Hi, Salam contact kenal dan salam sejahtera.

I am new in this hobby. smile.gif Currently, I only have a 5w dual band China made handheld transceiver and 4 antennas. Most of the time I am monitoring/listening on several repeates, such as 9M4RBC, 9M4RNS, 9M4RZS, 9M2RKK, 9M2RKL,

Usually I training my TX or QSO on silent/quiet repeaters such as 9M2RKK and 9M2RKL which located very near to my saltmine/office, during lunch (around 1300) time or while waiting for bus after office hour (around 1800).

QRA: 9W2GNU, Handle Operator: Bahathir @ Bakhtiar

Hi, welcome to the thread and to the hobby. May I know what do you mean by training? Hopefully not by triggering the repeaters but w/o giving your callsign, which I believe many have done this. If you want to meet someone on air, for 9M2RKL, there always someone there in the morning around 7-8:30am and probably in the evening to around 5pm. For 9M2RKK, I've no idea what the best time to find people on it .. I know 9M2WJ is now back on air and sometime he calls up during the lunch hour. For me, I rarely go on air unless I'm driving. My home setup has been take over for APRS activities, no more phone/voice conversation from home.
*
As I said in my post, I am training my QSO. and yes with my callsign. I got reply from 9W2TJK on 9M2RKK, 9W2GRY and 9W2AA on 9M4RKL (around 1000-1100). Yes, it is very rare to get reply on these repeaters. And yes, there were some 'empty' TXs, and I tried to QSO wtth... and most of the time.. "silence"....

Haha, okay, when you're on conversation on the air .. it is no longer training. Why the need for training anyway when you're already on the air smile.gif Just follow the norm, ID with you callsign on every transmissions (Malaysian style).
*
smile.gif ... It is just like driving/riding vehicle. Actually, I am quite a shy person and not talking much. I just want to make sure, my voice can be heard properly. At the same time, I also want to know the limit of my transceiver, so I can use a proper antenna at the proper time and place. Most of time, I ask for the QRK (audio quality check) to make sure everything is in proper. Yeah, I only have handheld tranceiver, and need to get most from it.

I think we have to train, using proper QSOing based on the SKMM Guidlines For some people it is a simple task, but for me, it is quite difficult, so need to training lah. smile.gif BTW, I self-studied RAE 3 months ago, took the RAE and pass 2 monts ago, and got AA 1 months ago. smile.gif I did lots of listening before I got AA, and it is still some differences between listening and talking/transmitting.

I started involve in a Amatuer Radio association, called MARES (http://www.mares.org.my)/. which fits me well.. "Talk Less. More Action", or "Talk only when needed", which IMHO, the proper or the best way of using the Amatuer Radio.

Nice to meet you, and hope we can QSO sometime in future. smile.gif

I think you are an 'otai" already and pretty sure you do some DXing on HF. smile.gif But, till then, I use what I have, and capabilities.

Thank you.

Updates:
Yes, my wish came true. smile.gif I QSOed with wiraone yesterday around 1800 on 9M4RKL, the UHF repeater. I got R5 (crystal clear) audio from wiraone from his mobile rig.

I had to QRT and clear from frequency because the bus came. I have so many things to say, just like talking to old friends. smile.gif

Hope we can QSO again.

Bluetooth link to the rig. Nice setup. smile.gif Very clean audio on 9M4RKL I was using IEMs/earphones tp isolates traffic (pass by cars, lorries,.. ) noises.

9M2RKK:
How was my audio on 0M2RKK? I got your's R1 or just the carrier.

Anyway, thank you for the short QSO, and I put your callsign in my calls log. smile.gif

MARES is organizing a National Field Day at Taman Tasik Cempaka, Bandar Baru Bangi, on 15-16 Sept 2014. Let's come together and to 'ceria-ceria kan' the event. smile.gif

For those who want 9M's autographs/referal to complete the AA form, can come and meet them in person. 9M, especially the 2 characters (9M2xx) people are very humble
and can explain ALMOST anything about Amateur Radio. Lots to learn from them.

It is 24 hours event starting from 'after office hour' to the next day. Anyone who have time can come and learn from the experts. Lots of 'cerita' to be told.... smile.gif

http://www.mares.org.my

See you there.
Thank you.

To wiraone

No problem boss, there will be a next time. On the field day, I will not be available on that date, balik kampung, cousin getting married smile.gif

On the homebrew antenna, be careful with your SWR, transmitting using handy is okay since you're transmitting on low power. Some transceiver will change the transmit power when it sense a high SWR (2:1) to protect the final.
*
No problem.. Congratulation to your cousin. smile.gif

Yes, you are right. high SWR antenna is 'unhealthy'. But, how high is to be considered as bad? Some say, SWR 2.5:1 is the upper limit. Yeah, if you are playing with 20W/50W/100W/1kW/10kW is a different story, because who owns that kind of powerful transmitter, will know the correct antenna system.

1W/5W can be considered as a 'toy, eventhough 5W can travels half around the world. smile.gif.. I have another temporary 5/8 telescopic, mounted on hombrew base/stand and put it "in" attic. The SWR for this antennna system is arround 1.2:1 at best, and yes, it travels further, 1W is enough to reach reach repeaters 50-60km away from my base, and stiil get R5.

Ok, see you later, on air or online. smile.gif

QUOTE(aminpro @ Sep 12 2014, 06:57 PM)
Salam sifu2

Saya baru take intrest on HAM Radio. Sebelum ni duk jenguk2 SDR je.
Setakat ni baru membaca2 guideline dan forum2/blogs.

