Are you looking at the Nokia E6?

The laser etched metal back plate seems to suggest that this is it, or at least, a very close to production unit. From the detailed pictures sourced from Engadget we have to say the fit and finish is as good as it’ll ever be.

The Nokia E6 looks like an update to Nokia’s E72 business centric phone. It comes with a dual LED flash 8MP camera rearward facing camera and a front camera of an unknown specification. The top part of the back plate looks like it could come off to become a stand or something but we’re just guessing here. Other than that little is known about this E6.

We saw the Nokia E6 first leak a little over a month ago, suggesting that Nokia had plans to add a touchscreen into the portrait QWERTY formula pulled off so well in the E71... but there was a problem: the screen was off. Where's the fun in that? Now another shot of the apparently upcoming Symbian device has leaked -- this time in a darker shade -- showing an updated user interface with icons that look just big enough to comfortably fat-finger. That's all we've got for the moment, but for E71 owners still waiting for their knight in shining armor to swoop in and offer a worthy replacement, this might end up being the closest thing -- assuming, of course, it hasn't been canceled and you're still okay going with Symbian for your next phone.

Nokia strengthens smartphone portfolio with two new products and a renewed user experience

Nokia E6 extends business mobility range and Nokia X7 introduces a new entertainment device for mobile gamers, both using the latest update of Symbian software

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – Nokia today announced the Nokia E6 and the Nokia X7, two new smartphones aimed at business people and entertainment enthusiasts respectively. The two devices are the first Nokia smartphones to contain the updated Symbian software, with new icons and usability enhancements such as improved text input, a faster browser and refreshed Ovi Maps.

“We are further strengthening Nokia’s smartphone portfolio with these two new devices, both of which offer a more beautiful and intuitive user experience that will soon also be available for the Nokia N8, Nokia E7, Nokia C7 and Nokia C6-01,” said Jo Harlow, head of Nokia’s Smart Devices business. “With these new products and more Symbian devices and user enhancements coming in the near future, we are confident we can keep existing Nokia smartphone customers engaged, as well as attract new first-time and competitor smartphone users.”

Following on from Nokia’s highly successful Nokia E71 and Nokia E72 devices, the Nokia E6 is a sleek business smartphone with a full QWERTY keypad and a high resolution touch display. Designed using premium materials such as glass and stainless steel, the device comes in a compact size that makes it easy to use with either one hand or two. The Nokia E6 offers exceptional battery life and the best out-of-the-box Microsoft messaging experience on a business smartphone, including access to Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft Communicator Mobile and Microsoft SharePoint.

The Nokia X7 is an entertainment-focused smartphone with a large 4” display ideal for gaming, and an 8 Megapixel camera for capturing pictures and HD-quality video. A distinctively designed device, the Nokia X7 is made from a combination of seamless stainless steel and glass – delivering a solid and durable feel in the hand. The Nokia X7 comes preloaded with the popular Galaxy on Fire HD and Asphalt 5 HD games.

The Nokia E6 and Nokia X7 are also the first smartphones to contain the complete update of the Symbian software user experience[1]. This update offers a host of usability enhancements, including fresh, new icons, improved text input, a faster internet browsing experience and a refreshed Ovi Maps application with improved search and new public transport routes. The renewed software also offers a strong set of new features aimed at business users in particular, including true enterprise grade security with hardware accelerated encryption, and new e-mail features such as full meeting request support.

In coming months the software update, which is nick-named Symbian Anna, will also be available as standard on newly shipping Nokia N8, Nokia E7, Nokia C7 and Nokia C6-01 devices, as well as available to download on previously purchased models of those same smartphones.

For developers, Symbian Anna greatly enhances the user experience on Nokia smartphones and makes the Qt business opportunity with Nokia even greater. Read more at: http://blogs.forum.nokia.com/blog/nokia-developer-news/

this one gonna be head to head with that new BB but the new BB got Dual Core 1.2ghz this still playing 680mhz. But guess Nokia dun need a lot of speed for its OS since it is so dated.

RRP- USD $500 though, not sure how's this gonna match with the price of BB Bold Touch.

KUALA LUMPUR: Nokia Malaysia has officially announced its E6 and X7 models, which are powered by the company's latest Symbian Anna operating system.

According to the company, the new OS promises improved usability, faster web browsing, a new Qwerty touch user interface and enhanced Ovi Maps that support social check-ins to Facebook, Twitter and Foursquare.

Encased in a sleek glass and stainless steel chassis, the Nokia E6 combines the benefits of both a full Qwerty keyboard and touchscreen navigation.

Apart from having a 2.46in VGA display (640 x 480-pixels), it has an 8-megapixel camera with dual LED flash that snaps pictures and records 720p HD videos.

Designed for productivity, the phone comes with pre-installed with productivity apps such as QuickOffice, World Traveler, JoikuSpot Premium (a mobile WiFi hotspot creator) and F-Secure Mobile Security for protecting sensitive data.

It also comes with out-of-the-box access to Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft Communicator Mobile and Microsoft SharePoint.

Additionally, it has micro-USB 2.0 support so users can share and save files onto a compatible memory stick. The device also allows users to expand the 8GB of internal memory up to 32GB with a micro-SD card. The Nokia E6 is expected to be available in June for RM1,155.

Nokia X7 and E6 Symbian Anna phones start shipping into obsolescence
user posted image
While we eagerly await Nokia's first Mango device, millions of others (we're told) have been patiently anticipating shipments of the first Symbian Anna smartphones. Well, today's the day, good sir. Nokia just loosed its 4-inch X7 media slab and E6 portrait QWERTY with 326ppi display into the shipping lanes. Look for the E6 worldwide while the X7 will skip the US carriers (as expected) targeting the friendlier Symbian climates of Europe, Eurasia, China, India and other countries around AsiaPac. Huzzah?

Seriously considering getting this phone, tried it out at Subang Parade, black.
Nice solid feel to it,keys are small but rounded easy to pick and push.good feedback.
Love the screen too, responsive touchscreen but easy to turn it off with the screen lock.Waiting till there's a vid of people installing spb shell, coreplayer,Garmin XT on it.
and TV out to an analog TV.

I don't know why people love Blackberry. The keys are freaking hard to press. The keys on Nokia's similarly designed phones such as E71, E72 are even better to be used than the ones on Blackberry. laugh.gif

Add BBM to Nokia, and Blackberry will have zero sales? biggrin.gif

The keypad are a matter of getting used to. Once you are used to blackberry, you will definitely condemn Nokia's keypad as well.

Can you receive instant email via Nokia? I was planning to buy this device but my past experience where some emails will take 15-20 mins to receive has made me to temporarily stay away from Nokia.

