv away record is quite poor this season.
And most of the away match has poor performance.

That's like being over optimist and the odds of it happening is freaking low...a bit unrealistic me think..
*
Only if Liv can get full point or close to full point out of remaining 7 matches, aka 21 points, then may be have some slim chance.
Mancity is 11 points ahead for 4th place. So in order to achieve it, Liv needs to get full points, while Mancity get less than 10 points from 7 matches, Spurs get less than 13 points from 7 matches.

The odd is quite low, as you needs 3 extreme condition to set in for this to happen.

5th place has some slim hope, but I don't see currently the team is able to do it.
It has been on off on off form from Liv.

Under KD, Liv win against the top league team, MU, Chelsea, ManCity,
and those game, all deserved to win one based on performance.

Next game is Arsenal.

QUOTE(Duke Red @ Apr 12 2011, 01:29 PM)
I'm glad that Carroll has finally opened his account. It must have been a sigh of relief for him, beginning to justify his hefty price tag. Been a fan of Carroll since the season started and I'm convinced he is a good acquisition despite what we paid for him. When fully fit, he is a handful for any defender. I'm also happy to see more and more lads from the Academy get a start, the latest being John Flanaghan. So far this season, we've given starts to Kelly, Shelvey, Wilson, Flanaghan and Spearing in the Premier League. When was the last time so we gave so many of the young lads the opportunity?

*
If a full back worth 20 mil, Carroll 35 mil seems a bargain now.

EPL players price tag is becoming higher and higher.

I much rather Insua than Warnock. Insua, Aurelio and a new LB signing in a rotation system is good enough i reckon.
*
My view.
Aurelio is preferred due to his crosses.
Has good freekick and corner delivery, Liv currently lack of personnel that can send it in swing cross to feed Carroll and utilise the best out of Carroll aerial ability.

I think the coming summer, the priority is CM, aka a playmaker that can dictate the game.
Carroll, Suarez, and Kuyt or Miereles as backup striker/AM is decent enough.

If Gerrard is injured, only left Spearing and Lucas.

Harry Redknapp is spot on and raise concern about the fixture implication on Liv vs Spurs + Stoke vs ManCity in league game.

http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story/_/...e-moved?cc=4716
QUOTE
new rule brought in with the Europa League in 2009 states that FA Cup runners-up only qualify for Europe if the FA Cup winners will play in the Champions League in the following season. That means if Man City win the FA Cup and finish fifth in the league, thus qualifying for the Europa League, the final Europa place will go to the sixth-placed team in the Premier League.

With Stoke and Man City due to line up again just three days after the Wembley showpiece, it would be in Stoke's interests to lose the league game if they have also lost in the Cup final. By losing to City in the league, they could help them finish in the Champions League places, which would put the Potters in the Europa League.

And Redknapp is concerned that could impact on his own club's hopes of booking a Champions League return as they sit three points behind Man City with a game in hand.

But while Redknapp wants that game moved, his own team will play Liverpool just 24 hours after the Cup final - and it could be in Liverpool's interests to lose to Spurs to make sure Man City stay out of the top four and give themselves a chance of Europa League football by finishing sixth.

Redknapp said: "I think they should look at it. The chairman spoke to me last night about it. We feel it should be changed - but it's a bit out of my hands.''

For sure, a good crosser is high on priority list in the summer.

Classic goal with Carrol strength like 2nd Carroll goal against Mancity.
Indefendable.

You just need put up some good cross, Carrol aerial ability doing the rest.

Lucas and Spearing is good if you need workrate, spoil opponent rhythm in those tight match, typically against strong team like Chelsea, MU, but you need playmaker, flair players to destroy opponent with ease against lower league team.
It is consistent win or 3 points against lower league team, that win you league title, or better league position. Against strong team, a win is like a bonus. Bread and butter is against those lower league team with 3 points week in week out.

Joey Barton is one crazy mother f*cker. Heard he torched someone's eye with a cigarette.

Liverpool lacks creativity and playmakers. Our defense look a lot more solid day by day. I reckon midfielders and wingers are needed.
*
Winger is rare breed nowadays, you don't find many winger type of players, mostly converted from CM, AM or supporting striker type one.

Anfield become a fortress again. thumbup.gif

Since KD took over, Liv points tally is second best behind MU only, if not mistaken.

Really cannot believe, from bottom2, now has every chance to be 5th.

I noticed that lately a number of goals Liv scored involved always involved Suarez during build up or due to his assist.
Without any recognised playmaker in the team, he is the one lead the attacking line.
