You can force certain apps to run with the GT40 turned on using the Nvidia control panel, but for what it's worth the switch between IGP and dGPU is done automatically.

Nvidia Optimus is different from ATI switchable because it's switches automatically for you when doing intensive work while ATI's u can switch manually...

Idle means opening no programs and leaving the computer there..
*
Okay understand now, switch automatically and can force if wanted too.
Thanks.

What High end gaming do u mean? Full HD reso with 8x AA??
If just HD resolution + 2xAA, 540M can play most recent games smoothly.. No need wait for N53SN since won't be much better also for the steep price difference..

XPS15 is out of the topic unless u wait till they refresh to SB during March

Apparently a forummer posted it could last 4hours on light web-browsing... Which is awesome for a quad-core..

acer laptop got warranty seal on hdd/ram cover below the laptop

on the day when i m about to bring my notebook to highpoint for ram upgrading (got warranty seal on the screw), the highpoint personnel told me just open it and dun bother about the seal as the seal is to ensure there is no tampering/parts switching by resellers, dun know how true is that but that is what they told me (dun hv black & white tho' sweat.gif )

When Dell puts the new SB processors in their XPS 15 line, how much would the price jump up from where its at now? Would it be above 4k?

I can vouch for this also. Sent a lot of Acer's in for warranty after both RAM and Hard Disk upgraded, without much problems.

The tampering/parts switching is a problem especially if you source your laptops from certain places in Lowyat. Their spec would never be the same as what's stated in the box, and sometimes you get conned by getting old parts instead of new when you buy certain upgrades.

They especially like acer because of the very low entry price.
