Flipping pages of 100kb size pdf format is slow using adobe. Ipad is alot smoother although it has half the ram. Is anyone else experiencing the same thing?

Bad news: I accidentally made spb shell my default launcher and it keeps on asking me to activate sad.gif

Good news: Time to test another rom after long time using insanity!

i'm using stock rom..
so far, lot of forumer here use Darky's rom v9.3 if not mistaken.. smile.gif

but.. since yesterday, lot of us keep try the new launcher with new UI which is SPB Shell.. smile.gif
you can reset the default by go to Manage Application > SPB Shell > Clear Default..

*
I never flashed darkyy's before. Always doc's or insanity.

I'd clear default if I could but now I only get a black screen with top notification bar because fallback is spb shell which is not activated. Downloading Simply Galaxy ROM 2.2.1 SweetHoney now.

u can go to task manager to uninstall the spb shell... =)

haha forgot about that. but too late, I have already flashed insanity cwm version that I have in the sdcard by going into recovery mode (always a good thing to leave a cwm one in the sdcard. can avoid odin). Going to transfer the simple galaxy rom now. I'll give feedback after a few days use.

no matter which country got first as long as it is out there ALL of us can enjoy  thumbup.gif  that what i loike so much on this phone

True, since the bootloader is not locked, it is very hacker friendly unlike other manufacturers.

Quick review of simply galaxy sweet rom (what a mouthful!)
- beautiful honeycomb theme - modified circle battery mod, icon, dialer, among others.
- everything is faster than insanity. Maybe because animations are all off compared to the previous rom and I have avoided installing apps that may slow down the phone.
- idle battery drain is excellent. 5%/9 hours. Will test this again tonight.
- there are few unnecessary apps like quick boot, social hub, memo and others. I think they try to make a complete rom. Certainly not a minimalistic rom like insanity. Of course, can change all this manually.
- finally, spb shell works, insanity 0.5.3 didn't.

So far I'm satisfied and will stay with it for a while. The rom maker seems like a cheerful and friendly person. Recommended.

Bro, i would like to try this ROM as well. But follow the instruction from the thread Simply Galaxy ROM, if i'm on Darky 9.2 now, i must first flash to 2.2 first? then only flash to 2.3?
*
If from darkyy, the rom maker said better to flash stock firmware first (start fresh and clean, preferably eclair rom jm8 because it has 2e recovery) because darkyy rom is difficult to remove. With 2e recovery, download both 2.2 base and 2.3 update with a reboot in between.

For other rom, just download both cwm zip file and flash from recovery mode, with a boot in between to let it deodexed.

Ok, then i can flash to DOC rom first or Flagship rom first, then only flash to this ROM, right? What do you mean by 'with a boot in between to let it deodexed'?
*
He didn't say other custom rom although theoritically, doc's rom should work too.

After installing 2.2, reboot your phone. Then hold power button for the recovery mode shortcut. In the recovery mode, install the 2.3 update.

The reboot must be done to let the rom deodexed. If you notice, first boot takes a long time. Cannot flash other cwm packages in the same recovery mode instance. This is true for flashing all other rom.

Normal. Linpack, like quadrant is not optimized for hummingbird chip used in galaxy s.

any better way to benchmark for our phone?
*
RyanZa is developing realbench but I haven't looked into it for a long time. Can search for it in xda i9000 development forum. Neocore can be used for gpu. But remember that there is a 56fps cap in our galaxy s. Something that many reviewers don't know/forget about it and makes the conclusion that galaxy s' gpu ability is less powerful.

TBH, I don't care about benchmark. What I care is our phone operate smoothly and has excellent battery life contributed by the combination of optimized rom, kernel and theme.

true... just that it feels bad when ppl with no knowledge slaps us in our face with their so called high benchmark

any new roms worth trying??

using simple galaxy rom with ext4 lagfix. Fast, smooth and beautiful.

QUOTE(headhunter7 @ Feb 27 2011, 10:44 AM)
Even though it's a little new of a revamp, I won't be touching SPB shell, if you were using a winmo installed spb shell, it somehow limits the phone and when you get down deep into the screen it'll show back the original theme. I think a whole new ROM whole be better, cleaner interface, yadayada. But guys, do remember flashing too much ain't good either. I believe it's something like a format of a pc, you wouldn't overdo it, risk of ruining the harddisk. Another would be flashing too many times.. why aren't you using your phone laugh.gif

Hehe my .230423 cents smile.gif
*
I like the new interface, can show off to iPhone friends. Pretty funtional too although I'd like more customization. But I'd like it to have less ram consumption.

Yes, formatting and defragmenting too many times can shorten the lifetime of your PC hard disk. Flash disk has even shorter lifetime than traditional hard disk. Which is why our pen drive can die quickly. But we need to find out more about the flash disk in our phone.

Try to use a non-wipe rom whenever possible if flashing a same base as there will be less data read/write.

Hi, appreciate your feedback on Simple Galaxy ROM Sweethoney.

1) Is SPB Mobile Shell working properly?

2) While replying a thread in Lowyat Forum , does the screen always scroll up/down until I can't see the text i'm typing?

Item 2 is really irritating me on Doc or Darky's ROM. Flagship ROM was okay but has some setback, ie front camera, contact bug etc.

Thanks
*
1. Yup.
2. Same, screen scrolls up and down.

Flashing can shorten the lifespan of our phone? Since 3 weeks ago I learn how to flash. I have flash N times already. I almost have most rom in the XDA forum. I experience Darky, Doc, Flagship, CyanogenMod, Ultimate and now on Insanity. Maybe later try to the Simple rom. Feel that Insanity rom pretty snappy and fast. Really like it.
Meanwhile, Fornaxlife how you download the DamianGTO Ultimate kernel? I register as XDA member but I can not download it from XDA. Any idea??
*
If you look here, our NAND flash is rated at 5k-10k cycles. I have never read anyone scared about flash drive wear and tear among the flasholics. I guess, it's fine.

I read through this thread while googling for the NAND wear level: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=800353
I don't know much about the file systems. What I know is that ext4 has more overhead than ext2. but I remember hardcore said about changes he made in ext4 code that made it to have less read/write than RFS. Less read/write = less wear = longer life.

I'm scared to use ext2 because it doesn't have journaling. But damiangto claims that his kernel users do not encounter any problem with it.

JFS is another interesting file system. nitr8 used it in his earlier rom. I found that JFS was noticeably smoother than ext4, and has less overhead as well. But now he seems contempt with RFS only.

My conclusion. No matter what file system you use, the NAND flash drive should last 2-3 years on normal usage. Now, I am no longer afraid to test new roms thumbup.gif

How long did you take to finish all that? shocking.gif Super!

Added on February 27, 2011, 10:47 pmOn simple galaxy rom 2.2.1: While using ZSJPE modem on edge, I got 5%/4hours. Got a lot less idle battery than when wifi (5%/9hours drain) is switched on. Wifi signal is strong anyway. ZSJPE It is probably slightly better than JPP modem because I got 7%/8hours drain + battery-fu app with it.

All while using speedmod kernel with ext4 lagfix thumbup.gif
