usually higher end bodies have microadjustment/AF fine tuning..by that u can try out ur focusing is correct onot. if got rajin, the whole day can try from +20 drop 1 by 1 to -20

duno if entry level bodies got this feature onot. but usually its kinda important for those who do macrowork. and usually 3rd party lenses oni have this back/front focusing issue. dont know if normal nikkor lenses got onot.
actually its called AF fine tune for a reason...to fine tune the already somewhat accurate AF of lenses...nikkor lenses included.
some nikkor lenses on respective bodies will of cos look somewhat sharp or slightly soft but still in focus at 0, but it can be fine tuned to be sharper depending what value its set.
i doubt the AF fine tune can help a 3rd party lens thats seriously back or front focus.
this site has a good explanation.
