Just had changed my HU.

HU Pioneer DEH8350 (my option)
speakers maestro CS 6508 concept (recommended by him)
Voltage Stabalizer

Howie is very pro. He tries to Understand what I wanted and recommended me what I needed. Even explain some terms and what I should do next. He didn't push me to buy buy buy.

I will surely recommend my friends to look for him smile.gif

I think for RM500, we can get the door speaker holder+component set.
Add another RM600 for HU and the HU bracket. Not included installation. Only my guess.
But for me, better to do it all at 1 go. Easier+time saving.

well, buy spk free amp or buy amp free speaker gimmick is everywhere. you buy a low cost item at higher price and then they give u another low cost item to compensate your feeling making you feel worth it.

You can own a RM10,000 setup or a RM3000 setup.

It doesn't matter.

As long as you can squeeze every ounce of juice from your system and enjoy the sound it makes, it's a good system.

Just don't gatal and go audit other people's systems and poison yourself. Hehehe

I went and paid Howie a visit at EA yesterday. Supposed to redo wiring only. End up add tweeter, change amp to 4ch and add woofer ><

Good workmanship, nice sound even for budget setup =P Gonna invest more for my City.

But now iPod cannot play =(

Yea. my best driving experience is when your music totally enveloped your surrounding sound. no engine sound, no road noise. just pure solid music to your ears. very relaxed

Titanium where can spoil so easily la dude. High melting point and even so thin will not have issues. I think the plastic around it will deform first before the titanium does. Anyway you have basic tinting right? that should be more than enough to protect

its mp3 and its compressed, end of story.

however, ive said and ill say again: if you're not having mid-high end ICE (or any audio equipment) for that matter, having mp3 and CD wont have much (if any) differences at all. that is of course assuming you are ripping it from direct CD source using highest quality (320kbit) without compromise or VBRs

What the brand for subwoofer?

Still in planning either put subwoofer Phoenix Gold 12" or JL Audio W0 10" and buy amp 4 channel only for driving front speaker....

- Sierra 4 channel RM1300
- Macrom m2a.4000 RM800
- Orion hp4600 rm1000
- Focal solid 4 rm1400

sound proof doesnt completely seal the sound within inside...

perhaps your mid still doesnt sound good because of phase shift or off phase issues... smile.gif

i used sth like the noise absorption mat tht mywifecar is selling in d insides of my 4 doors n some on d door panel to prevent rattling. still using stock speakers though tongue.gif still lookin for d best speaker tht doesn't need an amp to push. my hu allows d rears to be used as sub so i channel anything below 160 hz thr but my front mids r still full range. i know its a lil too high to cross but its to compensate for my lack of bass in front. any comments?

Do you know exactly what you use for your door?? Dynamat can be considered as butyl also. Take pic can? Speaker crap or not, soundproof can help too...
But of course, eventually you will realize that stock speaker is crap. laugh.gif

Go Ace hardware and get those L-shaped brackets and bolt down your woofer to the boot floor board. If you're hardworking enough, setup a clip system to clip the woofer in place so it's easily removable. Or get a long strip of velcro from a tailor and velcro your sub to your floor board

my RM2 DIY
I use 2 pcs of anti-slip rubber.(the one people use to put handphone on dashboard.) - non-slip n removable..
if semi-permanent installation, try double sided tape.
both method will have no screw holes mark on the car n woofer box.

double side tape is not strong enough. ACE hardware sells velcro. Get those industrial strength velcro is good enough to hold the sub in place

bro howie, my satria neo stock HU is already good for me as i'm not really an audiophile. my complaint is the rattling sound from the front speaker when i crank up the volume~ can sound dampening resolves this issue? it feels like the trims on the door is a bit longgar thus will vibrate when i crank up the volume... please advice~ and let say if i want to upgrade ICE later, do i need to redo the sound dampening? i mean, do i have to buy new mat?