I played with one this afternoon and the resolution on such small screen makes it look really crispy. Slight lag is noticeable, and the lack of the onscreen keyboard makes it looks much bigger than it should be when texting. I think I will opt to try this instead of X7.

Added on June 22, 2011, 5:23 pmOh btw, I saw really a lot of E6 boxes.. I'm wondering if it was not selling well because there are cheaper alternative when it comes to physical qwerty phone. I think the small screen makes it less appealing to game and watch movies on it which render the better spec not that attractive.

QUOTE(andrekua @ Jun 22 2011, 05:21 PM)
I played with one this afternoon and the resolution on such small screen makes it look really crispy. Slight lag is noticeable, and the lack of the onscreen keyboard makes it looks much bigger than it should be when texting. I think I will opt to try this instead of X7.

Added on June 22, 2011, 5:23 pmOh btw, I saw really a lot of E6 boxes.. I'm wondering if it was not selling well because there are cheaper alternative when it comes to physical qwerty phone. I think the small screen makes it less appealing to game and watch movies on it which render the better spec not that attractive.
*
that small screen just nice for emulator to run... but wonder the emulator out there can work with the high res screen or not... hmm.gif

Just sent an email for an E6 reservation. Still 3weeks to go before getting a QWERTY to test. Let's see if a QWERTY would really change anything.

i'm also struggle at first but after some thinking the E6 just have more things to be explore like the high res screen and big batt (25% more power with slower processor) also the physical keypad (as i've never have a full keypad device before)... so E6 FTW... icon_rolleyes.gif
yah the pricetag for the x7 would be ~EU100 different which mean a few hundreds in RM... sweat.gif
who know person choose E6 will have "extra" thing like the Nokia 360... drool.gif brows.gif

Well... the phone itself is solid build, i like the qwerty keyboard, good touchscreen with clear display of text, a bit laggy, symbian anna not much different except for the graphic,
build in juikosport premium, f-secure, traveler, quick office and adobe reader.
the mail app is very fast in terms of receiving mail, almost instantly ( i tried it cause i saw peole asking this earlier).
notification light is very dim, only visible when it's in a dark place, no optical trackpad.
Garmin can be install but have display problem maybe due to the screen resolution that's not supported by garmin.
what else you guys wanna know?

I think the battery life should be better than N8, C7, X7 etc. Smaller screen which uses much much less power as well as the bigger capacity.

mail retrieval 'soonest'. batterry life is now 65% since full charge last night with 3.5g and joikusport usage about 1 hour today.
what do you mean by awesome? there's part that's awesome like the touchscreen with qwerty and there's also some parts that no so awesome like the notification light problem.

Actually they made a good job by removing the bronze colour for E6. At 1st when I saw that picture in the 1st post, I found it to be "yucks" sweat.gif

Oh like that? Okay, I need to plan my travel method now. Being without any form of transport sux yo! laugh.gif

It seems like all choose E6 maa? For me myself, I'm a self professed QWERTY keyboard junky (The only reason I managed to endure the horrid N97 for few months before giving it up). And phones to me is a communication device first, so good battery life is a must, awesome Email support, that delicious keyboard again (I just love it! laugh.gif), great screen so on and so forth.

So its E6 for me laugh.gif

1 question, for all E6 current user, does Qt apps scale up nicely to the screen? Just curious...

Not like we have other option. Tried X7 but don't feel anything special about it. Big screen, makes N8 feel so small, but otherwise is just like C7 with bigger screen. I shall get a 5" magnifying glass if I wanted big screen.

I haven't tried qwerty device for Symbian except M600i, if you consider it as Symbian with Gucci.

Tried out the E6 at the Nokia shop in Gardens Midvalley.. and I'm hooked. I love compact QWERTY (just to differentiate from those slide up QWERTYs). Ever since I've been on my E63, everything else feels inferior. I do notice everyone's hooked on their full touch keyboards, but they can't compare to my hardware qwerty yo. And now we have touch + qwerty, without having to slide anything or flip anything or open anything. How cool is that. All in a compact the size of my E63.

Only time will tell whether it'll be my make or break moment.

If I come back in 3 months begging you to shoot me, you'll know.

Another benefit of adding the touchscreen is that this becomes the first E-series model in this form factor to run apps previously offered only to users of touchscreen models. This increases the choice of apps, although with the planned transition to Windows Phone OS you will have to accept the choice of apps will never be as great as other platforms.

That so sucks.

Edit: (something good this time)

Some consumers don't even KNOW what this phone can do, they just see Symbian on it and puke, good reason. But remember that this handset packs a month on stand by on a single charge, that can't be achieved with Android or iOS, maybe in 10 years when they have enough R&D like Nokia.

While some users worry on how to configure their device to save power, download power saving apps, manage their wlan , BT manually or install setCPU to underclock the CPU, I just worry free because Symbian has done that automatically for years

For E Series, I realised that it can actually go up to 7 days (minimum up to 5 days) with just call, SMS, some photos etc.

So I assume that the E6 can last about 10 days without internet connection.

I'm not one to back up crazy claims. I doubt it can go a whole month without charging. For my usage (30 messages a day, no more than 1 hour worth of calls), I'd say it would last about 3 days tops.

1 month is probably a lab study, no radio signals, on power save mode. (Btw, E6 has a power save mode that will shut off vibra and lower brightness to increase batt life when batt is below 10%, cool).

But I'm more concerned with the ease of use and OS.

Just got my E6-00 yesterday. So far I'm impressed (by the OS changes and ease of use)

Only gripe I have is that the 3G seems to be ON all the time, no matter what I do. Strange.

The title said "successor to E72"

How can it be a successor when they downgrade the E72's auto focus camera to a fixed focus? It's a downgrade to me.

I don't know if Garmin is in Symbian Anna flavor yet, but I find personally (having used Garmin before) that the Nokia Maps 3.0 is good enough. Provided you're willing to set up a data plan.

Hi guys, I have been using the Nokia E6-00 since 2nd July.

Here's my quick and dirty review of the phone.

UPDATED 19 JULY
GSMArena has released a review of the phone as well ---> http://www.gsmarena.com/nokia_e6_00-review-616.php

New things I found super awesome about this phone:
Videos - This phone handles AVI files, DivX and XViD! How super awesome is that? But it doesn't like MP3 codec. So far it has handled every video file I have thrown at it.
Using LED as Torchlight - You can activate the DUAL LEDs as a flashlight (mind you it's super bright) by holding down the slide lock for 3s. Repeating the action turns it off.
Wi-Fi Hotspot - This is provided as a 3rd party app (as compared to Android who have it built in since Froyo). App is Joikuspot Premium version. Nice.
Copy Pasta - Cut, copy, paste is still all there, now enhanced by the capacitive touchscreen. Only thing missing is Android's magnified selection.

