many many brands like Niro, MML, Whitehorse, Venus, Guocerra, Cotto , Feruni etc
and many china/vietnam tiles , which u should try to avoid

for 2x2, price ranges from rm 16 above for those branded tiles, where reportedly Niro is a step above than the others, and off coursethe price more exp too
china/vietnam tiles as low as rm9 above etc
u have 1x1,1x2, etc size..

your detailed opinion is very well appreciated.
thank you very much!!
will start my survey.

Was looking at some Feruni tiles yesterday at the Home Furnishing Fair. Price pretty competitive but I was told that the products are from OEM China and Vietnam.

Wonder if anybody had problems with their product before?

I find their price more expensive than Niro. Their product more on designing and able to cut to difference size.

Most tiles are from China now. QC most important. Feruni I can't comment too expensive for me to use. My house using China, Vietnam, and India tiles from Super Ceramic + Niro for floor. All Grade 1.

Hi, I need some advice on bathroom renovation.

I've been given a quotation:
"To dismantle and fix new tiles for 5 1/2 x 9' bathroom - RM4,100"
"To dismantle and fix new tiles for 112" x 51" bathroom - RM4,300"

I know, it's very vague right? I don't even know if this includes the price of the tiles, or am I too naive to think that it does? I'm totally clueless when it comes to this, so please bear with me. If I want to redo my wall and floor tiles, is it normal for the contractor to quote me ONLY the labour charges (hacking, cement, laying new tiles..), and is this RM4,100 and RM4,300 the labour charges, or do you think this includes the new tiles?

I got this quotation from the contractor through an ID (who emailed it to me), and I've not gotten a reply from her about my above queries yet. Just wanted to some advice from people who are well-versed in this.

I would also like to obtain some recommendations on good bathroom contractors from you guys who've been through this (and survived haha!).. I need another quotation to make a comparison with this one that I got. Or... how many quotations does one need actually huh? Please drop me a note. Thanks. - Kel.

Based on the statement : "To dismantle and fix new tiles for 5 1/2 x 9' bathroom - RM4,100"
It should not included the tiles. normally the contractor will mention ..."supply and install new tiles".

and your house is condo or landed? and bathroom height? How abt water proof?

Is 4,100 considered cheap? Wah then my one only cost RM1.3k, include hack and retile, change basin and toiletbowl, and do copper piping is like super cheap woh.. (prices not include materials)

Added on August 12, 2011, 5:29 pmby the way, got one contractor even better. He told me no need to do water proofing. I was like 'WHAT REALLY?'

he said if cement break means leak. water proof also no use. If cement no break, that means no leak. So water proofing is actually useless.

Professionals out there..is that right????

as absurd as it sounds, it could be true.
try digging when did waterproofing came about or was invented. many many moons ago, there was no such product to begin with. it realied heavily on the concrete. that is why we have water retaining structures.
when waterproofing came along, somehow it gave more options for openings and holes in the wall, floor, blah blah blah. or was it vice versa.
but knowing today's standards and workmanship, quite likely waterproofing is a necessity.
the house that i'm about to renovate, the leakage was so bad that the soffit of the slab has stained so bad that concrete is literally falling off and exposing the rebars.

Go to Buldermart, they give good discount for niro. But on average is still around RM 5.5 - 6.5 / sqft.

Think about that price. Mine is 4.8 for floor, and 3.8 for wall. Done by this Chinese contractor.

Hi WRB7878

Well, i'm extending the backyard to have bigger kitchen, hence i'll be getting new flooring, so the contractor just charge me for the labor cos i didn't want his package (1'x1' tile) of RM1960 covering 312 sqf.

For 2x2 tile for the floor from White Horse LOOS Series HD66002 or HD66004, last quoted was $29.80 per pc hmm.gif excl 5% discount.

For 1x2 tile for wall from White Horse Alsenia Series H63625, last was $8.90 per pc excl 5% discount.

Do you know of anyone selling this with better discount? Perhaps i'll survey NIRO around Klang tomorrow

I've been given a quotation:
"To dismantle and fix new tiles for 5 1/2 x 9' bathroom - RM4,100"
"To dismantle and fix new tiles for 112" x 51" bathroom - RM4,300"

*
Are you typo error kah?

"To dismantle and fix new tiles for 5 1/2 x 9' bathroom - RM4,100" , it means 5.5 * 9 = 49.5 / 4100 = RM82@sqf?
"To dismantle and fix new tiles for 112" x 51" bathroom - RM4,300", it means 9.3F (112") * 4.25F (51") =40 / 4300 = RM100@sqf?

You must be kidding with the price, if RM10@sqf it alreayd super high, your like SUPER SUPER high.

1) Are you start at Apartment or Landed property?
2) is the toilet at 1st floor or Gnd floor ( if you stay at lander property)
3) Are you having any leaking at this point?
4) Your dismantle only floor tiles or wall tile inclusive?'
5) any other thing ? Basin / WC move?

Normal hacking on floor so far I been quote are RM 6.50 (excluding tiles and Susu). So either you provide wrong info, or you are a Big Water Fish...

You already have your selection of tiles and with code, why not just pick the phone up or visit more place and ask for the price, than you will know where to get more cheaper. I just take the code and walk into more than 5 shops, than see which shop are ready stock (sure not all), than ask them to offer better price, if good price will get all from them.
Hence I indirect save cost up and they even give me privileage to call them for order and they just deliver to my place without need to pay up front first, and FOC deliever as long more than RM50.

Just onething need to keep in mind, get from reliable shop not cheap place to prevent given you reject or 2nd grade.

Jo_da, he provided the floor plan for bathroom only. you forgot the wall area x 4.

let say wall height is 9' as well. total wall = 5.5x9x2 + 9x9x2 = 99 + 162 + floor 49.5 = 310.5/4100 = RM13++/sqf.

and normally contractor will top up cost for dismantle the WC, Basin, concrete table top.....

Hi all

Wish to check if the price below is reasonable or not.

I wish to level my back yard ( currently is soil with grass 180 sqft. ) to cement with 1x1 tiles. The price around RM 2200. It is reasonable? Anything I need to take note?

Thanks in advance.