Hi Howie,

I would like to change my car audio system...could u send me ur map?I will drive my car (honda city 07) over and u can suggest me on the audio system.

or if u can pm me the recomended brand first aso can! Here are the things I might want to change:

1. Change my cd player to the ones with USB function (preferably pioneer)
2. Change my speaker
3. Add amplifier
4. Woofer (optional)

I would prefer clear sound (SQ) but with a lil bit of bass too...I play R&B & hiphop songs more...

erm... i m not really satisfied wid the work done by EA... brought my satria neo over last year to fix a set of comps n to buy an amp n sub from EA. im not happy over a few issues..
Firstly.. my car was not properly tuned... it was only after i went home n remove my seat dat i realised dat the amp was hardly tuned.. after while of tuning myself den only i was satisfied wid my car's audio..

Now the worst and most annoying problem is due to improper cutting/drilling by one of the workers at EA my left door trim now starts to rattle badly when certain frequencies of the midbass play.. i do not know y but now only it starts to rattle after so many months.. i've removed both door trims for comparison n have spotted the reason for the rattling.. one of the workers drilled through the plastic mountings holding my door trim!

maybe i'm the unlucky one out of their vast customers.... but i just have to voice my displeasure...

it's not dat i realise it now. it just started to appear like 2 weeks ago... i'm pretty observant wid the sound of my car.. i cant explain y it suddenly started to rattle.

that aside.. could u help me fix dat rattling noise? den atleast i would feel more happy wid my money spent at EA...

i've already tried to fix the rattling by glueing the trim back.. but dat just reduce the rattling... its still rattles when the volume is high..

the thing is.. the rattling is cause due to an error of one of ur worker... if i rmb correctly u did my right door where else your colleague did my left door... he drilled the plastic mountings holding the trim... there are 4 mounts.. all 4 got drilled through.... i need to show u for u to understand. u did the right door correctly dats y its working perfectly till today.

i'm quite busy during this period but i will try to visit you on next week monday.

haha 11 years ady, buy new car la. remember i mentioned bout my front bumper? i go fix, but neighbor go kiss it and drop off again. damn kao hate him, but yea the point of me mentioning it is, its time for the car to go.

last weekend just replaced all the water hoses/tubes and radiator pump, water leaking/pump not working, radiator/temps going haywire. prior that replaced the sparkplug cables and 1 spark plug.
pretty much, the money i spent on the car excluding ICE, you can almost buy a pretty decent 2nd hand proton/myvi etc after topping up somemore lol.

so yeah, really looking forward to the new car in the future lol

LOL INSPIRA

never thought id get that myself. but yeah i've already set my mind on honda civic or equivalent/better car. maximum budget in the 120-130k range. (thats what a civic cost)

by the time i buy a new car, i fear inspira won't be japanese parts already since 3 years is a long enough time for msia to pariah'fy the car wwwwww
atm yeah, its pretty much the best choice considering how much you save to have a >90% japanese part mitsu Lancer.

haha how you know?

well, looks/preferences aside, having a non hatchback car is also better for ICE since i definitely prefer a ported 12" sub over sealed ones, much less 10inchers or less.

being a hatchback would mean sacrificing trunk space for a big 12" ported sub and that wouldn't be too ideal either if you need the trunk space. totally experienced it during my singapore trip driving down with 3 passengers. 4 person's luggage and shopping, return trip was quite the nightmare on stuffing the car/trunk LOL

ported. and as the name implies, theres a port at the box, a hole if you will. so that the sub can draw more air and thus capable of producing deeper and/or louder bass.

