Haha...they have reason for the UAC and user have reason to enable or disable it.

i think it would not pose too much of a danger to normal user, if he wants to disable UAC. As long as he has updated AV, Windows Defender, firewall, that should do the job quite well in safeguarding the pc

but dont use IE7 when u turn off UAC, no UAC = unprotected IE7

doh.gif i thought the UAC is the UAC from Doom 3. anyway, im still using XP here.

allright,,, UAC dosen't allow firefox to install plugin. dosent allow primo pft to write file. etc......

maybe not purposely, but do make life hard for not so computer literate users.......

i still keep with my statement

" Stupid UAC "
*
Somehow, i agree on that with you.
Anyways, I thought IE7 goes into sandbox mode with or without UAC?

What UAC will do actually ?
lets say a keylogger program, or a virus from a pendrive want to install itself on autorun, will UAC pops up and notify the user?

Basically, for a program to run, it need to
- Run (Basicly)
- Enter it's information into the windows registery (sometimes)
- calls another procedure

UAC monitors all three, thus making sure that if anythng happens, you knows. You then has the option of agreeing to that or cancelling. This also includes programme running in background. Thus any virus that installs itself on autorun will be halted for a while. I said for a while because it's still not 100% foolproof. You also need an AV. but for trojan or worms that relies on registery editing, this is useful

From the start of beta till now, vista still makes my XP boot screen flicker. I wonder why vista would affect my XP boot screen.

Try to run it under WinXP SP2 mode, right click the shortcut of the program and u will see compatibility mode. Most of the programs i tried worked beautifully without any problems thumbup.gif