Some not so good things I found about the phone (but I live with it, cos I love it so much)
Smudges - This thing is a fingerprint magnet diva. Smudges appear on the back, front, everywhere. As some forumers have noted, it gets slippy. But livable.
Video Player - does not remember last position. Once you leave the video app, and restart, it will start the video from the beginning. Annoying.
During Calls - The phone will start up Contacts or even Alarm Clock for no reason. When you put the call down, you find that app staring at you. Boggling.
Breathing Light - is a little weak. Which goes to say the Notification Light is also weak (compared to E63 and E72)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Nokia E6-00 is touted as the successor to the E72 which was at the time, a brilliant piece of work by Nokia. Autofocus, slim waistline, latest Symbian Feature Pack, comfortable QWERTY; it had everything you could want from a QWERTY messenger. Add to that, it had good looks and a few nice perks like flashlight feature and flip to mute.

So what could the E6 do to top the E72?

Here are it's main features that reallly stood out for me:
    2.46 inch 16 million colour
    Gorilla Glass screen
    640x480 capacitive touchscreen
8MP Full Focus (not auto) camera, with 720p video recording and dual LED flash
    Slim waistline 10.5mm
    8GB internal mass memory
A-GPS with free lifetime voice guided navi
    Blueteeth 3.0
GSMArena's Spec Sheet --> http://www.gsmarena.com/nokia_e6-3717.php

Here's what makes the E6 better or worse than the E72
    Slightly thicker (0.5mm)
    Capacitive touchscreen (major plus)
Not auto-focus (major disappointment for me)
8GB mass memory (more is always better)
    E6 adds 5g of weight
And from GSMArena, a comparison of E72 and E6 --> http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPho...1&idPhone2=3717

User History
It's a good place to start with where I come from.

For the past 2 years I've been using the E63, a budget version of the E72. I was very happy with it, except for the lack of autofocus and lack of GPS. It was my introduction to QWERTY candy bar form. My texting speed doubled and I was highly impressed with it, having previously used only T9 types.

Let's go into some details.

Under the Hood
    680Mhz Processor
    256MB RAM
    8GB internal Mass Memory
    1500mAh battery
By today's standards of dual cores and 1GB of RAM, the E6 is kinda slow. But that's the appeal of Symbian OS, it doesn't need all that to run effectively. It has tons of processor optimisations and power settings that ensure the phone gives you the power when you need it and prioritizes battery life when it's not powering thru apps.

Power Saving
One very awesome feature I found was the Power Saving feature. A quick tap on the battery icon and you can turn the phone into a power sipper. It lowers brightness to the lowest setting and turns off the vibrator. And the phone automagically switches the feature on when batt is down to 10% thereby giving you that extra bit of juice.

I won't go into the nitty gritty of how long the battery lasts. Just my personal usage.

For myself, I send out about 50 messages a day, and at minimum 5 calls a day, the phone lasts about 1.5 days before I start charging it. To avoid unpleasant loss of service, I've got myself a car charger and mount to charge it when I drive back from work. The 20 minutes it spends plugged in really helps. Alternatively, you could charge it in office and at home.

OS Changes - Symbian Anna
Symbian Anna is touch optimised and slightly easier to use, while retaining the familiar feel of Symbian-ness. Icons are larger, easier for touch and menus revamped. But still we're talking about squeezing 640x480 pixels in 2.46 inches instead of the usual 4 inches that other touchscreens offer. Then again, that's more of a choice of form factor. For me the hardware QWERTY just sells it for me. I can't quite yet picture being on a full touchscreen. Maybe I'm just being stubborn. I see so many people using full touchscreens with ease. For me, full touchscreens offer the cool factor at the cost of tactility and error free typing. But that's just me.

Hands On Feel
The handset feels very comfortable in the hands, going with the tried and true dimensions of E72 and E71 previously pioneered. The added 5g of weight is barely felt, it feels as natural as the E72 to hold for calls and messages.

Two handed use is definitely recommended though Nokia would probably have you believe you could use it one-handed with prediction turned on. And here on, you will notice the touchscreen will come in handy, just a little tap and the message gets sent. Instead of flicking thru menus with the D-pad, you can speed things up by tapping the specific item you want.

And of course the D-pad is still there (as opposed to contender HTC ChaCha that removes the D-pad and gives you 4 arrows) for purists or those still acclimatising to touch and type.

Messaging
This should be the phone's strongest card in it's deck.

Messaging was very comfortable and reasonably quick. It allows you to use Conversation mode (aka Threaded mode) to view new messages. This was a big plus to me, as I communicate with my partner via SMS alot and messages can get lost pretty fast, hence using threaded mode gave me a feeling of improvement. Some threaded views show a whole long list of the entire conversation which takes time to load. Nokia has set up the Conversation to only load the few latest messages and it archives the rest under "Show Older Messages". This speeds up loading a conversation alot.

Alot of reviews don't cover this part, but me being quite anal, want to touch on the message capacity and the phones ability to handle large volumes of messages stored in inbox and sent. I get this tiny sense of satisfaction of pushing the limits of the messaging component of a phone. At time of writing, I have 523 Received; 644 Sent. I'll probably reach 1000 messages in Inbox before I have to clear it. So far there's only a slight detectable delay in opening a long conversation, but as mentioned above, Nokia have a workaround for it.

Phonebook

The phonebook sports a small SNS (Social Networking Services) tie-in. You can link your contacts with Facebook or Twitter via the Contacts. You can use your friend's Facebook picture as your contact pic. If your friend has a current status, it will show that above the phone numbers.

This wasn't the biggest deal for me, as I'm not such an avid Facebooker.

Gee That's Good GPS
I've previously used Garmin on a Sony Ericsson Vivaz Pro, and I found that very useful, having been my first foray into GPS. I've also used a GPS Bay standalone GPS unit, and it was just as expected. Naturally, when I first booted up Nokia Maps, I was skeptical that it would perform up to the standards I was so used to.

And I was pleasantly surprised with how easy it was to use. Sure there was a bit of learning curve, but it's no different from using Garmin for the first time.

Zooming in and panning the map about was smooth and graphically pleasing.

Voice Navigation was accurate and not much different from Garmin's. I have yet to test out using my own voice to record. Once I have tested that I will post an update.

Best part about Nokia Maps 3.0 is that you can update maps via wi-fi and store them locally, hence saving on data costs. Brilliant.

Data Plan
You could use this phone without a data plan but you'd be missing out on alot of the features like Phonebook SNS integration (as mentioned in Phonebook section above).

Using it without a data plan would require alot of mucking about the settings to turn off all the features.

GPS also relies heavily on data plans, sometimes using the 3G network to determine location and show places of interest nearby your location. Skimping on the data plan would mean seeing alot of blank spaces in your apps.