After 2 days of hassle, I have acquired my dream Crossfire amp. Components have been driven per expectation after fine tuning done on the amp itself and tweeter's position. Still need to work out some budget to improve the vocal clarity and perhaps vocal positioning. Appreciate Howie's patience in sharing some technical aspect of car amplifier. Am pursuing a more vocal oriented ambience. Regret to drag your time. smile.gif

Got my entire ICE system re-wired by Howie today, must say it made a great noticeable difference in terms of bass punching after all proper wiring is done to my ICE an car-pc smile.gif. Thumbs up for good workmanship, and most importantly, patience and pricing =)

Hi all....
tumpang OP threat here....thx thx...
I used to be AG (automotive genesis) happy customer.....they are the main CULPRIT to bring me into SQ!! cool.gif cool.gif
those were the days when howie still drive his kancil with an Eton sub (howie, correct me if i'm wrong, can't really remember....lolz) in IB setup! rclxub.gif i still remember i can feel the deep bass in the toilet when he's playing some music at shop front....
many thx to the team...they're like the angels in the dark, after 2 years of wasting money installing TONS OF CRAPs from various local audio shops, i finally found them...its a great experience dealing with them, the whole team is full with enthusiasm in audio and performance. I was stunned when i was offered the chance to audition a few different sets of components before i made my final decision. thumbup.gif that's when i know finally, i can be a loyal customer! =) (btw, howie, drex and guan, i'm the uni student driving black saga, installed the Impact components and Impact subwoofer..don't know whether u guys remember me? tongue.gif )

without bad experiences, you wouldn't know what's good. All in all, i'm glad to went tru 2 yrs of wasting, because only then, i know how great they (EA autoworks team) are..keep up the good work...

I will be visiting you guys and share my experience when i'm back to m'sia... =)

I was considerably doubtful while walking in to install my ICE. Unlike conventional accessory shop that the sales guy keeps pestering to take this and that. EA presents the technical specs and experience to the customer, analyze the pros and cons and make up the right thing to suit your budget. I would say I was surprised that EA are run by group of university graduates; thinking twice, they are group of car enthusiast with technical background which differentiate themselves from their business. Guess this is the competitive advantage against other competitors. Till then, I guess I am lucky to get to know them and would acquire anything I need from them. Have installed Xfire BMF600.4 from them recently. More pics to show in near future. smile.gif

More pics to show in near future. smile.gif

btw I just collected my scosche car holder and lol this myr 100 scosche car windscreen phone holder seems very f***ing promising lol

For starters, it has NO MECHANISM on the holder so there is no chance to fail that. And the build looks damn solid biggrin.gif

Ensure the tough stuff is replaced, will ya? And 1 GM T shirt I forget to claim from him. I need him to compensate my temporary mental breakdown while seeing my poor little black box being tortured which literally induce my impulsiveness in blowing a hole in my pocket. Subsequently, this chain effect urge 2 of us to step on our amp in front of EA Auto.

Sorry tumpang thread..
My first visit to EA today, wanted to snoop around for a hu. Took Howie's advice and went for P80 instead of 117E. installation was no brainer. Overall the sound has not reached my expected level just yet - i think becoz lack of amp, the doors didn't help either.. it does not come with a decent soundproof..

Thanks Howie! now i need to soundproof the DOORS! road noise disruption is alot more obvious on the way back home. appreciate the advice..

P.S:- dont forget my manual smile.gif and u still owe me promotional stuffs for my next visit tongue.gif will get my doors sorted out first.

yea of course can trust him, i dunno him, but the review of his works and the man himself is unquestionable, actually last year i recommended my brother to install alarm system there, toyota harrier indian guy(i dunno howie remember or not), my brother was very happy with the workmanship and they way they deal with customer, not being very pushy and great explanation of product and of course their installation.

Should have sent my car to you to install instead. Sent mine to a reputable guy in ZTH to RM430 for the 898g and i can see the technician is not that familiar with this alarm. Some of the features like the starter immobilisation and anti-hijack system isn't working which the starter immobilisation he claim coz he haven't connect a wire which i'll drop by again tomorrow to do while the anti-hijack system requires your car to have a fuel-pump cut-off to work which my car lacks. And also the 2-level alarming system isn't working too. Instead of hit one time, alarm beeps a few times and stops then goes off after a 2nd hit, mine when it detects shock beeps 4 times then straight away go off. no 2-level alarming rclxub.gif that wan pulak he claim he have to check with his supplier and he'll tell me how tomorrow doh.gif

haihz... if only you were located in Subang instead of Bukit Bintang. No need think straight go to you LOL laugh.gif

say if i want to send my car for your service (heard that your workmanship is excellent, based on this thread), is it possible for you to rectify rattling noise problem? i asked service centre to check for it, but they fail to rectify the problem.