I understand that license application perlukan 2 orang class A. Wondering kalau ada siapa2 di Cyberjaya atau berdekatan boleh mohon tunjuk ajar ataupun ada class/seminar tentang Amateur radio.

Kalau frequency band tu macam mana nak tahu orang2 converse kat mana? Frequency dia ada channel allocations untuk scan? Kalau handheld HAM boleh pick up jugak tak atau cuma yang ada external antenna boleh pick up conversations?
[Ah, I see that there are Simplex VHF frequency and channel allocation plans and according to area, there are channel allocations]

Does Cyberjaya have any repeaters? How do you guys listen as SWL if there is no repeater around?

Last question: Do I need an AA License to carry my handheld that can tune in to the Amateur band?
notworthy.gif
*
Referal from 9M (class A)

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?...bile.myrepeater

Bwa handy tanpa lesen.
Lesen diperlukan untuk TX (transmit). Jadi kalau bawa handy tanpa TX, mungkin tiada masalah.

syaaban.abdhamid@cmc.gov.my

Nama
IIC
Alamat
Telepon
Email

Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission,
Aras 1, Prima 1
Jalan Teknokrat 5
63000 Cyberjaya
Selangor.

Terima kasih.

It is not 'online' RAE test. You still need to go to the MCMC to sit the test, in their computer lab. The quota is 20 seats.

This is a very good write up how to get AA. I followed most of the steps on that page. smile.gif
http://9w2edu.blogspot.com/2012/08/9w2edu-...a-aparatus.html

Actually, the Guide's documents from SKMM are very good. Read it and some of answers are in the documents smile.gif If you are following Amateur Radio club/society, it will much easier to undertand how to get the AA.

Ok, here is my only 'rig' to practice my Amateur Radio hobby.

1) Baofeng A52, Dual band tranceiver VHF/UHF
2) Modified headset PTT, to be used with my IEMs/earphones collections
3) Homebrew 1/4 wave antenna using ASTRO 75ohm coax wire. SWR 2.4:1 on VHF and UHF bands.
4) The antnna connected to F connect to femal SMA adapter.

Most of the time, TX on 1W to repeaters, 9M2RKL, 9M4RBC, 9M4RZS, 9M4RGH, with R4-R5, from my saltmine (Bandar Sri Damansara) or base (Kajang).

@aminpro
1) How about other frequency/repeaters?
2) Make a video showing the units side by side receiveing the same frequency.
3) Most probably, the RX module is goind bad. or, the connector's pin is not contact to the anttena correctly.
4) Or, it might be glitch in the setiing's image. If tou have the data cable, you can refresh/reload the 'clean' image to the unit. I already enccountered with this problem, after tweeking too many things in the settings. Reload the fresh/clean settings, and the problem settled.

PRADAS. Yeah, nice channel if you want to learn how to talk/QSO. If you can access 9M4RBC, especailly during very late night "0000-0300), if you lucky, you might hear this 2,3 person QSOs, talking about technologies and other usefuk knowledge. 9W2ASF, 9W2USA, 9W2SBD. There also some 9W and 9M talking about knowledge, but on 2m/70cm, but, not that easy.

I was told, there was a golden era in Amateur Radio ini Malaysia, where the knowledge of technology is being conveyed via the radio on 2m band, the silent key 9M2GL. Now most them 'run away' to HF, and leave 'what we ussualy heard' in 2m band. For those to have AA and knowledge even a small things, let's share among us. I met/eyeball with a very good 9M otai's, and there are lots of thing to be learnt, beside pushing the PTT.

Here is the close up of the antenna connector and adapter.
Attached Image

I use 2 metal washer to distribute the stress equally to the transceiver's body.

Thank you.

Rattling sound... smile.gif .. Wow, that's new to me. sure something is broken inside the unit.

PRADAS is on VHF 142.800 MHz. not UHF, or I missed something?
Here are the most frequently used repeaters.

(RX only) in MHz
9M4RBC 147.750
9M4RZS 147.650
9M2RKL 439.600 (UHF)

These repeaters are active during rush hours, or during weekly 'check net'.

Programming cable is expensive? I bought it with my radio set, about MYR 24. You can get less if you shopping around on the net.

Thank you.

2m band also the Amateur Radio band. 9M/9W otai-otai also need to visit 2m band, time to time. Share your knowledge, lets the newbies like me, learn something beneficial.

Here is the clip from MHI episode 187, 23rd September 2014, covering National Field Day 2014, at Taman Tasik Cempaka, Bandar Baru Bangi.

I downloaded the clip from tonton.com.my.

Enjoy.

Yes, you are right. The TIMING. Yes, when we are around with family, the family is more important than our hobby. smile.gif Yeah, the TIMING, Since th 2m band is 'alive' during rush hour, so lets start the conversation with the more beneficial topics. Yes, we cannot assume everybody able to talk about technical, but, still efforts are needed to 'enhanced' and share our knowledge. Yes, 9M2AU told me, that during the golden era, he always QSOs with 9M2GL for years, on 9M2RUK repater, while commuting in his jalopy/car.

Nowdays, I frequently hears some good QSOs on 9M4RBC and 9M4RZS, especially durng late night. But, how many people are monitoring that time? smile.gif

Good luck, if you able to find a suitable adpater for MCX connector at Jalan Pasar. smile.gif

I have 2 RTL-SDR dongle, and use SMA-M to MCX-F straight adapter. Since I only have Boafeng walkie talkie, my main connecter is SMA, and I have several adapters to use with other type of connectors, such as, F connect (ASTRO cable), UHF (SO239/PL259) and N connector (SL16), RP-SMA,...

Yes, as wirwaone advice, cut the stock antenna cable and solder it to your own choice of connector. smile.gif
