You won't be the first one to do that cause I read it before somewhere, but IMHO you will need to consider the nitrate build up from the roting roots and whether your tank can handle it or not, especially if you've got sensitive species in your tank such as CRS.

And make sure you cut deep enough or the plant will just regrow from whats left of itself... tongue.gif

Then meant i no need to put fert? haha shld be not bad.Cause i found out few kind of plant isnt nice.

Fert and nitrates are 2 different things la... But IMO, if your tank doesn't house any sensitive species like CRS, there shouldn't be any problems at all.

Hi, how often do you guys clean up your Eheim. I start using Eheim 2215 for my 2x1 tank about 3 months ago, haven't do any clean up and found there are many algae ay yhe outflow tube as well as the entire green tube.

What shall I do to clean them up? Please give your advise, I'm newbie in planted tank... icon_question.gif

I also just got my eheim 2213 last year, been using for 6 months only until now.

The algae on the outflow tube is Black Brush Algae, you can either remove it manually, picking them out clump by clump or just take out the tube and put some bleach on it and leave it for a few minutes, they should come off easy by then.

For the rest of the green tube, IME its actually not algae, its just deposits of debris, one way is to run a fishing string along the inside of the tube, tie a cloth to one end and put the cloth through the green tube, it'll be clear after a few tries. But its very time consuming this way, the other way is to buy a brush for this purpose which I found once being sold in The Pet Family in Klang, cost only RM8 and it made mine look like new... thumbup.gif

Inconsistent Co2 levels, high flow area will generally have them...

I can't say, cause I open up a few times to add in and change the filter media since I bought it. Generally I try to do it at 3 months interval.

But its best if you tailor it according to the biological load of your tank. My advice to you is just open and clean it after 3 months and assess the amount of gunk in it and you'll roughly know how long it can last. For your 2 ft, 2215 is big, so it should last longer then my 2213.

another thing is that I think my eheim got always got air inside. because once a while, some air is blown out. When i tap the filter body, more air is blown out. Then ok. but it happen again after 1-2 days.

Did you prime it properly??? Is it silent enough that you need to put your ear near it to know its running???

You got put any inline diffuser, co2 reactor over the inlet or intake pipe or any surface skimmer???

it is very silent most of the time, but suddenly got 1 sound like air flowing in pipe, then silent again for long time.

when i tap the side of the filter to softly rock it, then got bubble some out.

no any connection at inlet. could it be excessive O2 or CO2 in the tank trap in the filter media?

Get a net... Corner them... Hunt them down...

Once I bought 3 rummy nose tetra, I put it in my aquarium and the next day only 1 was left... Not even corpses left, and I'm sure they did not jump out. Another time, I went back for holiday. Came back to see my albino cory missing, only had it for 2 weeks prior. Only see the scales stuck to the filter. And another time, saw the ghost with their super long pincer grab one of my neon tetras and started eating its tail.

The horror... shocking.gif grumble.gif

All these happened when I put in 2 dozen ghost shrimps thinking they will help me control my algae problem which they didn't...

Is the inlet clogged up??? Got put any sponge or netting at the inlet??? You keep shrimps???

Using glass co2 diffuser??? You put it too near the inlet???

What about your double taps, got open full or you keep it half closed???

I have a 2213, 2215 and 2217. I only clean them between 6-12 months or when the flow slows down tongue.gif

But then again, my tanks are pretty established and mostly running low maintenance setups smile.gif So less for me to worry.

I clean more often cause I hear of cases where dirty filter causes algae, and to me, cleaning a filter is way way more easier then dealing with algae. I'd clean my filter anytime bruce.gif , then to ever deal with algae problems ever again... grumble.gif

wanna ask about tank:
an LFS quoted me RM65 for a 45cm (1 1/2 footer) ADA-like aquarium tank
it's a sharp-end tank (not curved) and from the side it looks greenish
is that a reasonable price?
anybody can suggest where i can get cheaper?

i put mosquito net at inlet to prevent my RCS from sucking into the filter. Sometimes the net is covered by floating riccia.

Yes, using glass co2 diffuser and it is very close to inlet. Got problem with that setup? hmm.gif

the both inlet and outlet double taps are fully open.