Software Market

Thus far, I haven't seen alot of Apps in the Ovi Store. Nokia better get some new software in as this is a smartphone and part of being a smartphone involves being able to expand the usability of the handset via 3rd party apps.

Ovi Store for Symbian Anna OS looks like an tiny infant when compared to giants Apple's iTunes and Google's Android.

Conclusion
Thinking about technology in general, I feel that Nokia rushed this E6-00 out to beat competitors HTC (with the ChaCha) and Blackberry (with the 9900). It's definitely a good effort and I love this phone like an extension of my limbs.

If you are currently using an E72, you might want to wait and see if Nokia releases an autofocus touch and type.
If you are currently using an E63, this is the phone you should consider.
If you are currently using a T9 phone and want to venture into QWERTY territory, make this your Top 3 considerations. (The other being Blackberry 9900 and HTC ChaCha)

The price is currently listed as RM1,065 at time of writing.

On my scale of measurement, I give this phone an 8 out of 10, losing points only for fixed focus, processor speed and RAM (based on today's smartphone standards)

Very nice review there. Thanks a lot.

I have a question on the search function of the Address Book.

Lets say I have a contact, complete with name and company name.

Is it possible to search via company name instead of the contact name?

Thank you.

Finally hands on E6. I wonder if this will finally made me sell my HTC Legend. Lets roll for a week and see. The higher resolution really helps when using the browser. It does make clicking some links that harder with the high res but make reading much easier without even zooming in.

We did not get to see N9 sadly. I have to say I'm not used to the small keys but really like it compared to the lackluster keyboard we seen on pre-Anna OS.

Currently using Nokia E6-00. Briefly, I have to say that the QWERTY is as good as it can be for a phone this size. One problem, the phone is quite slippy, but its very minor.

All in all, a great phone by Nokia, solid all rounder. I really need to write a proper review to give this phone justice laugh.gif

quite happy with Nokia E6. I have made the right decision by not choosing the X7 because E6 suits me well

Overall it is ok but email part is still behind BlackBerry. Well, 5 minutes wait shd be OK.

The only problem I have now is the keyboard light is not turning on. It definitely works but somehow it doesnt light up when i am in a dark room.

Added on July 16, 2011, 3:24 amthe keypad lighting problem was fixed with a restart. I guess it is the usual Symbian bug.

Symbian phone feels more complete with physical keys laugh.gif

Added on July 16, 2011, 8:55 amBTW, is the pixel density helping with the camera or what? The pics taken are quite crisp. Later transfer to PC and compare again.

i think that the photo quality is quite good even at your desktop. But yes, the Nokia E6 screen makes the pic look extraordinary.

E6 screen surely a step up by Nokia. Especially when compared to my N8 before. My only gripe? The light sensor is too sensitive laugh.gif

And my god, loving the keyboard more and more. Its that awesome!

I find it laughable to find fixed focus on any E series phone that is supposedly a business phone. How to take picture of document with fixed focus? That's the reason why I am thinking of ditching mine other E series.

it depends. Not every business users will take a camera shot of documents.

Same like video call. Many feel that a phone e.g. Blackberry or some Android phone at its disadvantage when there is no front camera but how many of them actually use that feature?

Anyway, i personally feel that those who are seriously looking into a phone which is catered for business should not even look at this phone.

The Nokia E6 is more like a all rounder phone. It covers everything in general but not specialized in anything.

This issue actually has already been raised and they are actually looking into it. But like what ViraVira said, all rounder phone. I guess the E series no longer can be categorize solely for business phone anymore. Seems like more of all rounder phone now.

I don't know about others but for my work, if I see any interesting product or if some pass me a name card, I seldom take out a pen and paper to write anything. I just use the camera to take a photo and view it at my pleasure when back in the office. Hence for a phone at this price and for business, fixed focus is laugable.

Looks like they have done little to resolve the battery life for S3 smartphone. I'm still experiencing massive battery drain, just like my N8 and C7. Had it not because of the bigger battery capacity, I won't even have 30% left now.

Just using for couple of short calls, bout 20 minutes of surfing. Interval email checking is 30 minutes. I don't know why the data keep on going despite already set the interval for email. Manually disconnect data with RED key but it will run almost immediately in less than 5 seconds.

For me, Whatsapp and Gravity are the two most battery draining app in Symbian3 phones. Plus email syncing, but that could be minimized, so not too much of a problem there.

Still, I'm using Nimbuzz, Whatsapp, browser a lot over wifi since this morning, and yet, the battery still full. Really shocking TBH, must be the frugal battery usage of the small screen and the large, hero battery plays a role here.

Currently testing apps for compatibility with E6. Fmobi (IMHO, the best FB client on E6 now), Opera Mobile, Nimbuzz, Whatsapp works well with no issue, apart from the small display of course. Plus, the touch n type nature of E6 really helps a lot in navigating around the app. Really felt natural in hand.

I can feel inserting my main SIM here, and using my N8 solely for media creation + consumption laugh.gif

I thought Whatsapp does not have to be switched on to recieve messages?

I have Whatsapp and I never bother switching it on and don't have people sending me message to it either. Is that the reason why I never experience shorter battery life even after I installed Whatsapp?

Whatsapp is forever running FYI. Nokia internet conenction stays active for Whatsapp and kills the battery. >.< Even the largest capacity battery by Nokia @ 1500mah is very very bad if you're running whatsapp on Symbian devices. doh.gif

Yes, whether or not whatsapp is running or not, there seem to be a background service that will keep activating data connection. When I was posting earlier, it keep running. But now check again, it activate data connection, run for a few seconds then stop liao. But it did not kill the data connection. I wonder if inactive is same as having it turned off. Gonna ask Nokia later.

Not sure what you wanna show there. Try activate whatsapp and see if the data comes on automatically or not lor. I killed whatsapp also it still connect. You can goto Connection Manager to see which app activate the data what. Try switch if off by long press the RED disconnect key and see if it on data again (quite fast, 10 to 15 seconds).

even with 1650mAh or 1900mAh, some of the phones can't even reach 2 days (moderate use) which is a shame.

So for Nokia E6, i find the battery life to be decent unless it is caused by some apps which is not optimised for battery saving.

I think that the ringtone volume is already not loud enough even when the speaker is facing you. Surprisingly, the music playback (when listening to songs) is very loud.

the idling power consumption on the E6 are about same as the N8 which:

1. ~7mA if idling without any data connection
2. ~30mA if idling with data connection

so the only advantage here would be the 25% extra battery juice that make the different... so if your normal usage on N8 is 16 hours then the E6 will last u 20 hours with same usage.

