QUOTE(eugenechiuu @ Jan 18 2011, 07:59 PM) many years ago they used to be bad and easily breakdown, many ppl still have the old perception that Acer is unreliable like 8 years ago... I havent owned an Acer, but alot of sellers and computer technicians advice against it. One even confirming my theory that the way they sell so many units is by offering high specs at a good price, but this is made possible by sacrificing good build quality. If the machine's construction is under par, it wouldnt allow said high spec'd hardware to perform to its best ability. Heating issues, compatibility issues, parts malfunctioning (keyboard, screen..etc). And for me personally, if I am spending alot of time on a laptop, like digital painting, 3d modelling...I would like the laptop I work with to be strong, sleek and beautiful looking...it needs to 'feel' loved. Acers are comparible to those V-tech children's toy laptops.http://www.drtoy.com/images/items/vtech_1999_b.jpg Things like the keyboard is so vital when comes to giving the user a pleasurable experience, it being the main input device, where you and the computer 'meet' if you will. Your hands are on it half the time eh. The dude who bought the 5750G recently, he's already brought up issues with the tacky keyboard. Plus I've heard not so good reviews about their after sale service. Even Cnet reviewers consistently complain about their craftsmanship. It would be wiser to pay a couple of hundred dollars more and get a better designed machine, even if its at slightly lower specs. Nowadays Asus, another mid-range notebook like Acer, but only slightly more expensive, offer similar specs with a little better designs. The final nail on the coffin being its reliability. I saw the new Asus brochure pdf some where on here for Jan/Feb...and it says Nasa astronauts prefer Asus notebooks for their reliability. With so many people on the forum, including my self, leaving abroad soon for uni, the Asus 2 year international warranty should be very enticing. What Dell2011 said is so true. Agree with you mate. Acer laptops are not good quality laptops.
About the astronoaut using Asus laptops is true. An expedition team that went to the peak of Mount Everest also uses an Asus laptop and they said that their laptop never fail them even though its below freezing point there. I would relly reccomand Asus laptop for anyone that would add a few extra bucks for quality |

However, I would advice you to wait till around Feb/March, if you're not in a hurry to get a notebook. As the new XPS 15 would carry the SB processor at the same price range you're buying the previous gen i7. So this way, you are getting more value! and believe me, the SB processor is worth the wait. The entry level i7 kills the previous gen's high end i7. Not only in terms of gaming, but processing speed of applications, multitasking, power consumption...etc. The onboard GPU is strong enough to handle HD vids, so if you are not plugged in, use the nVidia gpu feature to switch to onboard automatically and seamlessly, and you can still view at high quality with fraction of the battery usage. The new i7 has considerably stronger heat management too, allowing your hardware to last that bit longer. And finally, the new XPS 15 has not even been announced, so who knows, theyd prolly have new addon features like a matte screen! PS - u shud be doing more cardio now, to get definition ;D This post has been edited by Dell2011: Jan 18 2011, 09:27 PM |
