QUOTE(Star_knight79 @ Feb 5 2011, 01:48 AM) Shouldn't be. Go to: Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > All. Then find Market. From there, click clear cache and force stop. Now try installing the z4root.apk again. For all of your hanged app installation, can cancel download and re-download.QUOTE(silentser @ Feb 5 2011, 08:42 AM) anyone could understand what is being said here? Nice find! From what I understandhttp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=881941 - stops the stock glgps_samsungJupiter daemon (in linux it is called daemon. In windows, they call it background service) - rename it to glgps - edit jupiter.xml for optimizations - put all the files back to the phone - start the new daemon, the glgps and invoke the new jupiter.xml and 'job name Then he goes on showing what modifications he made to jupiter.xml I think the att version -s tweaked from AT&T captivate, google version is tweaked from nexus s, control-plane, I don't know. Obviously he still need to do more tests to see which settings will give the best gps performance. One word of caution, If you guys want to try this, please backup your files first Must be rooted. Open terminal emulator . CODE $ mkdir /sdcard/gps_backup $ su # cp /system/bin/gpsd/glgps_samsungJupiter /system/bin/gpsd/glgps_samsungJupiter.bak # cp /system/etc/jupiter.xml /system/etc/jupiter.xml.bak # cp /data/gps/secgps.conf /data/gps/secgps.conf.bak # cp /system/bin/gpsd/glgps_samsungJupiter /system/etc/jupiter.xml /data/gps/secgps.conf /sdcard/ Or use root explorer if you bought it. But need to set permission to all three files when you have to restore to the original one I think. Renaming the files from .bak file is safer. From this command, you have two sets of backups. One, the .bak files which retains the files permission. The second set is in the internal sdcard under gps_backup folder. I suggest using adb if you want easy cut-and-paste the commands. Or just use chrome-to-phone to copy the commands to the phone's clipboard wirelessly. In other news, I tested super-optimized kernel for overnight testing last night. From 2.00am-8.30am, only drops from 98% to 94% (less than 1%/hour drain) I had battery-fu to switch off all data and wifi from 12-6am and switched on wifi for every 30minutes for 2 minutes after 6am. I also have underclocked the cpu using xan's voltage control app. I'm getting better idle battery life using undervolted SOK than speedmod (1%/hour drain) |

QUOTE(Star_knight79 @ Feb 5 2011, 11:21 AM) Thank you so much for your help. Knocked out yesterday. Not try yet. Will do later. No reason why web android market would not work with rooted and custom roms phones. Mine works fine. Those who cannot use it could be due to bad root or custom rom. Or it could just be some login issue.Anyway I saw engadget mentioned that the new Android Market Website doesn't not work with Rooted Device. Is like a jailbreak iphone 4??? Is it possible for us to unroot our device :-p Added on February 5, 2011, 2:02 pm I appreciate for the sharing. But I feel not secure to do it this way coz there are some uncertainties from you. :-p What uncertainty? Starting from scratch by odin is of course the best way. This clean install will avoid many problems that may crop up. However, IMO cwm route is always the safer method. |

QUOTE(mikecmy @ Feb 5 2011, 08:27 PM) Most themes are compatible with doc's and darkyy.. After flashing custom rom, just download and of the theme's CWM, and flash away.Remember to make a backup of your theme first in case of a bad theme, addon: This is only optional and not required. If you have problem with a theme, just flash another one. How to backup your theme from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=899471 QUOTE HOW TO MAKE A BACKUP FLASHABLE ZIP OF YOUR CURRENT THEME: This post has been edited by gmhafiz: Feb 5 2011, 11:08 PMUsing 7-zip or WinRAR, take a look inside the downloaded theme zip file. In there browse to the /system/framework and /system/app folders - these are the files that get installed. What you need to do is make a note of the file names, then go to your phone and make a copy of the same files from /system/framework and /system/app to a folder on your sdcard. Then copy this folder over to your pc. Make a copy of the theme zip and call it e.g. mybackup.zip. Open mybackup.zip and copy the files you've backed up into their respective folders, overwriting the ones that are already there. Close 7-zip/WinRAR and you're done. Backup created. You can flash it using ClockworkMod recovery. |

QUOTE(klwong99 @ Feb 5 2011, 08:42 PM) Thanks for sharing with the important apps list. Easy. Before flashing, just open the custom rom zip file with 7zip and delete the apk that you do not want. If you have flashed, use root explorer and navigate to /system/app folder and delete it.Could you pls give a guideline on how to uninstall the some apps pre-installed in the phone or came together with the ROM, like, ThinkFree Office? Thx! |

QUOTE(klwong99 @ Feb 5 2011, 10:00 PM) Thx gmhafiz and noobie1, but i still curious just delete .apk file mean uninstall the app already? Can delete or rename - will uninstall the app. Example: thinkfree.apk.bak. Can rename the file to thinkfree.apk if you want the app back.Pre-installed data files or cache still keeping in the phone, rite? Not sure if it will delete files in the dbdata or cache. But files on /sdcard will be left alone. |

I agree. Although kies is a really bad piece of software, it is a good starting point for newbies. Later on, can introduce other softwares.Hope TS will consider about your suggestion. |

Looks like you managed to root. Congrats. After you make all the backups, you can install speedmod kernel I manage to install the phone. But I got the notification prompting that... root unsucessful device is rebooting. After reboot, my phone respond has become even more sluggish. Like snail!! I really need urgent help here! Anyone please??? (for your info, I remove the SD Card when I use z4root) I have redownload the file. And this time, the file is functioning. And I manage to install z4root and root my device successfully. I think previously, the file I download from the first page link file size is not tally. I just don't know why. I'd like to debunk the many apps=lag myth. Android is built on linux, not windows where you have legacy codes and registry. Unless the app loads at boot or run at background, it won't slow down your phone no matter how many apps you have.Seems better than normal kernel, but still a bit sluggish. Is it because I install too many apps (~144 apps) ???? Can Do anything to improve on that? Any Sifu here? Besides, I'm looking to get a car charger, second battery and even dock charger? Any suggestion? however, live wallpaper always slow down the app scrolling no matter which rom I use. QUOTE(Star_knight79 @ Feb 7 2011, 02:05 PM) I really "boh song" liao. Quadrant is optimized for snapdragon processor, like in HD2. Galaxy S uses hummingbird. quadrant is very bad at benchmarking hummingbird. My brother hacked his HTC HD2 to Android and the Score for Quadrant is 1236 - 1400. Damn it!!!!!!!! I used to have 2200+ quadrant using OCLF with eclair. Now, my quadrant score is 1300+ is a lot smoother and faster with my current setup (custom rom + optimized kernel) So, ditch quadrant benchmark app. |