The cool things I've found so far would be the keypad really make a different during typing as in full touch device u have tto force into the typing screen when typing but with E6 the screen still stay as it is when u doing typing... thumbup.gif

Garmin XT will distort if you choose 3D in Maps setting, but if u choose North Up it will can be use.

Most of (i can say all) apps will only in Landscape mode and the orientation rotation are NOT active at all in all the apps (even the music album listing)

The left side widget are something new as it will reserve at all HS and the bottom box reserved for phone/sms event notification.

Lots of S3 apps and widget not working on the E6 correctly, below some of it:

1. Nokia Reader, the widget will show as the apps itself, and when u open it the display only fit partial of the screen.
2. Accu. Weather, the widget will not fully fit into the widget frame, u will get a mini widget
3. Pocketlock, not working as it seem the E6 approx sensor I/O are different from N8
4. Garmin, the map view will distort if u view in 3D mode, the apps won't fully stretch into full screen
5. 3rd party apps icons are not all in round shape as of all the Anna default apps icons, not so nice with some apps icon in rectangle shape
6. Both AntSnes and gpsp emulator are working flawlessly, only the main gui distort a bit

so that's all the finding so far... icon_rolleyes.gif

Added on July 16, 2011, 10:57 pmlots of the performance gain i only can say would be due to the Anna update... 1 thing very obvious are the Anna seem keep on refresh and clean up the RAM in background and will unload those apps that been put in background this make the 256MB RAM seem run smoother compare with current S^3... this make me really looking forward Anna on N8... drool.gif

X7 screen also not bad. Big and vivid. I would have chosen it if only it has better keyboard. I turned off the prediction for E6 cos really annoying. There is one good thing about not having accelerometer is when you lie on the bed and the screen rotate.

This E6 really wanna make me throw away the HTC but so disappointed with the problem for Whatsapp and Social feels so slow n hard to use.

If you want to buy keypad/board phone, buy Symbian. Although I dont know how good is BB, but this time, E6 definitely get my thumbs up for readability. Now feel so lazy to open my iPad2 on my bed.

BB still is the best for the following :
1) social networking - Facebook, twitter
2) instant messaging
3) email - but this is subjective. My company email is instant on Nokia E6 but for BB, i have to wait max 15 mins because it doesn't support Mail For Exchange. However, Gmail is other way round where BB is instant and Nokia is max 5 mins (which is still not bad).

Other thing is the notification part where Nokia E6 only have light notification for sms and missed call. Nokia should have added email and chat etc as well.

Overall Nokia E6 is a good phone. No regrets for sure. Happy that i have chosen this over Nokia X7.

Noooooo.....haha tongue.gif

by the way, my E6 battery took 8 hours to get from full bar to 1 bar. Tried twice and it is the same.

That is driving me crazy. Even my old Nokia E71 can last for nearly 1 day with similar usage pattern.

I suspect FSecure is the culprit. Turning it off now and monitoring the phone again. Haiz.

The main reason I'm choosing this over X7? The godly QWERTY keyboard, the hi res screen and the fact that apart from the screen and the speaker, X7 brings nothing new to the table. Its like an enlarged C7 IMHO laugh.gif

I think this time, I made the right call

Yeah, stop using data and use wifi lor.
*
The connection is still active and unlike on iPhone which doesn't seem to drain battery even when it's active. Whatsapp on Symbian is a headache cause Nokia devices drain extremely lot of battery power when data connection is active. doh.gif

owh, torch light doesn't work when power saving mode is activated.

Pls check if you are running on power saving mode if your torch light is not functioning.

Added on July 17, 2011, 12:08 pmoops, doesnt work on normal mode too? Probably because of low battery? Need to install 3rd party torch like as a backup.

For mine, the torch works as I hold the lock toggle on homescreen till the phone vibrates. And vice versa.

I have to admit that the battery life for Nokia E6 is quite poor if push email is activated.

This is the 3rd time I am charging my phone within 24 hours. Well it is still early to conclude because I am now trying again with power saving mode activated. Hopefully it will at least bring the phone alive for at least a day.

Note:
1st charge - 3am
2nd charge - 1pm (at this point, I've deactivated FSecure because I suspected that it is depleting the battery faster than usual).
3rd charge - 12:45am (at this point, I've activated power saving mode. No background app is running but push email is still going on).

Yep, I do believe the pseudo-push email is depleting the battery quite fast. Its happened before on my N8, and I believe its the same for E6.
Have you tried changing the retrieval frequency in the setting? In my N8, that is helping with my battery life. A lot.
That to be said, my E6 battery still going strong after a day worth of usage (Over Wifi). Only 1 tiny bar depleted for now. Maybe I didn't push it hard enough? laugh.gif

Unfortunately, the email feature is very important to me and I need emails to be pushed without much delay. The next option I have is 15 minutes which is already too long.

I was happy that the email feature is more reliable than in Nokia E72 and N8 but if the battery is going down so fast, I can't use it as my primary corporate phone.

Hopefully the power saving mode can do a miracle. Otherwise, I have to get back to my BlackBerry sad.gif

New battery may need several cycle before reaching optimum performance.

I find 3G suck battery almost twice as fast as GSM

Alright, I think I found the cause. My WLAN is continuously scanning for available network. The power saving mode for WLAN (yes, there is a separate one) was also disabled.

Need to charge my phone again now (10% battery left - 1 bar) and put it to the test again by optimizing the Wi-Fi setting.

Your 1 day is 8working hours or full 24hours?
The problem with Symbian 3 is the data connection bug when some app like Whatsapp activates data connection, although inactive, still eat battery for lunch.
Either Nokia works out how to save power with always-on data or ban apps that hog the line.

Without Whatsapp, my E6 still left 80% at this moment. Im running hotmail and gmail check at 30minutes interval, Social, few minutes on the internet, few smses and calls. The only change I did was removing Whatsapp.

It's not your phone or cable problem.

I have three pieces of 2GB pen drives from Sandisk, Toshiba and the special gift from Nokia during E7 launch.

All are formatted with FAT32 and here are the result.

Toshiba and Sandisk are being detected fine and working. The special one from Nokia is not.

I double checked with my laptop and pc and confirm all 3 are in working condition but only Nokia fail the test. It come out with an error "Unsupported USB device. Disconnect device".

I forgot to mention that I not only test it with different phones (including N8) but also change cables (also from N8).

not able to see any other code clearly.

By the way, I fully charged my phone at 8pm yesterday and at this point of time (7:50am), my battery is still full.

Push email ongoing; screen display at medium (middle), 2 calls (total 5 mins).

So the culprit which drains the battery is the auto wifi scanner which was turned on by default.

