Been using a42ja for almost a month. Here's my short review.
Good: - great gaming performance. play any game in medium high setting smoothly. (including GTA4 and Crysis) - good price - ok design. It looks better in real life compared to what you see in picture. Very business-like notebook. - great keyboard. I like the layout and design. - heat drop fast to idle temperature after exit gaming. Bad: - very soft speaker. Some might claim the sound is soft but the sound quality is good. Well, its doesn't matter. - only 1 mic or audio jack - no dedicated volume up down button. ( I hate the Fn combo thing to change volume) Hrmp: - The screen quality is mediocre (worst than dell screen but better than acer) - heat dispenser is at the left side. Alot of wind and heat generate from it when gaming. Kinda feel like the hand dryer in public toilet. - 5730 heat is significant lower than i7-740m heat by 10-15 celcius be it when idle or gaming. - The heat is usually between 70-80 celcuis while gaming. I didn't use any notebook cooler. The max heat i encountered so far is 91 celcuis for i7-740m and 80 celcuis for ati 5730. Verdict: A very good buy for a 14inch gaming laptop. Another viable alternative right now is xps 15 or xps 16. I didn't choose Dell because the delivery time is too long, and 15inch is not so portable. However Xps series is a premium entertainment notebook while Asus A series is more ergonomics. Choose what is suitable for you. |

Hi everyone,
New user for A42JC here. Bought mine 4 days ago.. still in testing stage. Just realized that for this new laptop, the usb ports are not very convenient. It has 3 usb ports, one on the right, two on the left. the two are placed so close to each other that it's impossible to use both ports at the same time (if needed). Also, the audio jack is very close to the usb ports as well. >< At first I thought that the audio-in jack is missing, then when I read the description, it says that the audio-out n audio-in is the same one. O.O And what if I am video-calling and need to plug in two jacks (for headphone n mic at the same time)? @@ I am also looking for the internal microphone, and I still can't find it Help~~ |

Sorry guys for late reply. I write a short but not complete review about this laptop (base of my experience)
Model: U41JF Pro: - i5 proc - Switchable grahics (GF 425M/Intel HD) - Thanks for Power4Gear Hybrid software, u can change between cards by hotkeys. - HDMI and VGA port attached. - 8 cells battery. Cons: - 3 USB ports. - USB 2.0 - No E-sata port. - Bloatware preinstalled (This in my opinion only, I removed most of the software Battery Usage - I managed to get 5 hours for just browsing web with some Youtube videos. At this time I'm using 'Quiet Office' mode. - Manage to play 2 movies. Each movie about 1.5 hour. (avi file via 'Quiet Entertainment' mode) Other test - Game tested so far, Medal of Honor. The game itself is playable with highest resolution and lowest setting. - Work great with Autocad. Installed 2009 version. I will add later once I do other test. QUOTE(mekboyz @ Dec 10 2010, 07:39 PM) How about a42ja users? Do you guys have this octoshape streaming services? Seriously dunno where it came from. Not malware i scanned already. A42J series do have crap speakers just like k40AB, but I have a fix.
Open up Windows Control Panel > Sound > Speaker properties > Equalizer. Set the 2k value to its lowest, and higher frequency to higher and lower to slightly higher except for two lowest bar like so: If any of you guys need a review of A42JE-VX244 just tell me. Since there is a review of A42J series before, I don't think I need to do it anyway. |

I just reformatted everything. I'm fussy with bloatwares.
Now installing all my softwares. Haven't got the time to test it thoroughly. But I saw the battery stating "3 Hours left" when I'm on battery and on "High performance" mode. Never tried the other modes. The specs are: i5-460m Nvidia GT425M Basically there is only one specs for this model. I did ask the SA, he told me he never saw any other colour besides dark grey. Harddisk temperature in A42JE is ridiculous, reaching 51C after gaming, that hotter than CPU! How you guys A42 series harddisk temperature? Monitored using HWMonitor, I don't know whether it wrong or not
