Only possible with those 6/7 blade lens. Those 9 rounded blade lens usually will give nice round bokeh even when step down.

The heptagon bokeh? I think only cheap lens can la laugh.gif . Lemme try finding if I have any shaped bokeh when I stop down my lens first...

85mm f/1.4G step down to f/2.8, no shaped bokeh because of the aperture design. These heptagon usually due to 7 blade aperture design, usually older nikkor lens have this when step down aperture. Newer and higher end nikkor lens all uses 9 rounded blade design. Take the 50mm for example, the D versus the G. 7 blade versus 9 blade.