Glad that your problem funally solved. How can we forgot about auto wifi scanning, thats one of the biggest battery drainer in the phone. Which turning it off is one of the first thing I done when I received my N8, C7 and E6. Cardinal sin by Nokia to leave it on by default doh.gif

Anyway, how about the battery level now? We can make a guide on battery preservation based on your experience icon_idea.gif

There's way too many apps that weren't showned in OVI Store with this phone. And the prediction is very poor. Still, I kinda like browsing forum and replying with ease with the qwerty and high PPI.

LOL

It's me who are quite annoyed here. This is a really driving me crazy phone. Some of the features like the long press with function keys for shortcuts to something is really nice. Nokia still best with physical key design. However, I'm very annoyed with the light sensor on E6. It's too damn sensitive at night. I wished Nokia would consider tuning the setting or even allow user to disable it totally. A small change in the angle of the way the phone is held will result in the 'disco effect'. Not to mentioned the weak ringtone and vibration.

There is one thing that its good at which is the signal strength. It was able to hold onto 3G signal well in my house where it was weak with Legend, N8 and even C7.

Added on July 20, 2011, 11:53 pmI found an interesting bug with E6 web browser.

Try scrolling using touch and while its scrolling, press the D pad to continue scrolling and it will scroll repeatly like a circle.

not worried about those bugs because currently using Opera Mobile. It is much smoother in terms of scrolling and overall much better to use compared to the native browser.

Yes, agree. I often miss my calls/smses/emails when the phone is in my pocket even while I am at a quiet place.

The ringtone is not very loud but quite OK. The only problem is, the speaker is placed at the back and it is totally blocked when the phone is placed into the pouch. Poor pouch design.

Now, I have another reason to be happy for choosing Nokia E6 instead of Nokia X7.

I can enjoy the discussion here because there is no photo spamming, seriously.

So annoying to see the photos loading one by one and I can't read anything until the page is fully loaded because of the 'page jumping' when each photo loads.

It also waste all my bandwidth (300mb is too little)

Thank God, the spammer choose X7 smile.gif

E6 camera and C7 do not allow me to take pic. But what I can explain is that I cut off the tiny strap on the top right which has a slot for volume button. That makes it looks like C7 case. I use permanent marker to 'color' it black after the cut which expose the internal of the case.

Yep, I do agree. E6, by far one of themost slippery phone I've used. Still, the QWERTY goodnes just too much to let go. Especially after my N8 being relegated as my media creation + consumption device, my E6 being the primary phone. And the newest addition in my gadgets family, Samsung Galaxy Tab as my Web 2.0 + reading device.

Yep, I finally embraced Android OS. Still, IMHO, this gonna be the next Symbian.

u need to manual download the N8/C7 (nHD) version then install it... but a minus would be the battery monitor widget will be smaller (won't fully fit) the widget area... sweat.gif

Yup, seem like there is update... OTA not yet out... have to use OVI Suite to update...

Better wait for OTA, cos need to download 173MB update...

Better use Nokia Software Update aka NSU... Ovi Suite so lag and slow download... NSU is flying at full speed

I'm done. Nothing much different except for some speed improvement here and there. Minor update to address lagging issue in certain situation.

Added on August 1, 2011, 8:01 pmOne of the most noticeable change is the scrolling adjustment. I think Nokia probably realized that there is not much space to scroll on and therefore they adjusted the scrolling speed for the touch screen.

Its now a lot easier to reach the bottom in Social and Browser with just a single flick. It scroll so fast that it was having problem updating the display that it look like a bit jumpy. Strange that this does not seem to affect the long Contacts.

Added on August 1, 2011, 8:15 pmIs this feature available on the older firmware? Tap the top black bar in Browser bring up the Address Bar and repeat it again to hide it. Never discover it previously but somehow discover it after updating it today.

bro, i have tested it.. by the time i get the phone, i only charged it until the battery indicates full. and it did not last 1 day.. so i used it until it totally drain and charged it for 8 hours.. and the result? 2 days ++. i charged it again last nite at 8.30..

i just share my experience here.. and that is the results that i get.. anyway, i'm still happy i've made my choice.. nokia still the best and most reliable phone.. hehehe...  rclxm9.gif  rclxm9.gif

Yes, that is normal. It will take few charges & discharges for the battery to reach its optimum level. Furthermore, (whether you believe or not tongue.gif), your phone will stop charging once the battery is full and will only charge again when the power drops a little.

Dont cucuk your own butt... it hurts...

Faster processor does not mean must always utilise it... otherwise why dont you buy a Pentium 3 desktop instead of Core i3...

Your car also can run 200KMH but does not mean you need to drive @ 200KMH everytime...

Never utilize? Prove it.

Anyway, Im gonna use E6 as my secondary phone and return to Legend. I think Nokia KILL E6 indirectly. The apparent lack of compatible apps plus quick turnaround time of Android and iOS makes E6 unattractive for anything but for communication/email purpose.

Well, kinda pointless to debate with you anyway. I got the slightest feeling where it will be headed.

Just a simple answer. Fully utilized != 100 % load.

I had 7 pages fully packed homescreen with live wallpaper already occupied more than half of the RAM. As for the dual core, really depends on software. I think the OS is dual core aware, but the apps don't know can enjoy the speed or not.

what is the point of having dual-core but the battery is not able to last for even 24 hours?

Nokia E6 can last for 1.5 days with continuous push email. How many Android PHONES can do this?

I admit that Android is powerful but I dont own one (i mean phone, not tablet) because i know that i will be carrying a super phone for half day and a brick for the other half day.

Im lost at finding words to describe. So 1.5 days with bla bla bla...

LOL...

Then I must be charging 'something' else every night then... PR1.0, 1.1, 1.2, Anna, Babi, Cicak... Symbian most efficient rubbish statement... Im charging my stupid phone every night with periodic 15minutes email checking, some web surfing and some calls... Not to mention I had to RESTRAIN myself from clicking the install button for Whatsapp...

So interested with dual core power draw... I also wonder what's the power draw when both are run at 680MHz crappy speed... So much for being efficient...

If I am able to use it for 1.5 days (that is due to high usage), probably you have some problem with yourself that you don't wish to admit but blame it on the device instead. I pity the phone because it has got into the wrong hands.

Yeah, you only know how to LOL for no reason like a mental.

You are now admitting that your usage is higher than mine and yet you complain about the battery? What else do you expect? You want the battery to last for 30 days with your usage pattern?

Your head must be severely injured recently. Have you taken your medicine?

Don't need to do that really. E6 wins... End of story... People want to stick to their reliable device, just let them be. There is nothing to prove here. There is nothing to Android. Only Nokia has power saving mode and I heard it can do miracles. Does the other need it?