Hi TS..
Tumpang ur thread since mine also myvi..

Currnetly running active 3 way via P80rsii..

Planing to upgrade 4 way active very soon..

My questions is.. If stick to P80, add in 2.5" mid.. What should i do?
Add another 2 channel amp?

Which 1 better between dls UR2.5 & UP2.5?

And then regarding sub.. 12" vs 10".. Same model, just size different?
10" more suitable for sq setup?
More responsive?

Need advice from all sifu..

4-way active? I don't think achievable via P80. Unless you have other way of setup... If let go P80, let me know ya~

Also for sub, always 12" la... I don't think size has anything to do with SQ, although I am only using 10" sub.

Since yours is a Myvi, guess you will need to find more space.

Anyway, nice setup you have~! smile.gif

I think you can get decent sound with a 2k budget but you won't be able to get everything at one go. In my case I got a new amp, Dynoaudio 2nd hand comps and my old wiring altogether for just about 2k. Then the HU another 800.

Honestly bro, if you're going to start ICE, go for the best you can afford and tutup kedai. If you buy the lowest end one due to budget, you'll get poisoned later on into upgrading and upgrading is a never ending story.

I have the same idea as u guys. Budget 2K for spks first (maybe with cables). Then upgrade HU etc step by side. I had bad experience at an ICE shop in Spore when the guy made a rude remark after the demo when I didn't buy anything on the spot. I guess it's the same here. No money no talk.

I think the next time an installer ask me what's my budget, I should say 20K then maybe get better service. whistling.gif

I think the next time an installer ask me what's my budget, I should say 20K then maybe get better service.  whistling.gif

if ur mindset is already like that, then u will even get more flame after u visit more shop.....say wan 20k end up buy 2k i think some other shop will like wtf and shoot u kao kao.....

No offence, dude, but I dun buy that at all. If an ICE installer wanna size me up and decide whether to serve me or not based on the size of my wallet, then I would say the approach is wrong to start with. I think it's a common thing for a customer to walk into a shop and say he has 2K budget, but when shown a lot of professionalism, honest opinions and options, he may walk away spending 4K and being satisfied, too. And it happened just like that for my last car. Just my 2 sen.

PS: BTW I did PMed u 2x. My opinion is that if u have time to post here and do so much sales talk, surely u have time to check yr PMs, too. Another installer has PMed me btw, and guess who I will be visiting soon? nod.gif

if you like talking and poisoning professionalism, sorry i don't have it. I don't ask my customer to add this and that after done the current setup that doesn't sound ok. Since there's another seller wanted to do your business so badly, i don't mind actually. It's your money and you decide where to go.

Seriously speaking... when I was there last week... it took them 4 hours before they can work on my car... and the 4 hrs of waiting... is well worth it as I manage to get Howie to setup for me... and darn good too. Regarding if he is bz or not... its a miracle that he can still post here... coz he was sooo freaking busy on last weekend man.

I have no qualms recommending my frens to him as he is very pro... and dont simply recommend things which is out of ur budget.

Bro, I'm sure u have your religion and believe in miracles (like how he has time to post here). But not everyone share your same faith. Sorry to say, I would not waste 4 hrs to get my car done (think opportunity-cost).

To be fair, initially I had high hopes on him and shared with him what I wanted to get done. But after receiving his reply "wads yr budget?" and silence after I gave him an answer, I realise it's all about $$$.

