its hard for me to explain it when your knowledge on a basics are still not strong, its going to be very confusing to you.

read up on the bolded words. there's something called focus distance, then there's hyperfocal distance, also, read up on how aperture can affect depth of field. and how lenses of different focal length can have different depth of field. slowly you will understand this. dont have to rush.. try wiki or google for those keywords 1st and try to understand as much as you can

after reading up on the keywords, then if got any doubts, do ask again.. i'll try my best to answer

i got 2 unit 1870, still using... 2 years already both. working fine. my friend using A200 for 2 years, the lens still fine.

reason of the stripping is that i notice a lot ppl open close the hood, without "release to MF" putting stress in the gear with the motor engaged.

i know bro. i had the 1870 also before and never got gear stripped for me.
depends on luck also la... haha. tongue.gif

and also what causes the gear stripped is the motor of the body (aside from human negligence).

Question, so will the focusing speed of the 70200G with the 70300G be the same if both aperatures are the same at f5.6???  hmm.gif
*
no it wont, its because when the lens is locking focus, the aperture will stay at its largest opening... the 70-200G will be wide open at 2.8 and the 70-300 will be at f/4.5.. it is after u fully press the shutter, only the apertures will close down to the set f-number ie. f/5.6

Shoot more pics and post the pics here k? Maybe you can meet up with emptyball and both of you can go out for photographic outing =) A good place to start would be the peranakan mansion if you have a model, if not then try botanical gardens or youth park, practice aperature (DOF) and shutter speed control first before proceeding to more advanced stuff =)

Hmm, how about when you lock focus (when shutter is half pressed?) Will the 70200G hunt in f2.8 and after that only it will change its aperature to lets say f5.6 after it locks focus?

locking focus still wouldnt close the aperture to the said f/5.6... its when the shutter button is fully pressed that it will stop down the aperture.

anyhow, when the shutter is already half pressed and locked, the lens will not AF anymore... unless you manually adjust it

during AF, the aperture is wide open so, even u set to F32/ the aperture closes down only when the camera about to release the shutter.

the 70200G will still be at F2.8 wide open during AF
and the 70300G will be at variable aperture base on zoom length. during AF.

yuhi, what u asked is somehow confusing.

hunt mean finding. before hunt, u have to make sure u point at something that is focus-able, something contrast-y. in AF-S and AF-A, once it lock (teet teet) it will not hunt again. the 70200G has DMF where u can turn the focus ring instantly after AF to fine tune ur focus. but not all lens has DMF, so be careful

the AF-C will continue to try to re-lock and re-lock and re-lock (without teet teet).

the aperture will not close down until u full press the shutter button.

and the DOF preview button (if u set the lens custom button to DOF preview) it will close down the aperture when u press it (u notice ur OVF gets darker too) but AF mechanism is locked out, so the camera dont really focus when the aperture close down. but on certain lens with DMF, u can fine tune focus with it. smile.gif

minolta/sony alpha AF (and other brand is the same) will not AF with lens that is darker then F6.3 (lens with manual aperture) like samyang FE or 85mm. in other words, u wont get AF confirmation for lens darker then F6.3
except for a very very special case, the minolta/sony 500mm F8 mirror reflect which still works with AF even its a F8.