I've been using SGSII for more than 1 month now. IMHO, the dual-core is under-utilized, can't even utilize it to 80%, means I waste 20%. But Nokia phone 680mhz, is overutilized (their phone is rich with features but underpowered). Even SGS now I felt underpowered due to the resource hog from android OS. So far I see N9 balance both, so u are able to get smooth experience.

u can even bring in a kapzai honda c70 aka nokia 2100 better coz it save more fuel... never ending storey....

Yup, SGS2 so so much better than the original version. I was surprised that the dual core is being utilize so effectively. I was thinking that it might take another version to fully push dual core optimisation to the max but it was not necessary.

The headroom for processing power will allow Google to try something new to take advantage of all these processing power in future Android upgrade.

If Nokia is to become the first to push out a dual core WP7.5, then hehehe... Beware...

Bro,

It cant be helped. When NOKFAGGOT compare phone, they compare numbers. They rarely compare the difference in the tasks that were being done. Just take a simple web browsing. 30 minutes os web browsing with full featured browsing experience almost similar to your desktop pc, with mostly text mobile view browser on Symbian. Why dont they disable the mobile view and compare then. Lets take another example. If you left the browser open and forget about it, came back an hour later and watch the battery level. Do the same on Android and compare if its worse or better. Even a normal Whatsapp also unable to implement correctly without draining battery.

I don't see anything wrong with what beatlesalbum has said. Have you read from the beginning where andreakua is bashing for no apparent reason? Why are you getting angry with someone who is right when you are suppose to tell that to andreakua who is talking without fact?

Furthermore, I partially disagree with you that we should compare an iPhone with Nokia (especially with the E6). It is the same as comparing a Kancil and BMW (price wise and also feature wise)

By the way, if you are aware of what is happening here and would still like to support andreakua just because he is your best buddy in Ranger, I am ready for an argument.

I don't see any NOKFAGGOT here. It all started with one ANDROIDFAGGOT @ ANDREFAGGOT and now other similar faggots are joining in too. I pity you sometimes. You are the one who started a comparison and now, you are the same bugger who is blaming others for comparing.

Let me tell you something. If you want to compare Android vs Nokia E6, be a man (with balls of course) and compare E6 with similar standard Android phones e.g. Motorola Charm and Samsung Galaxy Pro. Well, their price is obviously more expensive but still the overall Android experience in those phones sucks. You will shit brix and vomit blood if you compare that way.

Or if you can't admit the fact and want to continue bashing the phone without fact, I challenge you to return back your FREE Nokia E6. Will you do that? Why not? You don't like the phone right?

What is great? U want to join in too?

Wait for the Bold 9900 to really compare with, I still like E6-00 except for missing BBM, and the push notification that OS7 has.

1,000MYR for E6-00, is not overly expensive.

I dont know why you keep comparing price. The only thing you can compare is number is it?

The reason why I LOL'ed at Nokia fans because they always complain battery performance for Android phones, in this particular case, a S2, but they did not realized the reason behind it. And as for similarly standard Android, do I need to reiterate what I have view in my N8 review? The only reason why one would still choose them is for the 720P playback and gaming which is not/poorly supported by these lower end Android phone with MSM7227. Other than that, Symbian basically has nothing to compare.

I see that basically you aren't comfortable to compare at sections that Android fails. IF you want TO COMPARE, you should COMPARE ALL ASPECTS including numbers. Otherwise, of course there will be nothing to compare between them, because you are trying to justify the parts where Android fails and boasting at the parts where Android is better.

And what is the point of justifying at parts where Android fails in the 1st place? If it FAILS, then IT FAILS. If it is a DISADVANTAGE, you can't change it the other way round by justifying the disadvantage. By saying that SGS 2's battery life is bad because bla bla bla is not going to convince someone who don't have time or facility to charge their phone every half day. You got it?

Bro,

This is not about price.

What I want to point out is that Android battery life is not poor, given how it was being used. I used S2 as an example because it was being laughed at. He wanna counter it with the reason its not similarly priced.

The point of this is not about price. Its about how its being used, how different it can be for both phones even when running same app like browser, which of course he disagree again.

Its pretty pointless but I just want to correct the statement. Android phones give decent battery life for what they achieve in comparison to Symbian for example. Same task, different experience. Of course smartphone experience. If wanna talk about camera, find sifu. Im noob again in photography.

Again, let me repeat, its not about price.. If you want to compare price, Android will goto hell cos you might as well add the cost of having mobile internet plan as without plan, many of the functions/features are render useless.

frankly speaking...both android n symbian have their own advantages n disadvantages...whether it is dual core or single core...even though i like android, as a e72 user(actually my e72 'mati' already but still can hidup lagi n rite now using nokia 1200) i would say dat u would use ur smartfon as a fon, no matter what ur fon is, either iphone, sgs2, atrix, defy,e72,e6, etc..it all comes back to the nature of the fon...dats y battery life is important...let say dat one day u go to a jungle trekking or family vacation..u got lost, n u r using fon dat r so powerfull with short battery life...even whatsapp cannot help u when ur fon is running out the battery, u cannot call, u cannot sms...dats y i said,,,its all comes back to the nature of the fon itself....

my point is, come on..its a fon...there is no point in arguing,,,ur fon is powerful, who cares...u do what u want with ur fon...if there is no desktp version, go install opera browser...then click desktop version...simple...even with dekstop version, u still need to zoom in...so whats the point having desktop version...better on9 using ur laptop..u got fully desktop experience,...

juz be hepi with ur own fon...if my 3310 still with me rite now...i would be hepi to compare it with sgs2...haha

as a nokia user..as long as i can check my email, surfing, playing games, call, sms, and have another 3days with single charge...i'll be happy..even if i got lost in the jungle, i know my fon still have a battery life..for sure whatsapp can help me thou..

E6 is definitely much better than E72 except for camera's auto-focus. If E6 vs Moto Defy, then you have to select based on what you need your phone for.

Go for E6 if :
1) you send a lot of SMS. Physical QWERTY is always the king
2) You don't want to charge your phone often (assuming that you use internet only once in a while)
3) you travel often and need a 100% FREE + reliable GPS device
4) You want a front camera for video call
5) You are more concerned about privacy while browsing internet etc

Go for Defy if :
1) you need to connect more often to internet to check emails, chat etc
2) you are a Facebook or other social network addict
3) you want to play games
4) you prefer to have variety of apps for you to download as and when you need
5) you don't sms very often
6) you don't mind charging a little frequent, e.g. within a day or two
7) you have a data plan or WiFi internet (optional). Most of the good apps/features in Android are internet dependent.

Yeah, auto focus will be the only thing that will make existing E72 users to think twice whether to upgrade or not.

But the camera is overall ok unless you often take photos of documents or something on a close up mode.

