QUOTE(PeaceOfMind @ Mar 12 2011, 03:04 PM) you should treat N900 as a mini computer with phone capability, so it's phone function is sucks, but it's capability to improve is unlimited. Nokia officially discontinue production, which could mean they also stop upgrading N900 firmware(there are talks about upgrading N900 to Meego) but we have maemo community, you should have see people mention about CSSU which is a firmware upgrade by 3rd party community to pro-long N900 life (yes, they make N900 in portrait mode!). Not only from CSSU, there are people who skill in Linux actually rewrite the virtual keyboard to key in chinese word which was lacked and demanded since the beginning. The program was released 2 days ago. Just now I scoop around maemo community and find someone actually modify ovimap to have speech capability!! So, you want to buy N900 or not is depend on you, if you need a phone with ease of use, you can choose fruit phone, you need a phone with lots of support , you can choose android phone. if you are an adventure type who like to learn programming/altering/tweaking your phone, N900 is the one and only |

QUOTE(mashimarow @ Mar 10 2011, 11:17 PM) It is released yesterday called mcip at extra-dev, still a bit unstable, it runs on python-qt, i'm not sure about the deb package, previously it is installed one by one via x-term, someone repack it into deb for beginner, so I didn't confirm the package is complete or not. The emacs will still sacrifice the virtual keyboard right ? If it won't sacrifice the virtual keyboard and work like normal I don't mind cut and paste to any apps well mostly in message yes, this input will sacrifice the vritual keyboard, cause it is altering the virtual keyboard for chinese input. Do note that mscim MUST be uninstalled and tested original virtual keyboard is working before using this package to change input. or you can use emacs, this consider as external program, it didn't alter anything original (except keymapping), but the input method is very tedious, you type the chinese in emacs then cut&paste to any apps |

Ah... I thought I can use the virtual keyboard to type the mandarin word though as for virtual keyboard, it works as normal, even the func+sym still working but I do say it is tediuos to type another plus point is emacs can key in japanese and korean as well |

QUOTE(Daniel89 @ Mar 13 2011, 03:17 PM) That would be MCIP, but it ruined the original virtual keyboard to make it for chinese inputIt hard to finalize what will happen next , people said you can't use eastern language with N900 and yet MSCIM appear, than a year later MCIP comes, so maybe they can improve the program without ruining the virtual keyboard |

QUOTE(earlgay999 @ Mar 13 2011, 07:22 PM) Still in works. I actually proposed this method before due to the lack of multitouch.I understand what you want to do. Action buttons use touch screen and movement using arrows on keyboard. Or maybe all on keyboard.. |

I second this opinion as in the n900 is still very much alive thanks to the community and the CSSU which I've personally tested and really enjoyed. The phone is very much like NEW again thanks to all the upgrades it has been getting. Though I know why some people wouldn't take that as a solid excuse because it's not officially supported by the company itself which to me STILL IS a big issue.... but i do hear good news about Nokia porting Meego to the N900 but that still remains as a rumour nevertheless (not that we need it since the community is ONCE AGAIN doing that for us). I always travel with my girlfriend... so never needed the voice navigation.. hehehe. but i do believe many will enjoy that feature. Something that I learned almost immediately... i HAVE to learn! and I enjoy tampering/modifying/figuring out/reading all about how to change and make my N900 different!QUOTE(earlgay999 @ Mar 13 2011, 06:22 PM) if you installed it using the latest webos games manager, the creator divan is still trying to figure a way to get the keymappings right as how it was done when you used preenv. IF you follow the preenv settings/installation via TMO properly, i think the keyboard should be fine...been a while since I visited the forum... just to mention,.... the E7.... turned out to be disappointing hardware wise.... 256MB ram still??? gimme a break man... |
