I'm not good in antenna design, wait for piju to come in and explain all about the feedline and the impedance and on how you should feed your radio. Our radios are normally feed by a 50Ohm coax feedline, so if you're using a 75Ohm feedline for transmitting, you'll have a mismatch and your power going out will get lost. Receiving should be okay though.

Read more about the feedline here:

http://www.arrl.org/feed-lines
http://www.jpole-antenna.com/2013/01/12/wh...for-my-antenna/
*
I read somewhere they said that 1:1.5 unun could solve the 50 Ohm if the transmitter is to design on 50 Ohm.
Is 1:1.5 unun a Balun?

I still have a lot of astro RG6 at home and do not want to waste them smile.gif , maybe it is time to research on doing EE calculation on doing 1:1.5 Unun, invest a SWR meter smile.gif

MARES is organizing a National Field Day at Taman Tasik Cempaka, Bandar Baru Bangi, on 15-16 Sept 2014. Let's come together and to 'ceria-ceria kan' the event. smile.gif

For those who want 9M's autographs/referal to complete the AA form, can come and meet them in person. 9M, especially the 2 characters (9M2xx) people are very humble
and can explain ALMOST anything about Amateur Radio. Lots to learn from them.

It is 24 hours event starting from 'after office hour' to the next day. Anyone who have time can come and learn from the experts. Lots of 'cerita' to be told.... smile.gif

http://www.mares.org.my

See you there.
Thank you.

To wiraone

No problem boss, there will be a next time. On the field day, I will not be available on that date, balik kampung, cousin getting married smile.gif

On the homebrew antenna, be careful with your SWR, transmitting using handy is okay since you're transmitting on low power. Some transceiver will change the transmit power when it sense a high SWR (2:1) to protect the final.

No problem.. Congratulation to your cousin. smile.gif

Yes, you are right. high SWR antenna is 'unhealthy'. But, how high is to be considered as bad? Some say, SWR 2.5:1 is the upper limit. Yeah, if you are playing with 20W/50W/100W/1kW/10kW is a different story, because who owns that kind of powerful transmitter, will know the correct antenna system.

1W/5W can be considered as a 'toy, eventhough 5W can travels half around the world. smile.gif.. I have another temporary 5/8 telescopic, mounted on hombrew base/stand and put it "in" attic. The SWR for this antennna system is arround 1.2:1 at best, and yes, it travels further, 1W is enough to reach reach repeaters 50-60km away from my base, and stiil get R5.

Ok, see you later, on air or online. smile.gif

Saya baru take intrest on HAM Radio. Sebelum ni duk jenguk2 SDR je.
Setakat ni baru membaca2 guideline dan forum2/blogs.

I understand that license application perlukan 2 orang class A. Wondering kalau ada siapa2 di Cyberjaya atau berdekatan boleh mohon tunjuk ajar ataupun ada class/seminar tentang Amateur radio.

Kalau frequency band tu macam mana nak tahu orang2 converse kat mana? Frequency dia ada channel allocations untuk scan? Kalau handheld HAM boleh pick up jugak tak atau cuma yang ada external antenna boleh pick up conversations?
[Ah, I see that there are Simplex VHF frequency and channel allocation plans and according to area, there are channel allocations]

Does Cyberjaya have any repeaters? How do you guys listen as SWL if there is no repeater around?

Last question: Do I need an AA License to carry my handheld that can tune in to the Amateur band?

There will be another test for this year, no idea when it will be, probably Nov or Dec.

As what posted by Bahtiar, there will be a field day this coming Tuesday at Bangi, not that far from Cyberjaya. Feel free to drop by and ask questions there. There will be 9M2 with three alphabets that are well versed with ham radio too, so, don't feel that you're shortchanged by them there smile.gif

On simplex or channel allocation, there isn't any that is specific by area. Usually the hams around the area will choose a simplex channel that will no interfere with others and make it their common channel for that particular area.

For ham radio, repeaters usually located at higher altitude, Cyberjaya tak dak bukit nor gunung, so, most of the repeaters are located at Genting. Download Repeater. My app for Android, it will help you finding the nearest repeater(s) to your current location.

SWL usually listen to shortwave, and not VHF/UHF smile.gif If you would like to listen to QSO on VHF/UHF, just get yourself that SDR dongle with a good receiving antenna and you'll find many interesting frequencies out there that you could monitor and not only on ham radio freq. range.

You need AA to carry any transceiver, but heck, no enforcement done by the authorities, so nobody cares if you've AA or not smile.gif

Unfortunately I have exams next week so I think my best bet is to join the class I saw in FB(SK Setiawangsa on 20/9) if they announce for walk-in availability.

Thank you for all the answers smile.gif
Hope I could join as soon I get my license and AA.

(I scared kena confiscate if I carry without AA)

Referal from 9M (class A)

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?...bile.myrepeater

Bwa handy tanpa lesen.
Lesen diperlukan untuk TX (transmit). Jadi kalau bawa handy tanpa TX, mungkin tiada masalah.

Oooooo I see. Thank you for the information.

syaaban.abdhamid@cmc.gov.my

Nama
IIC
Alamat
Telepon
Email

Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission,
Aras 1, Prima 1
Jalan Teknokrat 5
63000 Cyberjaya
Selangor.

Terima kasih.

This is new to me, on the monthly online test thingy. Do update it here on your progress amin, the last time they had few tests, I thought they were just for few occasions as trial-run. If they've this as regular monthly test, that will be a good news to us since we do not need to wait for the biyearly exams. It took ages to wait for the exam and to get the result too before.

It is not 'online' RAE test. You still need to go to the MCMC to sit the test, in their computer lab. The quota is 20 seats.

This is a very good write up how to get AA. I followed most of the steps on that page. smile.gif
http://9w2edu.blogspot.com/2012/08/9w2edu-...a-aparatus.html

Actually, the Guide's documents from SKMM are very good. Read it and some of answers are in the documents smile.gif If you are following Amateur Radio club/society, it will much easier to undertand how to get the AA.

Wow, now this thread is hot back again.

I also been wanting to get AA for years and got it last June, just do it, just study the pass year Q&A and you guys can pass very easy for Class B AA

Anyway, if anyone here wanted to get their AA form signed by 9M-ers, some forumers here are very willing to help, they are nice guys....

Will do! Probably will try to request for the next nearest possible exam. I've seen the past questions and it seemed straight forward. lol
Probably will start to request for signatures for the AA after I successfully get a seat for an exam.