Not all Nokia phone has GPS, let alone compass. Even with GPS, do you think you have path to show? Just showing you in middle of nowhere. It does not matter what phones you have, in the wild, your basic instincts and survival skills matters, not some long lasting phone with GPS or whatsapp. There is no problem with your English, just that your example and explanation sucks.

Very funny meh?

Of course, it has improved quite a lot since these last few years, but still very dependant on the service provider and location. I cant get signal at all in certain places in my house with Digi and yet with Maxis always 3bars at least. If it works for you, you assume it must work for others? Your phone must be awesome cos can get coverage in jungle. The fella I knew that get lost in FRIM, unable to get any coverage to even call back and went on missing for 2days before he finally walked a great distance to finally get the signal to call for help. I never asked what phone he used, but judging from he was unable to get signal, must be something other than Nokia lor hmm.gif

Aiyoo, here also must argue Symbian & Android, Nokia & Samsung S2. We buy what we want according to each person's criteria of selection, taste & experience. I love to play with my E6, the durability of Nokia hardware is still good, not plastic mah. Call me old fashioned but I want it last min 3 years, so far only Nokia so faithful follow me.

Samsung, sorry lah, for me it's nice to see, nice to hold, fast to spoil. LCD Samsung tv, Desktop Monitors, kaput in less than 3 years. LG also can last longer. Handphone, 1.5 years also tak boleh, after warranty finish, bye2. Either Samsung dont like me or it's not fated. laugh.gif

Dunno why everywhere on the web, Android fans keep bashing Nokia, here less but still got arguement, haiz. Want see/get info on E6 also hard.

Now that you spoken, it's true that none of the Symbian 3 phones are made from plastic. Still, whether it's plastic or metal enclosure, there's nothing to cover the aging OS.

Anyway, comparison is just one of the method to find room for improvement for those who can't innovate. Look at new N9. Nokia does innovate something good but doesn't go too far from there.

To Nokia E6 users, do you have any charges from your telco such as RM0.15 for value added service sms after using this phone?

I've got 2 smses from value added services (number is 32424) and was charged RM0.15 for each sms.

1st sms was on the day I got my phone. Is there any software in Nokia E6 which is sending out smses without my knowledge? (for activation purpose etc)

For alternate model here how you access to it

You can unsubscribe it by going to applications >tools > My Nokia

1. video call
2. QWERTY
3. good camera
4. capable video player
5. decent pricing i.e. in the bracket of $600 - $800 ++ (how much does it sells for now anyway)

Well, I definitely wont recommend this unless you aim is solely for the QWERTY and battery life.

While it works just fine like any other Symbian Anna smartphone, there is one apparent thing that seperates them from this. Most of the apps are being designed for nHD (640x360) while E6 is 640x480. This result in quite a lot of apps not made available for it.

As for video playback, there is no problem with it except for the resolution yet again. You can only watch it in portrait mode and cant switch to landscape mode. Yes, the pixel density is high but its just too small to make any good use of the pixel density.

If you dont mind the 2.4 inch screen, it's great to watch videos.
I wanted a qwerty + good screen resolution, E6 fits the bill.
Good work+ personal phone. But the price that you want dont think can get.
Now its RM1,000+ for ori, the budget you have closer to E5

I tried this phone at a Nokia stall ( dunno what to call it, it's not a shop )

I felt really baffled when I press the middle button and it went into the clock application. rclxub.gif
Not used to this method since using all other Nokia phones, pressing middle button/menu button = menu. On this one need to use touch screen. But I find it quite nice considering it is an E-series. The feel of this phone is better than most other phones

i bet you never use Nokia smartphone [symbian]

there are menu button , plus it is E-series..., i admit that, i feel comfortable while typing on this keypad, it is comparable to my 9360 curve apollo, BUT, if people that used to use BB Bold series, will admit that , this one cannot match with the Bold keypad..

anyway, E6 is recommended to all people that want all in one phone[except for good camera though]

Doesn't change a damn thing about E6. It make it even worse right now. Although there are now widgets to toggle on/off some setting plus email, just too freaking small to be useful. Instead, the Homescreen got even smaller (should I say bigger) because you lose the side notifications, time/date, profile setting plus 12 icons for just 8 icons.

Was hoping that they had something special for E6 but just like the other. Wasted the PPI.

Dont buy really. This phone really sucks, unless all you need is the keyboard. Most of the apps/games that were available on other phone (i.e. N8, X7, C7, E7, 600, 700, 701) is not available on E6.

Don't worry, if one thing for sure, this phone really flies! Especially after the latest Nokia Belle update.
If you need the keyboard, in a Blackberry-esque form factor, with long battery life, and zippy interface, I'd say go for it!

As much as I want to disagree with you, I really have to say that Nokia really dropped the ball with Belle customization. What a waste of screen estate! Everything feels too cramped, not till the point of unuseable realm tho, but still, very jarring.

After using anna for more than 6 months i do prefer belle as i dont feel as lag as previous symbian. Manage to customise a bit, and still learning, moving around the widgets. The drop down menu is very convenient, easily on/off my WLAN and mobile data (not in any subscription at the moment)... the whole setup feels like android but with better screen resolution, but unfortunately in a smaller screen.

On a more important note, after upgrading i lost my "remind me" application! this is to be considered as the most important appl for E6 due to "notification issue"... not yet supported by belle. Whatsapp also gone! limited appl compatibility but will improve further in future..

E6 is a biz phone and not really suitable for high end multimedia or games. If u are into social networkgs and email services like me, i would advise on upgrading as it appears the batery last longer with same amount of usage.

ps- I use my galaxy S or tablet instead for multimedia and games! thumbup.gif

The E71 > E72 > E6 are all solid phones, with the E6 being the best of the three (the E71 probably had the best battery life).

I should know - I owned all three.

Now with the iPhone and Android around, Symbian looks old and outdated but this latest upgrade to Belle (Nokia dropped the Symbian name) makes the E6 pretty modern.

Yes, I agree with previous comment - the drop-down menu makes the E6 very Android-like.

And for those who didn't know, an app in the E6 called Vlingo gives the E6 Siri-like capabilities. Not as complete as the iPhone's Siri, but pretty impressive. For example, you can dictate (by voice) an sms message. And Vlingo has one advantage over Siri - it understands your English better!!

With this upgrade, the E6 is as good as it can get, although I am not sure the E6's non-autofocusing camera has been improved...

The small screen makes the E6 bad for games or serious browsing but then again you cannot get a bigger screen with that capable keyboard on the phone.

Why sad? If you buy one, I think you'll be sad. E6 has limited apps compared to the rest of Symbian phones.

I think a lot of 2nd hand units selling in garage sales.

Try using a handsfree and check if you can hear the other party. If yes, most likely there is a problem with the receiver earpiece or the connector.
