GANTZ O

A good full 3DCG movie. 7/10 Must watch if you have read Gantz manga. This one is better than the shoddy live action movies.

Based on Osaka Arc focusing only on Kato. An attempt to reboot the series in the future? I hope so!

eg.
DB Beerus & Resurrection F movies --> then DB:Super
Berserk 3 part reboot movies --> then Berserk TV

Kong: Skull Island (2017)

It is MIND BOGGLING that Peter Jackson's King Kong (2005) is 12 years old!!

So, is this new iteration supposed to be The Son of King?

Not quite.

It is actually more accurate to say King Kong (2005) is a remake of King Kong (1933). Kong: Skull Island (2017) is kinda sorta a remake of King Kong (1976).

Whereas this movie is short more practically (realistic?), compare to King Kong (2005), the 2005 version has... more heart.

Whereas this movie tries to me more grounded (takes place after Vietnam), compared to King Kong (2005), the 2005 version has more soul...

There are so many characters here that makes me feel what the heck is he here!! Too many to state here, my biggest cringe is Tom Hiddleston. I really think he is mis-cast.

Half the time I am expecting him to betray everyone!!!

The only silverlining for me is the John C. Reilly character. Otherwise this would have been a total fail.

Not a very well delivered movie... Baddd Warner Bros...

Logan (2017)

Finally, they got a Wolverine movie right.

There has always been a certain level of "bleakness" in the X-Men franchise (be it comic book or movies) and in terms of bleak, this movie takes the cake. The bleakness is palpable.

And yet the ending... All I can say is thank goodness for Canada!!

I think both Patrick Steward and Hugh Jackman had gone of the record that they are done with their respective X Characters and boy is this the crowning jewel to cap the character off!! (Er... no pun intended).

They got the story right.

The got the tone right.

The actors brought their A game

It must have been a bitter sweet experience for Hugh, since Wolverine brought him international fame!!

The kids are also great in this.

If you have not watched this, ask yourself this, why not??

Beauty and the Beast is banned in Malaysia. Flock my kiddies, flock to your nearest cinema and watch this (before they ban this here!! Why? In their opinion, Wolverine got TOO CLOSED to Professor X... laugh.gif).

It is DEFINITELY worth your dime.

Assassin's Creed - Flaccid cinema at its best.
There's only so much you can "art-housing" the lame premise. While the aesthetic aspect is pleasing...the pacing and story just flat out disaster. Felt the brain behind all of it couldn't elevate the dull stroyline from the game to be something more profound. Or they just misplaced the priority in preserving the core game story instead pushing the envelope forward. Marion Cottilard just had that uninterested "what have I got into" look all the time. Also have they not realized the most boring aspect of the game is the modern timeline while we are engaged with the ancestor's timeline.
After all I'm still curious to see Justin Kurzel's next movie even with this crapfest because I really dug his creative vision.

Moonlight
Another rave up movie bored me to death. Not sure what is so good about this movie. Maybe because its too artistic for me? or probably because my skepticism on gay in general that makes me lost interest and can't wait for the movie to end.

Fences
Good movie, great performance. Not really interested at story line but still got me hooked probably because of the fantastic acting. Super fast non-stop talking in the beginning almost put me off.

Manchester By The Sea
At first I thought this movie is about the one in the UK, haha. Super depressing movie, with everything depressing on high setting, score, theme, color and especially the main actor face. And its super slow pace also but everything else is great. Terrific acting, nice dialogue, and the characters I can relate to. Its like enjoying a nice slow ride on a road by the valley. Never felt boring due to interesting characters and neat dialogue. Love the movie.

Edge of Seventeen
I never knew they still make a good teen movie nowadays. Enjoyed this movie a lot. Again, another terrific performance with nice and neat script and dialogue. Really funny at times too. I love the interactions and banter between main girl and her teacher played by Woody Harrelson. Neat stuff. But the ending is a bit cringy for me after all time the movie being uncringeworthy. But I guess that just how the thing is, its not really that I have any idea to end the movie in another way. Liked this one the most among all the bunch I watched.

Power Rangers (2017)

Er... Go Go Power Rangers?

Not the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie (1995), the latest iteration!

So... how is it?

Surprisingly good.

Alot of credit for me goes to Matthew J. Lloyd!! Who is he? He is the director of photography for this movie.

His shots are fantastic!!

They took a more... realistic approach to the movie and it works! (Eg. not camp)

This has similar feel to Max Steel (2016) and the different is?.... The got the characters right, meaning you actually learn more about Jason (Red Ranger), Kimberly (Pink Ranger), Billy (Blue Ranger), Zack (Black Ranger) & Trini (Yellow Ranger).

The actually person, not the power rangers. Flaws and all, and it is when they recognized their own flaws, they were able to move on.

I actually like this movie.

I actually cannot find any major negative for this movie.

The got the ranger armours right.

They got the Zords right. Even the Megazord.

Who would have thunk that Elizabeth Banks (Director of Pitch Perfect 2) would be so great as Rita Repulsa! Let alone Bryan Cranston would be.... Zordon!!

Looks like Lionsgate got a hit on their hands, and it may just turn into a movie franchise for them.

Actually I can think of one negative, but overall, it is trivial...

So, go watch it kiddies!

You know you want to!!

Life - Essentially Alien for babies. I think the movie pulled off the concept well, but not quite enough to satisfy those who were familiar with Alien-horror genre.

Good: the alien attack were gruesome rclxm9.gif , all the casts are solid, the ending is...interesting.

Bad: some tracking shots goes on too long while remaining uninteresting, too many instances of "inside" views when interesting stuff were happening outside, not enough alien attack, some inconsistencies and bad editing towards the end.

5.5/10 IMO. Do note that our cinema apparently censored all swear words to get PG13 rating, it's really disappointing.

Similar movie to recommend: Alien, Europa Report, Prometheus.

Life is quite entertaining. 7/10
It's like the sister to Alien, which it take place in ISS instead of Alien's spaceship.
Creature is smart, brutal and a survivalist.
Recommended to watch.
