This discussion is going no where...

Guitar weight - some like it, some don't but don't mind getting used to it, some likes it for the little extra sustain, some hate it etc. In the end it boils down to preference, nuff said.

But the discussion here is not about preference. Someone liking a heavier guitar doesn't change the fact that heavy guitars are heavy and uncomfortable.

Someone prefering heavy guitars are fine but let's not make it sound like those who do not prefer it are wussies or weak.

And this discussion won't change that fact either.

Nobody's making it sound like a wussy or weak here, dude. laugh.gif Unless it's coming from Blacktrix.

the LP is heavIER than normal gats... but that does not neccessary make it heavy.
its preferential whether or not to regard it as heavy...
to a weighlifter, 60kgs may not be heavy at all...but its different with a weak fella...
the first time i pickedup an electric guitaar i tot it was pretty heavy, probably because i was used to playing on a classical gat...
no problem afterwards....

comfort lvls vary with the user.... as they say... ure most comfortable when ure used to it smile.gif

We can tell whether one guitar is heavy or not by comparing it with others. I think we can safely say that the average weight that is common to guitar players should be in the 2kg+- range, which is the weight of a Strat. Since we can safely say that the strat and it spin offs are the most played guitar in the world, guitars heavier than the strat will easily be perceive as heavy to the average guitar player.

As for the weightlifter analogy, it's a bad one cause they trained for that but last time I check, playing the guitar is not lifting weights.

Sure at the end of the day, some people are willing to live with the weight, so more power to them. But doesn't change the fact that LPs are just heavy and not the most comfortable guitar to play for long hours.

im just trying to point out that when something is heavier, its not neccessary heavy
well like i said... comfort varies with the users....
heck this discussion aint going nowhere and its pointless anyway... not like ppl are going to get more information on cheap guitars and amps from knowing the weight of the gats...lol

And what you've said doesn't change the fact that your discussion is going no where.

And you must be very ignorant not to get his weightlifter example, what he meant was a weightlifter who has gotten used to a 60kg barbell would not find a problem with it while someone who isn't will probably not. Well put it this way, a tuba player would have gotten used to the weight of a tuba but if I ask you to carry one while marching, you would have problems because you're not used to the weight.

Sure it is getting no where but it keeps getting brought up again and again. Let's not start insulting each other intelligence cause it will get really ugly.

But you see, it is a bad analogy because weightlifter train to carry heavy stuff. Guitars player do not. He might have meant if your way though he didn't choose the most effective way to put it. On the other hand, your analogy works better.

Weight is weight, it can be considered heavy when compared to others.

Saying that getting used to it makes it un-heavy is like saying getting used to a fast car makes it un-fast, now that is a good analogy.

ps-You guys need to loosen up, it seems that no one ever realized I am quite sarcastic and tongue in cheek with my arguments. You guys are taking it way to seriously sometimes.

I think DarrenCW is intimidated of the weight of the Les Paul because of what he's heard about it. But unless he actually tries it, it's not for us to determine if it's REALLY heavy or not heavy at all.....

What I want to say is that if you can live with a little weight to get the tone that you want to get.... then yes.... go get it.... It'll be worth it.
But if the weight is REALLY too much to bear, then he should consider other alternatives.

well, for me, like previously mentioned, my '74 SG is easily heavier than my epi LP which on the scale says about 4kg.
but my SG is more comfortable due to the body contours.
but its still heavy, especially on a lazy day that you just want to relax on your bed and mess around on the guitar.
the LP tho with its thick body etc is not a good lazy lie down in bed kinda guitar tongue.gif

this "LP is super insane heavy that its uncomfortable" topic is blown out of proportion. LP is heavier than usual guitars but does not make it THAT heavy and THAT uncomfortable. and no, wasnt my intention to make whoever sound weak(or a wussy). just because its uncomfortable for you doesnt make it uncomfortable for everyone else. like i said, its preference. remember, i play a strat too.

yea, i dont have to pick up my bandmates for gigs, and kuching's jam aint as bad as KL's.but i guess if u're tired then u're tired. ive played in kl too u know. once i know im gona get on stage, i get excited and pumped up the entire day. of course i'll just be stuck in bed the next day. i know what u mean by spending the entire day just for one gig. hey, my former band has 7 freakin bandmates and theres always alot of problems. our soundcheck can take over 3 hours. YES 3 HOURS!!!!

ok i better stop...have no idea where this discussion is heading to.

I agree, a contour body makes a world of difference, in terms of comfort + how the player is fusionning with the guitar's body.
For instance, the time I went in a shop to buy my first guitar, i tried many cheap strats with a "plank" body... I didn't know they were "uncomfortable" but when I picked up the jap fender strat, Wooow, Sexy ! How'u doin' ? I knew i was gonna buy THAT guitar as soon as I put it on my lap. It felt so good to play it compared to the others !

(above posts are SO SO SO interesting, they totally worth the effort of writing them down + fighting for them...) (after the GAS physical problem, now comes the GAL psychological issue : "Get A Life")

Did i provoked an arguement between everyone or i'm just sensitive?

Yes,most of you think that i'm a noob/beginner.Its for me to know and for you to find out.But i think there's no point to argue over such small matter.Everyone here is a musician and we know how does every musician differs from others.Everyone has different preferences for guitars, amps, tones, settings etc etc.Capisce?

So lets do some self reflection on our own attitude and behaviour when positng comments and remarks here? Our ego's beat our brains at times. Do some thinking whether it will be misunderstood as flame? Just my 2 cents. Peace with everyone! thumbup.gif notworthy.gif
