2-3 people already downloaded that and they claim its still had problem like previous 201012.. i think u should start with 201009 release and just do apt-get upgrade and apt-get dist-upgrade from it. it works for me smile.gif

I don't have any comments about 10.10 as I am not using it but most reviews on Julia says that it is most stable compare to it's parent, Maverick. Deidomeido has announced that Julia is best distro of 2010, the link I already posted into here few pages back. I already tried Julia and found it great, very friendly for newbies.

With regards to the slow boot, are you talking about Ubuntu or LMDE?
If it's Ubuntu, maybe you should reprofile ureadahead. I heard it needs occasional reprofiling.

Interesting. Too bad Mint only seems to release dvd size iso files for their Gnome desktops.
I installed LMDE on a friend's computer yesterday. Have to say it's impressive. Full Gnome desktop + Compiz and it only uses a bit more than 100mb of ram (i686). That's quite close to the minimal Debian and Arch installs after adding Gnome and Compiz.

I probably won't install it on my own systems (I prefer building my installs from the ground-up), but I'll definitely recommend it to former Ubuntu users who want a more stable/semi-rolling setup.

Strange how Liquorix has been on 2.6.36-2 for a while now (at least one week, maybe more) ... I remember the days when Damentz released a new kernel image every 2 days laugh.gif

P.S
Why are the X'mas emoticons still here? ... are we preparing for Dec 2011? O_o

Seriously I don't see any significant improvements between this liquorix and the previous kernel, any benchmarks can we refer to?

@Powerwoot.
What was your previous kernel? LMDE uses the Testing kernel, currently frozen at 2.6.32, if I'm not mistaken.
TBH, the 'vanilla' 2.6.32 kernel is a very good one.

Without getting too technical;
You'll only probably see benefits with Liquorix if you run a lot of apps that require a low-latency. Liquorix is known to be a good replacement for Real-Time kernels (think Ubuntu Studio or Studio 64 kernels).

With regards to regular desktop performance, the main difference is that with Liquorix, the order of services run is a bit different. Also, Liquurix seems to run more services/tasks (on boot) concurrently, while Debian's "vanilla" kernel tends to complete large tasks in batches, which in turn causes some other services to take a long time to complete (if you ever ran wicd, you'll know what I'm talking about).

____________________________________________________________________

Also, with Liquorix and other 2.6.36 kernels, you can do this
http://techpatterns.com/forums/about1687.html

Note: Only do it this you understand what cgrouping is all about and know the difference between userspace and kernelspace. Also, if you do it, remember to pass the argument "noautogroup" to your Liquorix kernel in order prevent it from autogrouping tasks for you (which it does by default thanks to the kernelspace solution from Mike Galbraith that's been incorporated). I take no responsibility if you break your system.

Previous kernel was 2.6.32-5, that is why I am asking about the significant improvements over the vanilla. Anyway, I am just want to test out the liquorix which doesn't necessary mean I want to make it permanently running. Since it is running smoothly with my LMDE without any problem, I'll try it until the Stable release reach our shore.

I edited the second part of my post, so you might want to read it again.

Also, is there ever going to be a "Stable" release of LMDE?
It's based on Debian Testing, so labeling it as Stable would seem a bit oxymoronic, unless they plan to freeze it at Squeeze.

Yes, it's only the labeling. Most of you should already know that even Debian Unstable is more stable than 90% of distros out there. Stability is the Debian motto.

hmm.. many things to be read through. In fact I am still reading from the link given by axxer just now. The arguments between damentz with others, am amused but find it informative.

About LMDE stable, I don't know what in the head of Mint's developer. They've done so many things and make it better. LMDE Stable? why not.