No offence, Howie. I wish u well in your business. I'm sure u will find lots of believers out there. smile.gif

Ok, today I'm quite free so I tok-kok-sing-song a bit.

So u think a budget of RM2K (mebbe stretching to 3-4K if I can be convinced) for 2 front + 2 rear spks are "below expectations"? hmm.gif

Sorry to interrupt...

I do missed PM too sometimes. This is because the PM box in LYN, is not like Microsoft Outlook Inbox that will show you how many messages that you have yet to read.

For example, if you have 10 messages and you accidentally start reading message #5 onwards, then you are bound to have ppl complaining that you did not reply them.

Because there will be no sort any notification informing you that you have missed PMs, unless they re-approach you.

So, back to your Q, 2k is enough because I believe different budget have different style of package.

my work experience... when asked, "whats your budget?"

customer's thinking: woah... once talk then money money money... like i print money...

service provider's thinking: i am trying to set a scope on what i can offer you...

there is no point recommending you a Focal Utopia BE No.7 then come down to K2P then come down agian to Access... and in the end... what you wanted was just a DLS basic series... those time are better used to cut a mid baffle, or wirings or dismantling your door panels...

on the not replying you thingy... guess everyone does missed a few mails, appointments, calls, sms before in their life right? wink.gif

heck i missed paid portrait shoot assignment twice... we reschedule... case close...

I read 2x but don't understand what u r trying to say... rclxub.gif

Anyway speaking generally, for sellers out there (not aiming at anyone), don't treat yr customers like idiots. There are some, like me, who have done their homework. I know how much Dynaudio vs Focal vs Polk Audio etc costs and I know 2-3K is enough to get the job done. In this instance, I just wanna know if the installer have my interest at heart and is willing to help me along on the path to achieving my aim. He shouldn't be looking at my wallet.

I could be walking into your shop today with a small wallet and a BLM. But would u know that I also have an Estima sitting at home that I might bring in based on your 1st service performance? Or that my friend drives a Ferrari?

what he's trying to say is when the seller asks for your budget, he's just trying to think what kind of system will suit your budget and no point he starts introducing you the top-of-the-line products and then slowly going lower and lower through discussion but the thing you actually want is an entry-level setup. The time taken to discuss is much better spent on more important things.

im sure you have your points and being a consumer myself i dont disagree. however howie (or anyone whos siding with him) has their points as well and while he may not have handled the situation perfectly, im sure everyone has their misses now and then. I am fairly certain that howie is not someone who aims at people's wallet when during business. HELL, im not even his customer if you didnt knew wink.gif
unless you count buying a scorche car phone holder (worth around ~RM100) from him because im too god damn lazy to find it myself at mid valley or something his customer, then yea i guess i am a customer too.

at the end of the day its just a simple misunderstanding and lets just end it that way (and i am pointing this towards the other side of the fence as well as you guys are only making this worse tongue.gif), REGARDLESS if you goto his shop or not, or if you buy from howie or not.

1st off... the mass understands what i am writing... my english is not that bad...
2nd off... if you have done your homework... then why you dont know the price for utopia, k2p and access and then dls basic? and of course... if you need installations... you need to do wirings, dismantling door panels and etc...

This is why I dislike 'chatting' in forums.

If you have a complaint - voice it out, thats fine. But expect a response trying to justify or clarify why your complaint is or not valid.

Case closed. There's no need to start arguments about who's got bigger balls because it'll do no one any good especially in forums. If you want to compare genitilia sizes do it in person and after that close the case, not have constant bickering in forums because it's irritating for others to read.

To Lowyatsuperman : Howie has explained that he missed your PM. I've seen how many he has to entertain daily and he has already said he missed it. It is now up to you to believe it or not and case closed. Since you obviously do not appreciate his service (or lack of) then it is then now up to you to go elsewhere where you are happier. No point in arguing and causing unecessary grief to everyone here.

To Howie : Where is the value in debating things here? It will eventually lead to pointless arguing like the other joker that was here earlier who was condemning all sellers and praising his CAT5 RCAs. Drop it and next time don't miss PMs because it obviously will make people jump to unecessary conclusions.

To all the others : Drop the topic la. Damn irritating to keep having to read arguments between two different factions all showing their guns but never actually firing them.

And lastly - RM2k to buy speakers limits you to only 2nd hand high end components or brand new mid-range speakers. You cannot buy Dynoaudio's with only RM2k and PolkAudio's top of the range costs way more than that. Search in some local ICE forums like icehifi.com and you might notice that there are 2nd hand Scanspeaks for sale that's almost in that price range. Otherwise go visit a shop and if you like their service buy from them. If you don't, go to another shop and ask again. Everyone has a different experience with different shops so asking online who's good and who's not is pointless.

izso and Quazacolt, thanks for playing peace-maker. izso, your advice on spks is what I already know, but thanks anyway.

To all others, howie and I have more or less stopped. Both of us made our points and I am giving him the benefit of the doubt when he said he missed my PM (although I sent 2x) but nvm lah. Drop it.

No need for anymore heroes to come in and chip in their last 2 sen. Move on to other topics okay? TQ. smile.gif

Ehhh wait wait, I also wanna chip in my 2cents.

You cannot buy Dynoaudio's with only RM2k and PolkAudio's top of the range costs way more than that.

Dyns 242GT available brand new for rm1.5k or so.

My opinion, for 2k should go for used Vifa XT25 and PL 14/17 used WITH custom passives.
If you can stretch to 3k, Scans Discovery with custom passives.

When you free, we can blind test 1 low end branded amp (or anyone wanna volunteer a TRUtech, Genesis, Audison or something) vs MCC431 on the same setup. Loser buy teh tarik.
(Howie, you can help pasang and unpasang ah?)

Ok, now can close case.

Budget very important is like setting the expectation right.
If one have super deep pockets, he or she will say i have no budget. give me the best sounding, best looking most stylo system you can build tongue.gif

i think howie and all installers pray for this type of customers once a life time tongue.gif

p/s anyone has old skool soundstream reference amps that would be interesting to try with smile.gif

i've always doubted acc shops/reg. workshops when they kept saying cannot be fix, and need to change whole bumper.

i kept explaining to them that i am not looking for perfection, just a temporary, or rather a quick patch up, something that simply works - keeping my front bumper firm instead of just dangling there held up by mere wires (another quick patch by the parking lot uncle, he did it for free, i am not complaining about his work, as its either that, or a new bumper smile.gif )

and when i brought it up to howie, he simply drilled 2 holes and screwed my bumper back to the car body. JUST THAT SIMPLE. (though i guess that verifies the rumors going on that he has certain fondness into drilling holes/cutting up peoples' cars rolleyes.gif )

at the end of the day i think its just a matter of wanting to do the job or not. howie did it for me and that made me a happy man.

and best of all, that isnt even the main problem i went to look for him. my car's horn went dead, and need a replacement. even more awesome is that hes open on sundays. and i do have a busy schedule so thats a big plus too.

all in all, thumbs up to howie thumbup.gif

ps: mywifecar is joining another EMMA brows.gif
should've leave some scratches when i was there rolleyes.gif

Howiechoo, tried to PM but your inbox is full .

Need to ask u a few things.

Saw good review from your shop.
Planning to install ICE soon for Exora Bold.

1. Do you have EXORA plug n play double DIN with LCD screen for DVD or TV? Worried im gonna void warranty if need to cut cable.

2. Do you know if changing the speakers or putting amp will void warranty? SA says as long as no wire cut, should be OK.

Hope you can answer my queries, and would like to visit your shop before raya. Do inform me when the schedule is not that tight.

Thanks.

Added on August 10, 2012, 1:02 amJust did my hu and speaker installation at this shop.. Really good and great price.

Hope to see u again bro Howie on sunday..
